Cleveland 588 MB Irons - Anyone Still Playing Them?

I'm looking to go a different direction with my equipment for next year and I've been eyeing down some older blades from that last 5-7 years. I stumbled across these as an option and I'm really digging the looks. I've found some older reviews on them and most are good. I also read somewhere that these are forged by Endo? Not sure if that's true or not. Figured I'd toss out the topic and see if anyone is still playing (or has played) these. Would love some feedback.

Yes! They are supposedly forged by Endo. From what I've read, Cleveland decided to go balls out on a return with this MB and so they contracted it out to Endo. What I do know is I've tried a bunch of different blades and the 588 MB are soft like butter. They fell softer than mizunos, titelists, and nike blades. They feel so soft but I still hardly have any wear on my blades even from playing regularly for a few years with them. I love staring at them when on my push cart. I'm still rocking them and have 0 inclination to move them out. I grabbed mine on ebay in almost perfect condition for only a couple of hundred bucks. Get them and you wont regret it!

Sounds awesome. I appreciate that input. Yeah, there's a few sets I've seen at some decent prices. How do you feel about the laser milled/zip groove on the face? Is that similar to how Srixon faces are? Just wondering if it makes these things super spinny. I think my only complaint, looks wise, is the lettering the runs vertically on the face outside of those grooves.

I had the opportunity years ago to play a set that was custom made for a player on what was back then called the Nationwide Tour. Heaviest irons I've ever used. Had to be an "E" something on the scale. Very flat anti-left lies. The grips were Golf Pride cord wraps that had so much cord exposed it felt like gripping a rope. Tore my hands up. I would estimate they each had a pound of lead tape on them. But goddamn they were the smoothest irons I've ever used. I had a chance to buy them and I still kick myself for not taking him up on the offer.

I'm not sure how to really judge the zip grooves. I mean I'm not zipping a 7 iron back across the green or anything but I guess I would say they do what I want them to. However, I also play older BECU wedges that don't have anything fancy on them and I can strip the core off the ball with those and spin my wedge shots back. I'm more of the mindset that most of these clubs are fairly similar and I happen to like to stare at blades. I feel comfortable with the small head and thin topline and I don't like the looks of cavity backs. I chose the 588 mb after a blind test day on a bunch of MBs at Roger Dunn and I kept feeling the butter soft shots of the 588 mb vs titelist, mizuno, nikes, etc. My grooves are still intact after years of play and still have plenty of bite and honestly have barely any wear. I keep my faces clean and don't bang balls on the range much anymore. Buy what you like to stare at and will make you feel good after hitting a good shot :) I sucked when I got my blades and couldn't hit them worth a damn when I first got them. I've since dropped my handicap by about 10 strokes and hit pretty well now. I would credit the blades for adding to my feels and teaching me essentially what swing, impact and shots it wants. Hit it wrong and the ball goes nowhere, but hit it right and it will provide the feedback on a well struck shot.

I'm with Matt, I have two sets; mixed MB/CB that are in the bag now and a full MB set (for when I'm feeling brave). And they're Cleveland, which means you're unlikely to hurt your wallet when you find a virtually unused set available online. Most players would chastise me for dabbling in irons that I don't have the course management, consistency or control to handle, but few things are as nice as blasting the 4 iron 200 yards with the sound/fee to match, pure contact. Anyone stepping in from Cleveland's older offerings, CG2 for example, will recognize the shape and minimal offset immediately.

BUT it also means I was able to compile a really nice bag of adams hybrids and Cleveland blades on the cheap. I play adams pro mini hybrid heads and I cant find any replacements that are as small which means I may have to get some fresh heads off ebay when the time comes to retire my current set.
