Streamsong Review - Bowling Green Florida

Recommended Posts

As far as the courses go, I think you'd be splitting hairs but agree, both sets are exceptional.

But theres absolutely no chance this is true in terms of the service - the service at Sea Island is a hundred miles above the service at SS from top to bottom.

I just remembered. My friend was served chicken wings at SS that were frozen inside. Yikes.

Another table was having some sort of similar issue and speaking loudly and not so nicely to the manager. They really need to step up their game to be successful.

This is late October in I would think the beginning of a busy season for them.

I have but one of the Sea Island courses I played last year has been completely renovated so I can really just compare the Seaside course. I would put it probably ahead of any of the Streamsong courses but it’s a close call with the Red. Both are great courses, Seaside has the advantage of playing through marshes and off the water if that matters to you.

The other "comparison point" if you want it is that at Sea Island while you have the three amazing courses, the great hotels, practice area, amenities and everything - there are also some off property golf options that are cheaper.

Plus - you have the entire town right there at your disposal.

At SS you are literally 30-45 minutes from anything. If you havent been there, I know it sounds like an exaggeration - oh these guys are just making fun of it, I've lived in small towns/cities before, there is stuff there. No, there really is not. When you are at the resort you are at the resort. You're not leaving for an hour to go grab bagels or some sandwiches.

As I wrote in my trip report - I loved everything about the golf at SS, pretty sure I gave it an A or A+. But the rest of it just didnt work for us.

  • 2 weeks later...

Played the RED/BLUE years ago, the courses/golf group was great to work with, was a day visit while in FL for work. What I recal the most, the golf was really good, the resort people s*cked bad...!! Sounds like nothing has changed. Sad too as I would like to go back but lack of treating people well, its just NOT worth the money given the prices.

Honestly if it is $750.00 a night, does that include two rounds? Bandon is $725.00 for a single in a Forest King and two rounds during peak less if splitting a room. I know people on this thread will say you need a caddie at Bandon but, I could be wrong, at SS peak I thought they did not let you take carts and you walked or took a Caddie? Carts only in the summer?? *At least when I was there yearssss ago that was the status.

Given Bandon is known for excellent after golf (though I hear that is sliding a bit too....) it makes me wonder why anyone would go to SS for a package deal. Just golf I would agree on that note.

Cuz weather in January will be nice and east coast flight from northeast/Midwest is direct/cheap 2.5 hours flight to TPA or mco.

Im heading to bandon in a couple months and it’s a full day travel (connecting flights from east coast) attached to a 4 hour car ride. Some folks who are still working or have a growing family don’t have the luxury of a 5-6 days to make the trip, especially if it includes 2 full day to get back and forth.

And then there’s bandon weather. Obviously no shades against bandon. But winter time and cabin fever is a real thing. I tried to change my tee time at SS next week but they were full till 2pm most days.

One round, one room, $750 during peak season at SS. Yes, that's higher than Bandon. Both resorts are walking only.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Given Bandon is known for excellent after golf" but everything I've read says Bandon "after golf" sucks. Maybe it sucks less than SS.

I'm planning to play Bandon in August and SS the following February.

I like Streamsong, and it's a great option for what it is, but there are a bunch of other places with good golf and weather that are cheaper. World Woods, basically next door, is in that category. You could do any number of Arizona / SoCal trips for less money.

Streamsong is fun, but it's not cheap. And IMHO the resort is overpriced based only on the service (/lack thereof) level.

Do the combination of courses at World Woods stack up to Streamsong? SoCal probably has good options but for East Coasters Streamsong is much easier to travel. And which places in SoCal would be cheaper with the same quality golf courses? Weather in Scottsdale probably isn’t as good or as reliable as Florida that time of year.

I love world woods and I am not head over heels in love w Streamsong but no WW courses do not stack up to the 3 at Streamsong. That said it's considerably cheaper to goto World Woods. Id say Pine Barrens is on the same level as the SS courses. Rolling Oaks would definitely be a step below. Also different styles as SS and even Pine Barrens are more open and linksy feeling while Rolling Oaks is more of a traditional parkland course.

Not many true public walking courses better than streamsong during the winter time that’s easy to get to.

I mean, if you write the spec to fit only Streamsong, it will always win:

I'm looking for a course that...:

Is sand-based, linksy design;

Is walking only;

Has a good caddy program;

Has February average temps from 75 - 82 degrees;

Is there nothing else like this!?!?!?

IMHO World Woods and Streamsong are pretty good comps, except that Streamsong is what's trendy right now (minimalist etc.) and World Woods is what was trendy 20 years ago.

Another contender would be Bermuda, where for similar to Streamsong $$$ you have Tuckers Point and MOC.

Agree on Bermuda, love it there and the golf. But the weather that time of the year is usually chillier than Florida.

For as much as you can knock Streamsong, for wintertime there really aren’t a lot of options that are a better combo of golf quality and weather, especially for the East Coast where you can do a long weekend. Punta Cana would be another comparable, but that is not cheaper.

World woods conditions are not as good in recent years. And there’s literally nothing there as far as amenities goes. At least there’s a roof top bar at SS where you can go to town on the over priced bourbon.

MOC is great except there’s limited tee timeA for outside play. Hard to plan around that. I also don’t get why people like to play golf in a cart after being in an office all week long.

Criteria as set above leaves the DR as the best choice, either Casa de Campo or Cap Cana/Punta Espada in Punta Cana. WW used to be good but has dropped off in overall quality. Streamsong is very good but not cheap. Weather in the DR is more guaranteed as well
