** OFFICIAL REVIEW: MITSUBISHI MMT Iron Shafts ***** FINAL REVIEW Post #2 is UP

Did you every try the Hot Metal Pro’s? Reason I ask, when I demoed the HMP’s and the MP’s (all of them) I hit the HMP’s better. Got the set with Recoil 95 F4’s, strong stepped once (heaviest graphite Mizuno offered). Love the look, but have struggled with them since day one. Have the tendency to hook the daylights out of the 4 and 5i when I try to get after em a bit. I’m coming to these after a 3+ yr lay-off due to sever hand pain (good old arthritis). I now play to a 7 and have similar swing speed as you do. I hit any of my other irons pretty damn good, but they all have fairly stout, heavier steel shafts.

Ive followed this thread closely wondering if it’s the weight of the shafts possibly causing me issues, and/or the flex of Recoils. I have no choice now but to use graphite’s if I want to continue playing.

I vaguely remember C Taper marketing claiming 5% lower launch 5% lower and spin and 5% more distance than DG when they came out.

I am kind of a weird case because I tend to launch low launch shafts higher than higher torque higher launching profiles. Amazing the amount of time and money I’ve spent exploring shaft profiles only to learn that common knowledge doesn’t really apply to me.

Pretty sure it’s my quick/short swing and hard transition but whenever I use any kind of active tip shaft I get a low and left ball flight but with a stouter shaft I get a more honest dynamic loft.

I have the 105TX and 125TX soft stepped in a combo set and wedges. You can read my thoughts above. Let me know if you have any questions although my time with them thus far has been limited.

Did some testing and got on really well.

with the $ Taper 110. Just wondered how the mmt 105 might compare?

I play recoil proto 110 f4 in my 7-gw. It was a set of pulls that didn’t have 5 & 6 so I have been trying to decide what to do with those clubs. In a fitting the mmt 105s was carrying the same distance as the recoil but Had about 200 rpm more spin and peaked about 5 feet higher. So I’m gonna give the mmt a try in the 5&6

@Honman I know for a fact that thew MMT's will feel better and be easier on the joints. As far as performance is concerned, there's only one way to find that out.

I am quite mystified about how you guys are doing your testing and fitting. With the exception of Club Champion (a three hour drive for me to hit balls indoors) I can't find anyone with a demo. I thought I had a great plan to move forward with some testing until my bubble was burst today. I lined up to buy two 7 iron heads identical to my irons that I play now. In one I was going to have my club builder install a Fujikura Pro Iron stiff and in the other the Mitsubishi MMT 105 stiff. These are the two shafts that I am interested in. I have never loved the feel of my Steelfibers and what bothers me most is the high balance point. I am like @J13 and have battled elbow tendinitis in a terrible way for 10 years as a result of very limited shoulder mobility from three shoulder surgeries.
I can get one Fuji shaft because it is a .370 parallel tip, no problem there. I was told today from two different sources and the customer service rep at Mitsubishi that one 7 iron .355 taper tip shaft cannot be ordered as taper tips have to be purchased in sets. I totally get why as they are different shafts depending on the iron and if they sold singles I suppose it would be an inventory nightmare. I was also told by Fuji and Mitsubishi that they do not offer any sort of fitting at their facility (I would be willing to hop in the car and drive 5 hours to Carlsbad, I done it before for Callaway and TM).
This is becoming frustrating for a guy who is willing to potentially spend $750 just on iron shafts (4-LW). I am at my wits end and don't know what else to do. Is there any way of testing or is buying and entire set at the risk of not liking it? Any suggestions?

I have 105S in my 3 iron HMB, 105TX 4-6 HMB and 125TX 7-SW MB and my club builder apparently was able to order them that way because I doubt he ordered a whole set of 105S so I could have 1 3 iron shaft for $75. I mean I guess he did order a whole set of shafts but with three different models, so I can’t see why a guy couldn’t get one to demo somehow.

I looked on the bay and there’s one place selling individual wedge shafts in the taper version but not 7 iron shafts.

I normally don't recommend this (in fact I never have) but from what your saying it's worth it to just order them without demo'ing. The MMT's are so much better on your joints and they flat out perform that it's a safe bet you will fall in love. And lets say you didn't how hard do you think it would be to unload them on here?

On a side note:

Went to the range today for a short practice session and took my 50* gap wedge (Cally MD3 with Nippon steel wedge shaft) and wanted to see what it felt like compared to my Cally MD5 with MMT. I guess i'm used to the MMT's, but I noticed an immediate harshness in my elbows after hitting about 15 wedge shots with the steel shafted MD3. Especially on slightly off center shots. Feeling that harshness reinforced that I will most likely never go back to steel. I want to play golf for a long time and anything that reduces the impact on my joints i'm down for.

I switched from steelfiber back to steel in my current set and the performance is great, but I am feeling it. Was thinking of a re-shaft, but will likely just order a whole new set with either MMT, Accra Tours or OTI. Looks like there are tons of sets with OTI Tours on Rakute n Global Marketplace that I can order custom from Japan for a reasonable price which I may take a gamble on. I'm too lazy to go through the 13 pages on this thread, but has anyone compared these to the OTI Tours?

Would really like to try the MMT or OT 105 Stiff but too can't find anyone who has them available to demo. My stock and favorite iron shaft by far is the DG 105 Stiff (103 grams) although I can also hit the 105 X (105 grams) without issue but by joints start to hurt as I practice a lot off mats on the sim. My 7i SS is low 90's.

Does anyone know how the DG 105 profile compares to the MMT or OT?

Thanks

So, I can walk into several golf shops and put a SteelFiber or a Recoil shaft into a Demo head and hit multiple weight/flex combos for each brand.

But, I've got to order $750 worth of shafts to try a MMT 7 iron?

Mitsubishi is reading this thread, and I've got to believe they've though about this distribution issue.

If the MMT is in fact superior to the SteelFiber 125, I want to prove it out myself. Individual user experiences are great, but, they're not my swing.

I'm not blindly spending $750 on something that may perform as good or possibly worse than what I'm playing.

This is the downside that I pointed out during the review. Hopefully they figure something out.

Looks like the set of Prototype 120TX that we’re in the 4-9 Blueprints I sold are listed on eBay right now, a lot cheaper than buying a full set of 125TX. Just an option for someone looking to give these a try. I know I enjoyed them and it’s the reason I have a full set of 125TX sitting on the work bench waiting to be built.

Question for @J13 Did you do the build with these yourself? Reason I ask is I’m going to be building up my 125TX’s over the winter and was curious how you handled swingweighting? The hole in the end of the shaft is tiny, and even using the brass tip weights designed for graphite, I’m afraid they won’t fit and really don’t want to drill the hole bigger. Don’t have the tip weights in hand to try but I believe the “stem” is 1/8”. Tried inserting a 1/8” drill bit in the end of the shaft and it was a no go. Any insight?

Yes I built my irons with the MMT's. Graphite can sometimes be a challenge for adding swing weight. You can bore out the tip section a smidge to make those weights out or your other option is to use tungsten powder and cork method which would not require any drilling.

As of right now these are going in a set of Apex Pro 19 Double Dots. Just a normal hosel on those, wish I had the option of dropping weights in the hosel, would make life so much easier.

Who are you ordering them through? I wouldn’t mind grabbing a few spare 7 iron shafts for testing in other heads.
