The Challenge: Japan Skins

The one club bit was pretty cool.

Mid length par 5 - I think I'd go 5 iron too.

Caught holes 3-11 at the gym... pissed it's not on the app for free.

Tiger caught fire after the won a hole. Feel bad for Hideki feels like he's putting pressure on himself to perform in front of the home crowd. Rory had some wow shots, but didn't win a thing yet. Day's driving was nice, but otherwise unremarkable.

They’ve started to play a bit better on the back 9.

Loved the One-Club Par 5 challenge, Day’s bunker 6-iron was really quality.

But those greens are tough - they mentioned the considerations of the speed for the week, they may slow them up for the tournament proper.

All in all, seems to be a fun event and played in good spirits.

I had to delete the app and reinstall it to get the stream to work at all...

Pain in the you-know-what, but that’s tech these days.

Kind of petered put at the end, but it was there play for.

Funny how JDay credits the vest, wonder if TW (or Nike) will let him keep it ?

I think they already made most their money in appearance fees. The pot was so small didn't really matter.

golftv is pretty smooth for me in auckland. high definition no lag, better than sky.

wish they are able to cover the full pga tour incl. other big european tournaments etc. I dont mind paying for golftv.

When I first read the size of the pot, I thought that the article I was reading made a mistake!

Yeah they were basically just playing for dinner money. Some fancy steaks and semi nice bottles of wine will eat up their share. I don't know how Hideki could survive on 1 skin! 20k might get him a nice omakase and fancy sake for the group if he's lucky.

Quite clearly the "Sponsors Dinner" the night before the match was the big event. Guys were hungover for the front 9 then sobered up and remembered it was on TV.

Me either. Kind of irritating to me that it came on at midnight on Sunday. Why not Saturday night so someone can watch ? Weird to me to be on at that time. I have a kid to get to school at 7am. So up at 545. Not really going to watch form 12-4 lol. Oh well.

This was horrible. How you have this in Japan where golf needs ZERO promotion is beyond me. This should have taken place in the USA in an attempt to grow the game. Also, the personalities are NOTHING like the Trevinos, Watsons and Nicklaus of years past. These guys try to be personable but are arrogant as it gets. IMO this skins was an **epic fail **and its sad because it could have been great. Golf just isn't what it used to be. Unless its a major tourney, nobody cares.

Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Why does the game not need promotion in Japan? As opposed to that little known golf nation called USA that has more golfers than the rest of the world combined. Also it's a skins game, as far as I remember nobody has ever really cared too much about skins exhibition games. You have to take it for what it is, a bit of fun.

Golf is great to watch 4-5 weeks out of the year. The rest of the time it's almost unwatchable.

Clearly, I'm in the minority, here, but I actually enjoyed watching this. It was more of the laid-back, relaxed vibe that was appealing, rather than what is usually seen on the tour broadcasts. They all seemed to play faster, with much less caddie conversation, and setups, and the casual conversations between shots and holes was a nice addition. There were bad shots, mediocre shots, and some really good shots, which were all enjoyable to watch, as a "once-in-a-while" event. I also enjoyed the 3 "charity challenge" holes, where there were a few twists, just to change things up a bit. I watched the first hour live, DVR'd the rest, and finished watching the rest of it, this morning. All in all, I enjoyed the entire thing. Of course there were a few small things that weren't great (Geoff Ogilvy's commentary, or lack thereof), but not enough to deter me from watching another one of these, if it were to happen.

I think Japan is OK. I do not mind that. They should have just recorded it and ran it today doing their prime time viewing.

Plus I bet each player got at least a million to play upfront

This is my gripe. Why was it on at midnight ? As if it was “ the open “ and warranted staying up. Are they even rerunning it ?
