Town of Bandon

Chigolfer2

Recommended Posts

The town has several surprisingly good restaurants and a similar number of tourist foo-foo stores. IMO the best restaurants in the reasonable price bracket are Edgewaters, Angelo’s, and Pablo’s. Given Oregon’s craft beer scene, one would hope for something respectable in Bandon, but such is not the case. The most unique and interesting local aspect are the sea stacks / rock formations on the beaches to the west of town. You can walk to them from town if the weather is decent.

Well, been going for 11 years and it used to be far better. Even Mckees...have you ever tried the pizza? - seriously disgusting (how do you f up pizza?) Things like the meatloaf used to be pure class...these days it is hit and miss.

x2.

The meatloaf used to be a work of art. Last time (November) it looked like a processed slab

I tried Brandon brewing last trip, literally was ignored and didn’t get a menu until 15 minutes after sitting. The server preoccupied herself taking care of what appeared to be regulars. After deciding on what to get we waited another 10 minutes before we saw the server again. Packed up and headed back to the resort and got some pretty good pizza at the pub. Sucked because it was late and I was staying in bandon. Beware there are limited dining options once the sun goes down so call ahead and get hours for what you’re considering. Being I was playing till dark each day, Dairy Queen was my nighttime standby, as was Rays (the grocery store).

x3 the meatloaf has gone downhill. Had to drown it in ketchup.

I must have hit the meatloaf on a good night! After 3 flights, 2.5 hours of driving and 18 holes of golf on my 1st day, I wanted to finish so badly I almost fell asleep on top of it. I can't remember what I had besides the meatloaf but I never had a complaint about the food. Although my standards aren't super high on a trip like this, as long as it tastes good and fills me up for the next day of walking, I'm good!

* Grab menu and grab a table

* Look at menu

* Decide on food and drinks

* Go to bar, order, and pay

It's really not that hard.

TBH I didn't even think they had table service - beside actually bringing out the pies - as everyone just goes up to order.

Agree with everyone that the meatloaf is becoming more institutional year-on-year.

That's it. We've been up since 6:30am - played 36 - had a shower and maybe a bit of a lie down - now it's 6:30pm, it's cold and dark out, and we're hungry... so McKee's? Ya OK, McKee's.

When there’s a person holding an order pad visiting tables and taking orders, you don’t just go up to the bar and order.

Well, at least not in the civilized world. Doing that will get you ignored for sure

Its Tonys Crab Shack unless its named changed very recently.Bandon Fish Market is very good as well. Heck, head over to Rays Market. grab some salad and chicken to go.

OK that's fair enough, thanks for the reply :-)

Since they redid it from its former pizza parlour self, we've always treated it as a pub and gone up to order.

Have you ever had pizza at Denny's in Coquille? I have a friend from there and she swears it's amazing. I'm a little skeptical lol.

No, but I looked it up and it gets great reviews. I will stop next time through. My favorite pizza in the state is Zolas in Brookings.

I've had the Pizza at Denny's. I'm hesitant to say anything is amazing, just think that's and unreasonable expectation to put on a pizza joint. That being said we wen't down there after our first day because to be honest I just don't think there is anything special about McKee's and we wanted to order a bunch of Pizza and spread our group out. McKee's is always super packed. Pizza is solid, prices are great, and the drive is not too bad. We also ordered it to go on our last day as we were driving back to Sacramento. I think we will probably use it as a substitute for McKee's on our next trip one of the days. I mean it was like $20 for a large single topping and $25 for large specialty pizza, I think it was a good choice.

Wow. That's quite the drive. My favorite pizza used to be Woodstock's in Corvallis. I ate many a pizza there while going to Oregon State. Sadly, I went there a few years ago for my birthday and it was awful. The restaurant is no longer a hole in the wall type place, but very corportate and the pizza was much like everywhere else (cheap). Abby's, which go it's start here in Roseburg, used to be good too. But they've also gone down the road of cheap toppings. I mean, their cheese doesn't even melt. Just gross.

I combine it with other activities. Woodstocks is certainly not good like it once was.

I'll add to this thread with a positive note. I went to Bandon in late September and we went into town to grab dinner and the Cranberry festival was going on. They had a live band and tons of weird art, it was a great vibe. Then we grabbed a drink at an Irish pub and had some Guinness. Can't remember the name of the pub but it was a great time!
