After a 280+ yd drive on the opening hole, In Gee bogies after leaving her wedge short in the rough. Chella and Angela both made par.

In Gee put her drive on the 6th into the left hazard. It's going to be a tough par.

The par 4 8th is a beast today. Playing 420 into the wind. In Gee has 225 to the center. Chella is 25 yds ahead, and Angela is 20 yds ahead.

 

The pin is right next to the creek. In Gee and Chella both missed the green left. Angela hit her approach in the penalty area, and dropped 100 yds out. In Gee with a nice up and down for par. Chella burns the right edge on her 8 foot par putt.

How has In Gee been off the tee distance wise vs. the other two through the round? Some of her tee shots mentioned are a prefect example of the issues that some up in these "average" drive or how far do they hit it discussions. On the course I play most often, there is one hole straight into the wind where right now a decent shots flys 200-210. There's another one in the exact opposite direction that is also slightly downhill off the tee, and I've been flying some (not all) in the 275 range. Obviously I'd prefer to tell people about the latter...

Angela and In Gee both bombed downwind drives on the 9th I'd say 290 yds. Lob wedges into the green.

The par 3 15th is playing tough. Long and downwind. The TV camera just doesn't do the hole justice. The elevation change is huge. In Gee with her first birdie of the day.

Lydia has yet to tee off and could have a decent day I guess. The other two are battling to make the cut. Somehow Ryu is still ranked 14th in the world. The other two are 27 and 43. Honestly, for most of the year the eye-test suggests they are all lower I guess they all have 1 win still in the world ranking calcs (In Gee's still in the last year, although she is the lowest of the three). Maybe 1 or 2 weeks where each of them looked good, but I don't think any of them had a real shot on Sunday this year.

 

Despite what the fan in me says, I was not optimistic on any of them turning it around. Not that they can't but you just don't see much from their play. Lydia is now 100+ in driving distance and accuracy. Ryu's GIR has continued to trend down, and the distance she had picked up a few years ago is now being negated by others. I'm not sure on In Gee - seems more like marginal slides across the board.

 

We'll see. They all have some time to figure it out (less for Ryu obviously). But the odd win here and there seems much more like a reasonable thing to hope for vs. anything close to the sustained success they've had in the past.

The month off had the LPGA disappear from mind, I completely forgot there was an event this week lol. Although watching Brooke choke on every hole on the broadcast coming home today probably good I forgot about yesterday, she probably feels the same way about the month off ompetitive golf, she doesn't look very dialed in she was before the break. So I'll hope for a victory from either Chella, Megan or MJ (Mi Jung) not sure whether to use MJ cause on the TV and website has Mi Jung now.
