Your most unpopular Golf opinions?

My unpopular (maybe) opinion is that anyone whose tee time falls before the course opens for play after a frost delay should be sent home or offered a partial round based on where they might be after X minutes after their tee time.

You take your chances and I shouldn't have my early afternoon tee time altered (pushed back) to accommodate your risk and things that happened before my tee time.

I don't disagree with this.....another (imperfect) solution is for the course to shotgun start when there's a frost delay, but of course no guarantee the course won't back up all day from that.

Adaptive Golf.....look out for the one-armed man:

Love this, truly chaotic.

Imagining the poor retiree acting as the starter having to tell groups they have to go to #4 or go home

1. People who talk to their golf ball, telling it to "sit" or whatever, look like jackasses and are in love with the sound of their own voices. I wish they'd just STFU on the course.

2. "Game improvement" clubs are a scam and paying thousands of dollars for golf clubs makes you look like a jackass, unless you're shooting under par at 135 slope par 72's.

3. Guys with their name on their bag but they can't break 80.

4. There should be a skill test to be allowed to play on a course. I don't care how difficult the test is, but there needs to be one. I'm sick and goddam tired of being stuck behind 3 jackwagons who take 15 minutes a hole.... oh and another thing...

5. If you're 3 and I'm 1 and you don't let me play through I'm allowed to just hit into your ignorant asses and play PAST you while you hack at the ball.

#4.  I like #4.  It would be similar to getting a driver's license.

First, you're given a manual that you should read before you go on the golf course the first time.

Then, an assistant pro or a seasoned volunteer plays three holes with you grading you on things like "ready golf"  and etiquette.

If you pass you are supplied with a card that you show in the pro shop when you are paying for your round.

It doesn't have to be over the top... just something to get you started in the right direction.

I think that is lame for pretty much anyone who isn't either a touring/teaching professional, or an amateur playing college golf.  Use a bag tag instead.

Some more unpopular perspectives from my side:

If you want to put your name on your bag, go for it.  It's your bag.  Anyone who takes issue with this should also be offering to buy you a new bag.

On second thought, I am a walking contradiction on the above topic!  I think over-personalized putters and wedges with stamping everywhere and nicknames and "clever" phrases are lame.

The beverage cart should disappear forever.....but I'd pay extra to play a course with full, clean water coolers on every tee box, or at least every other tee box.

I didn't drink out of those things pre covid. I'm darn sure not starting now.  I've seen the guys filling those things with a nasty looking garden hose too many times. And when (and how, and how often) do they get cleaned or sanitized?

I would (and do) appreciate bottles or water fountains. One of my regular tracks has fountains at a few major convergence points. Same course, interestingly, has the nasty jugs on many tees. I guess they want us hydrated.

I wouldn't miss the cart either.  I might buy something twice a year.

Depending on how busy the course is for the day, you may be able to send them off both sides and catch up quicker to the start time.

Rather than water coolers on every tee box.  I think there should be 3 holes on the course with a large cooler with bottled water.  Bottled water is ridiculously cheap to buy in bulk at Costco/Sams's and they likely have an ice machine if there is a restaurant/bar on premise.

Some courses near me have them but charge $1-2 on honor system.  Just make it free.  Up my greens fee by a buck or two to pay for it if you need to.

Don't be charging me.  I don't drink water on the course.  Just the ol' Italian Sports Drink.

1. If beginners started with forged irons I would be a lot easier to get tee times lol.

2. Totally agree.

Beginners should not be allowed to watch golf on tv. The pre shot routine and commentary of many of these stimulus check golfers is a sight to behold.

But you're not a 1, and rather than work to improve your cap, you choose to complain and mock others.

And, you're welcome for allowing us to review your rant.

I think he's referencing playing as a single behind a threesome, at least that's the way I took it.

(Scandinavian style)
Whining about play speed on a popular golf course primetime on a weekend is as stupid as complaining about not being able to drive 130 km/h on a commuter road to Stockholm rush hours.

Tour players from my homeland normally choke when in contention because our society and school system defies competition.

One should always sit down for a coffee break after 9 holes at the  halfway coffee booth if such a booth is available(nearly always is here)

Enjoying to play with long trousers at temperatures over 20C is a clear sign of non-scandinavian genes.
