New callaway driver “mavrik” (Pics added Page 8)

I would have loved for it to worked well but a couple of toe side of center strikes turned left where with sim the fell straight. I'm a fader so it's pretty important that I don't hit it left...at all.

I like to fade the ball as well. Liked The TD flash, hit some of my longer diver of the past year with it but the M5 was more consistent on the edge of the face. I have ordered a SIM and come Tuesday I will test the standard Mavrik SZ to see if it is more consistent than EF SZ.

Good luck. I ordered a sim today. The mavrik sz was very similar to the ef sz. If not for that toe strike going left, I'd be in a callaway driver for the first time since the OG big Bertha warbird, circa 1994ish.

Mavrik and ef sz heads were long...great combination of high launch, low spin, and fast ballspeeds. I'm 108-110 and I hit a couple that carried 280...that's obscene for me right now.

Are u left handed ??? a right handed fader would want some help to the left side ??? Or is it because u play the ball up the left fairway and further left would put you in trouble ?

I'm a righty. I tend to favor the left side and work the ball to center. So anything that turns left is no bueno.

I also am in that swing speed range. Plus I do get a few toe ball strikes per round. Twist face does work for me. But the toe strikes off the Triple diamond were about the same as twist face for me. Good luck on your SIM purchase.

And why does everyone comment on the Triple Diamond (no lefty for me anyway) when they isn't one (yet) for the Mav

for me the last 3 out of 4 drivers Callaway has produced are very easy to draw or hook without effort. I never tried Rogue and still need to test Mavrik. The only current Callaway driver I like was the Epic Flash Sub Zero Triple Diamond.

In the video podcast Callaway took down a day or so back, during the discussion about the Mavrik SZ, they said the EF SZ Triple Diamond was used as a bench mark (for the lack of a better word) for the Mavrik SZ. The EF TD had a huge amount of usage on Tour so they designed the Mavrik SZ using much of what was so good about the EF TD however it was enhanced with the new face material, new AI face and cyclone aero design head shape.

Most reviews I have read are saying the Mavrik standard and SZ are very neutral biased. Of course, it’s all player and strike dependant.

My Triple Diamond has 4g front, 16g back in the center and it is so straight for me. Toe strikes fly straight just like a toe strike with my old M6.

Could this hook biased thing have something to do with pretty upright lie angles? Flash had 58° and EF SZ had 56° based on the website specsheets.

Agreed - I watched that podcast as well

I would be shocked, in other words, if the Mav SZ had any bias at all based on that

They fully admitted the standard model has a bit of draw bias in that podcast - assume one could hotmelt that out of it though

any other thoughts on this appreciated

One of the tour players who is switching from EF to Mav saw an 8 yard increase on his mishits. That's insane!!! As a hack, I saw a huge increase for my particular miss as well.

Gave the mavrik a spin the other day... It feels much more solid, sounds better, and has less going on than the Epic Flash SZ.

Completely forgot to take a picture of the # of the Epic Flash SZ, but the Mavrik had noticeably lower spin and higher ball speed.

I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised.

How is the shape different if any than the Epic Flash SZIf Mavrik SZ was modeled after EF SZ Triple Diamond why are pros still playing a Mavrik SZ Triple Diamond (look at picture of DA Points)Have heard more forgiveness than EF SZ. Is that due to head shape? Wonder how Callaway achieved this?

I put in the order yesterday (will actually be logged tomorrow) for the Mavrik SZ w/ Aldila Rogue 130 MSI White 70X. Don't sleep on this shaft BTW. A couple of takeaways from a guy who tried hard to game the EF SZ. Cleanest look from address from Callaway or any OEM in years. Very Traditional (in a good way)... they've downplayed the carbon crown and removed the ridiculous ridge line that was on the crown of the EF. I found the Mavrik SZ to be more forgiving than EF SZ and the ball speeds were better for me than with the SIM or SIM Max. It was low spinning but in a way that much more playable.

The sound... I was in the camp that hated the sound of EF (like a tin can) and they've fixed that with this driver. Not the muted thwack of the OG Epic but away goes the ting of the EF.

Yeah at 59* I'd have to play the 10.5* all the way open. But...I'm a fairly low launch/delofter of the club these days so I'd need to help get a bit of launch unless I can magically add about 5-6+mph of ball speed in 2020. I'd maybe need to hope I get a lighter head then add some hot melt in the back or buy an after market weight for the rear. I'm already playing my Epic SZ 9* up to 10* and my miss tends to be a little toey, so a little extra spin isn't a bad thing. I always used the "sz" version of heads because of the flatter lie. if a SZ is 59 then is the std head 60? That's more upright than my 3w.

Hit the Mavrik SZ today side by side with my Flash SZ using same shaft (HZRDUS Smoke Black 70X). Much better sound and feel, shape is very nice, picked up 4 mph of ball speed, and reduced spin 400 rpm. First time I've ever seen 175 BS on a launch monitor. Needless to say, I'll be waiting in line next week to buy. Well done Cally improving what I thought wasabout as good as drivers could get.

Do we have a full shaft list anywhere yet? there is basically NO info on this release.

BTW - SIM line is garbage in comparison.

From what I remember of watching the podcast/bag room thing on youtube:

-New face material

-"Cyclone shape" on the standard model

-Standard model has draw bias

-they will be marketing "unconventional forgiveness" which if I remember is more of a ball speed on mis-hits due to flash face and AI story.

-conscious effort to use AI to tune the sound with internal ribbing

-Aldila 130 is not the silver profile
