This is hilarious! I spit some coffee on my desk reading this. LOL!

OP, just get some matching after-market leather headcovers with your favorite college or pro sports team and keep it moving.

But somehow that makes me "angry".

Heck, if anything I'm laughing my ass off.

I've been golfing for about 30 years and I've played with a lot of different golfers. I usually find the best golfers have a mismatch of clubs and most don't seem to know all that much or care all that much about brands, they just play what works.

It's usually the guys that have shiny new clubs and are all matchy about their equipment that seem to be average or hacks.

Not saying this is the OP or always the case, just an observation.

If some guy with an old Ping hoofer bag, beat uo Miizzy irons, a old 910 driver and some random 2l3 wood wanted to play a match, Id be much more concerned than if some guy with new clubs that had everything matching asked to play me.

Great thread.

Driver: Cobra F9

3W: Mizzy ST190 TS

Growing up, it was always a matching set. Recently I looked at each club in my bag individually and wanted to look down at something I felt confident in. In doing so, I found a set up that looks great to my eye and performs for ME. I couldn't be happier. Plus, it's somewhat unique. I get the OCD thing, it looks cool to have the matching set, but I have decided to shift my thinking and try something different. And so far, it's working out.

As for the head covers, I just use Seamus, Almigos, The Buck Club, rotation. I guess I don't have the OCD thing going...

At times my bag looks like it came from one of those used bins at the local thrift store. I lately have tried more 3 woods than I can remember, from a variety of manufacturers, both OEM & component. But, I still am enjoying my Ping G 30 driver. Just picked up a new Nike Vapor Fly 3 wood to see if it can make the bag at least for the time being.

Nah. I like the headcovers that come with the club. I believe I've gotten over my concern...hopefully I can go forward with a fitting tomorrow...if the rain allows.

I have a Callaway XR Speed Driver and Taylormade RBZ Black HL3 Wood. I look for the best performance within a dollar amount that I am willing to spend on a club at the time. I have no problem miss matching my equipment.

PING G Driver and Cobra King F6 3-wood (both with stock shafts).

I had a session at Club Champion earlier this year - and while there were some driver combinations that delivered marginally better performance - the fitter had nothing that came close to my Cobra 3-wood.

This year, I have the matching Mizuno ST190 woods (and shortly irons and wedges) But last few years I had the G400 driver and Epic 3w and multiple other mixed combos. Now I just chuck them under Rose and Fire covers and mix n match. My bag and headcovers rarely if ever match the brands I play, but I would prefer to have something brand neutral and no logos. Stopped carrying OEM covers when my Scotty was stolen out of my bag along with my Masters 3w headcover.

Fitting today and much to my surprise, the best driver....is my current gamer...m4

Ts2 - nope

Ts3 - nope

M6 - nope

G410 lst - nope

M5 in all kinds of settings - close.

M5 and m4 were very close. I got best ballspeeds from the m4 (consistently over 160) didn't hit 160 once with the m5. Spin is lower with m5. Launch is the same for both. Dispersion was basically the same. So the m5 is up for sale. May take it on the course to compare head to head there if it doesn't sell quickly.

I bag a Mizuno driver and a Titleist 3 wood. I have a 917D that sits in the basement because the Mizuno is a bit longer and much easier to control and manipulate. I bought the Mizzy used, so it didn't come with a head cover. I just use the Titleist cover.

Play what works for you, and screw what other people think.

I'm recently bought a 2016 Taylormade M2 to replace my Titleist 917 D3. Tried to do the same with the 3 wood but liked by 917 D3 better than the 2017 M1, so it's Taylormade and Titleist for me.

I can relate to this so much. I played at the old course last summer. I am lucky that I live quite close and have some connections. Guy in our 4 ball (they pair you up) had everything brand new Callaway staff bag, shoes, latest flash woods epic irons, putter etc etc. I turned up with my rusted to hell MBs and a bag full of rusted wedges. He made a comment about my bag, saying my clubs looked like **** basically. I offered him a game. Full strokes I said. So he got 21,he said he played off 18, and his choice of match or stroke play.

He topped his tee shot off the first, not great with plenty watching as there always there!

I shot 68, he had more than that for the front nine.

After the round he made further comment that he just couldn't be seen with a bag of clubs like mine and why didn't I get some new ones, I just looked at him. There was nothing I could say in reply apart from asking him where he had got his handicap from and whether he felt the equipment made him better - he never replied.....

I game a 905R with VSteels as my 3W & 5W. I'm prone to getting clubs from the late 90s to mid-2000s as it was a good time in my life. Besides, golf tech has plateaued since then and those clubs can be had for a song.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter
