** OFFICIAL REVIEW: MITSUBISHI MMT Iron Shafts ***** FINAL REVIEW Post #2 is UP

Just ordered a 5-PW set of Ping i210's with 105 TX soft stepped. Since the Ping i210's are so cheap for some reason relative to other heads, seemed like a good chance to try some expensive shafts.

Excited to give these a try. I've played steelfiber i95's in 4 different sets with good results albeit a little light. I decided to give steel one last try in my current set and the Mizuno shaft optimzer told me PX LZ 6.5. PX LZ 6.5 works great, but a tad heavy and I feel a tad too much toward the end of a round and also have wrist/elbow/finger pain after hitting a bucket of balls so back to graphite. Thinking these will fit great right between the i95's and PX LZ's.

I also got a PXG Gen 3 P 4 iron to match as more of a tee club. I find hot 4 irons work well for me as a driving iron.

I now have two rounds and some range time with the MMT 125 TX soft-stepped two times in my 6 iron. At 88 MPH with my 7 iron and what I have been told a fairly aggressive transition, it is still too much shaft for me. If only there was a 125 gram stiff flex graphite that I like. I am going to spend sometime today with a different fitter to see if there is something out there. My closet full of graphite iron shafts is growing. One day, I'll have a blowout sale on the BST.

Mitsu was planning on a release of 120S this summer. Not sure if that timeline remains with whats going on.

I played golf on Sunday with a guy who was playing Ping i210 irons with MMT105 shafts in them (I didn’t inquire as to whether they were soft-stepped, but his were TX flex). He was hitting the snot out of his irons after a couple holes [everyone was rusty, as our state (PA) had Just allowed courses to re-open]. This guy drove from about 50 miles away in NJ because NJ golf courses have far more stringent restrictions on the golf courses that have re-opened there.

Back to my observations regarding the guy who was playing MMT105 TX shafts in his irons — He only pulled out his driver three times in the entire round (a couple of 440+ yard par 4s, plus one par 5 hole), using his 4-iron off the tee on the rest of the par-4s. Since he hit his 4-iron out there close to as far, or further, on a few occasions, than I was hitting my driver (and I was having a reasonably good driver day), it’s clear that he was hitting the irons very well. He was also very accurate with his mid-short irons all day long. I’d say that he was hitting the 4-iron a good 235 yards or more, and on par-3s where I had to hit my #4 hybrid off the tee, he was hitting his 7 or 8 iron. I think that he only missed one or two greens In regulation the last 16 holes that we played. I didn’t get to talk with this guy much, thanks to “social distancing” and the fact that our tee shots weren’t always close to each other, but since I was curious about the MMT shafts (if I get another set of PXG irons, I’m planning on ordering them with the MMT 90-S shafts), I did ask him a few questions about his experience with the MMT shafts. He said that he loved them, and that they are the best thing that he has seen for alleviating elbow pain while getting tight dispersion.

Sounds as if Mitsubishi has another winner of a shaft with the MMT. I’m a big Mitsubishi shaft fan, having played the Kuro Kage TiNi Dual Core Tour Prototype in TS flex my driver, and a pair of Kuro Kage TiNi Dual Core 80-S shafts in my fairway woods for the last 3 or 4 years. Looks like the MMT iron shafts are next for me!

Coincidentally to the post above. I just got back from the first range session with my new i210's with MMT 105 TX soft-stepped. First, this was also my first time hitting a ball in 7 weeks so I was definitely rusty and have lost a bit of speed. That out of the way, initial thoughts are that these are very steel-like in weight and stiffness. These are definitely stout feeling to me, but not too much to handle. Again, I think I have lost about a club worth of speed due to not hitting anything for two months, so I think once I get back up to speed they will be very nice. Not too light and not too heavy. Performance was what everyone has said, good dispersion left right and front to back.

Coming from Project X LZ 6.5 which I was fit for with the Mizuno shaft optimzer. Probably my favorite steel shaft I've tried if just a touch heavy for my liking, just don't want steel anymore.

Finally playing golf here again in IL and really enjoying my setup with the MMT. They play a lot like the Modus 125 for my swing but easier on the joints.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just bought a set of 125TX in 4i-PW. I tested one out in a 7-iron and thought it was a bit whippy, but it was in a friend’s club with totally different specs. I’m hoping they work out because the arthritis in my wrist is getting to the point I can’t make it through 9 holes without severe pain, and I’m having to take several days off between rounds just so I can hold a club without pain.

Just quoting you to get your attention. Do you feel like the MMT would help ppl with shoulder issues, too? I have no issue with steel and vibrations on my hands, etc but seeing you describe the feel makes me want to buy... but I do have nagging shoulder injury and I wonder sometimes if graphite could help me justify the purchase if they'd help there, lol.

Graphite reduces the impact vibrations through wrist, elbows and shoulders so it can only help. But let me put it this way, my elbows are feeling good again but i won't ever be going back to steel. I love the performance and feel and graphite is only going to continue to get better.

Cool. I think I found a seller on eBay who sells new 125TX for $75 a pop. Do these install the same as graphite wood? I mean... I guess the process is kind of the same for steel and graphite but I tend to be a lot more careful with graphite when prepping. I'm thinking of buying a 7 or 8i shaft to mess around with.

I pounded 100 balls for four days in a row this past weekend on the range off of mats. I feel fine. Previously, I would limit my range time to 70 ball buckets and 2x a week max. The 105tx is plenty of shaft for me. I have them soft stepped and they are still stout. Getting my swing speed back to pre-quarantine, these are really really good. Not as soft/smooth as the LZ 6.5 I’m coming from, but more stable and cushioned. The 105tx is a better weight for me as well. Happy with the purchase.

I took a chance and had a set of MMT 105 S (Hardstepped) 1x installed in some Srixon Z745 Irons. Incredible feel and very tight dispersion. The weight was lower than I have played in the past. I have played SF 110 and Recoil 110 and 125's. The feel of the MMT is hard to beat. Thanks for all of the reviews. I am done with steel shafts except in my wedges.

With graphite ALWAYS use a shaft extractor. With steel shafts you can heat with a torch and twist off, you CANT do that with graphite. You can use a torch as your heating the hosel not the actual shaft but again you have to use a shaft extractor/puller. Do not do it by hand or you will basically destroy the shafts.

wondering what the finish on the 125TX is suppose to be. I have seen all MMT shafts under 90 have a matte finish and have seen a TX125 in a gloss finish that looks nothing like the matte. Wondering if someone with experience about the MMT shafts can tell me if there is a difference. Maybe one finish for OEM and then a different finish for iron shafts only? Please help.

The 125TX definitely have a gloss finish.
