Your most unpopular Golf opinions?

BarrySanders

Recommended Posts

(At my club) Anyone playing in a tournament should be required to wear a collard shirt and tuck it in.

a 4hr round of golf is completely acceptable in a 4some. If you don't have time for a 4 hour round, don't play that day.

Growing the game is fine so long as RESPECT for the game is maintained.

18 is still greater than 15.

Golf coverage is better without Tiger.

The driver and the ball are fine, they don't need to change.

Too many lazy people want the game of Golf or Rules, and golf courses watered down and made so it's easier. In other words, a trophy for showing up.

Unpopular opinions? I have a couple

1. Just because you’re a permitted to, putting with the flag in is stupid

2. 99% of “reviews” on here are just regurgitated BS. .. blah blah much more forgiving blah blah playing from parts of the course I’ve never seen before.

3. It’s not the guy with the irons covers that’s the turd... it’s the guy who complains about someone having them.

4. i will quit golf before i ever play irons with graphite shafts

1. If the course is a country club, there should be a mandatory handicap you have to be to play it.

2. Children under the age of 8 should stick to the driving range.

3. Every course should have a marshal making sure pace of play is up to par.

4. No you can’t play just as fast without a golf cart! Stop trying to convince yourself of that.

5. It is in fact the Indian not the arrows.

6. Your handicap is not what you say it is when you move the ball every time you get to it.

I could go on forever but what’s the point?

A few off the top of my head:

1) Par should not be listed on scorecards for recreational amateur play. Par is an irrelevant construct whose main purpose is so when we watch on TV we know where pros stand relative to one another. Elimination of par on scorecards would lead to more thoughtful play and likely lower scoring in a lot of instances.

2) PGA TOUR pros whining about anything ever is a terrible look. You make more for a 25th place finish than most of the country makes in a year. You don't like the policies/rules/whatever? Don't play. You aren't bigger than the game. (Exception: Woods, Tiger)

3) To maintain non-profit status, private clubs should be required to open up to public play a minimum of a day each month at a reasonable (i.e. local market average) greens fee.

If you ever develop arthritis in your hands, as I have, you might want to reconsider #4.

**Having a pretty swing means nothing**.... repeatability and healthy for body are the only foundational aspects.

**All that matters is club head path at impact**.... not: alignment, feet positions, grip, elbows, plane etc ...... none of it!

**What a club looks like is the dumbest thing since not sliced bread**..... if you hit it awesome play that club!

**Relief from fairway divots makes complete sense**.... I didnt know you could see that divot 300 yards away and therefore your responsible to hit it 3 inches to the right but you didn't so your beautiful drive is crap.

**Note: Good original thread OP**

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Give participation trophies to all players in league scrambles who don't win anything, so they aren't scarred for life and they feel less inclined to spend knee-jerk money on high dollar equipment.

Golf announcers should try telling us other stuff besides what we can already see for ourselves. Otherwise, just don't say anything.

The number on your golf ball is simply a hunch by the factory stamper as to how many holes you'll use the ball before you lose it.

The reason people don't drive the ball as well while playing as they do at the range is no one carries a little bucket with them to the tee.

Old Tom Morris would never been able to play today... the way he dressed, he couldn't have gotten any sponsors.

You don't find Paige Spiranac attractive in the least, yet you think Renee Russo was awesome in the Thomas Crown Affair. I agree. Only men of a certain age would make that comment. Get off my lawn!

Politically correct commentary over and over. Busting Reed's balls because he is not politically correct. Golfers under 12 years of age playing on the weekend. Drunk golfers. Music should never be allowed on the course, other than the club house, wear the buds, today's young people listen to some real garbage(music.) Great golfers designing courses that most people can't play. Don't whine about slow play, then brag about how such and such a hole is real tough. Not enough tee boxes. Get rid of colored tee boxes, A,B,C,D, and E would be okay. No tax breaks for private courses unless they are open to public play twice during the week. The Open, what snobs the brits are.

For the pro game:

1) The courses are set up way too easy tee to green. Fairways are so wide that it looks like the long drive grid and the rough is barely tougher than the fairway.

2) Pro golf is really boring to watch when the courses are set up to favour bombers. Setting courses up to make players tee off with hybrid or iron for fear of the rough would lead to longer irons into greens. Too often you see driver plus wedge these days. The most entertaining golf I’ve watched of recent times was the last Ryder Cup.

3) Anything but a standard length putter should be banned except via medical exemption. 34-35” should be a good maximum ensuring people must have to putt properly with no anchoring.

4) Ban green books.

5) Enforce a limit of 2 wedges greater in loft than the PW from the set.

6) Penalty for not shouting fore (must be the player) of 50% tournament winnings, 50% ranking points if applicable and 2 shot penalty.

7) There’s noting wrong with the ball in the pro game. Setting courses up to penalise waywardness would negate all the alleged ball issues.

OK I will bite and trust me I have been flamed and roasted on here before but I am a big boy and can take it.

1-- There is no one etched in stone way to swing and play this game and that includes equipment too

2--- I can hit older irons ( read blades) with traditional lofts better than I can newer CB SGI clubs with jacked lofts--- I did not say further but more accurate

3--- The problems? lately on the PGA Tour with drivers conforming easly solved go back to playing persimmon drivers. Me I could care less what happens in any PGA event

4--- Ignore the USGA and R&A play what equipment you darn well please

5--- Play your game like you and your group wants the main thing is to have fun

6--- Treat the course and the game with dignity in other words no music on the course

That is my .02 FWIW and I will say this----- As a proud American veteran I may not share your opinion but will stand by you and fight to the death if needed for your RIGHT to express it
