Softest ball recommendations

NonCompetitive1

Recommended Posts

Looking for a ball that feels softest at impact. I hit my 5 iron 170 (stock maybe 160, haven't though to measure) with a good strike, but it stays low - I use a ladies shaft and a split grip to protect my arm and I tend to set up to hit a small fade on purpose - I wanted to learn to shape the ball so only carried 5i, pw and putter last few rounds. I had a cheap driver delivered today Yonez ladies shaft that had good reviews. I had been playing a regular/men's Titleist Pro v1x open edition as I liked the look of the balls. So yeah, something good with a ladies shaft hitting this kind of distance with pro v1x . I hate anything that feels hard, softer the better and more effortless to hit. Thanks

Wilson Staff DX2 Soft. You may loose a few yards, but it’s still a decent quality ball if you want something that’s super soft.

It used to be my ball for hickory golf, before I moved on.

Edit to add: but it may not be the best ball if you are looking to shape the ball as this is a very low spinning ball. Most of the super soft balls will not spin much so they’ll be harder to shape.

I ordered one box of Wilson Staff DX2 Soft's. They arrive today. If those aren't much better than the Pro v1x's I'll order some of the other recommendations for comparison.

Pro v1x (bench mark) - quite soft, ok roll, ok spin/stop, good workability, cover harder than I'd like it to be, good scoring, good short game.

Wilson Staff DX2 Soft - soft, higher flight, stops less easily, longer roll on approach shots, good putting, ok short game, soft cover.

Srixen Soft Feel -

Callaway Supersoft -

Wilson Due -

Wilson 50 Elite Soft -

Edit -- the DX2 soft's just turned up now. They are claiming to be the world's softest distance ball 29 compression. I'll play soon and get back here with a review if anyone shows interest.

Keep in mind soft feel doesnt mean soft cover. Most soft balls offer very low spin around the greens. You will also lose ball speed. You might hit your irons farther however, and they will probably fly higher with less spin. Very different playing characteristics. Experiment, use what works best for you.

Wilson dx2 - felt ok - good in fact. Definitely a softer and more effortless ball to hit than pro v1x. The driver went ok, considering I didn't hit a ball on the range I hit one about 210 uphill into wind first tee which is decent for me. Next hole I hit a 220 drive with a tail wind and I hit a faded 200 drives off the O.B on two other holes. Another hole I skied the driver 100 yards but that's me not the ball haha. Looks like a very good ball for driver then and flies high and seems accurate enough. I haven't perfectly the tee height for the driver either, I could gain more distance if I teed the ball lower...possibly..(or possibly not!)

In terms of 5 iron, ball flight was lower than pro v1x on this day. I found the wedge hard to hit too, whether that's me or the ball I'm not sure however. It did seem harder to hit off the ground than the pro v1x for me anyway.

Short game reasonable, felt a very good ball for putting albeit incredibly soft so had to hit it harder than normal. I played 9 holes and made 3 putts so I can't complain about that. I just need to find more consistency with the 5 iron and wedge with the ball. I ended up just off the fringe in the rough twice about 20 yards from the hole and got up and down using a 5 iron chip. It definitely seems a good ball around the greens but that's just based on 9 holes.

When I run out of these balls I may review the rest to compare - for myself and another else that cares.!

Softest ball - Wilson Duo Soft

Softest ball that I actually like - Callaway Supersoft (longer than the Wilson for me)

Softest ball that will have spin around greens - Wilson Duo Professional

Softest Ball that has your quality spin - Callaway Chrome Soft

Honestly... the ProV1x is a brick compared to all of these and is one of the firmest balls on the market as far as tour balls (high spin) goes.

If you want something that will perform close to that ProV1x, but is soft, it’s the Callaway Chrome Sof by a mile.

An update. This ball is playing well when I get out. My driver is still going 210-220, which I'm ok with. The main thing for me is staying accurate. I want to try to gain weight, or at least strength. Although I do hear that strength and weight aren't a sure indicator of driving distance. It's more a natural gift. But I'll still try to gain distance. The great thing about the Wilson Staff DX2 ball is the fact it's a complete monster around the greens and on the putting surface. My short game was horrible with the Pro V1x, but with the Wilson it's amazing.

In terms of all the reviews here I appreciate the comments and when I have the time I'll research each individual ball thoroughly out of curiosity to if there is a softer feeling ball than the DX2 and whether any have better reviews on and around the putting surface. The thread has been an eye opener at least, shown me that the ball I had been using was completely the wrong ball for my game. The good thing is I have everything about right now. The next thing might be shoes that I look into as I don't know how much of a factor they are yet.

I believe you, I'll look into it. Thanks. You shouldn't have been so helpful. I can see it. This should be interesting.

Intersted by this. You ever tried Wilson DX2 or Cally supersoft?

Hey I won't say anymore. All I'm going to say is that Snell might be a better ball, but I'm not yet sure since I've not tried it. But I reckon Supersoft > Wilson just from your post.

I'm going to compare Snell ball with Cally Supersoft and I'll know the answer

Snell MTB-x ball

Maybe that helps you if you don't already know the answer. Don't play dumb. haha
