Callaway SUPER!! Hybrid review

Did the weighting change much going from the counterbalanced orange to the phenom? I’ve got a couple spare hybrid shafts that I was thinking of throwing in and seeing how they work

Yes, the swingweight did go up a couple of points from D2 to D3-D4 but I like my clubs on the heavy side.

I have a 17 degree Rogue hybrid that I like and has been quite useful off the fairway. I like the 17 degree Super Hybrid, but haven't been able to hit it enough to see how it is different from the Rogue. I am playing 2 rounds next week, so I hope to put it in play and see.

I've had mine out for a few rounds now. Really liking it so far. Much nicer feel and sound than my Rogue 17*. More of a wooden bat deal. I've only had it on the course but it seems to have more of a penetrating flight but that may be the hzrdus black 105 shaft, which is a great with this head for me so far. No lefts at all. I actually needed to move it to draw, something I never do, especially with hybrids. I think when it's warmer and I have less layers on, it'll probably be better on N. My distance with it was very consistent and just about what I'm looking for. No problem out of the light rough.

Just got back from playing 2 rounds in Florida. I probably hit it 3-4 times in each round. I found it to be a very solid, consistent club. I really like the way it looks at address, and it has a nice sound and feel. The 17 degree seems to have a higher ball flight than my Rogue 17 degree hybrid. It maybe slightly longer than my Rogue, but I'm not sure about that. That isn't an important characteristic for my anyway. I found the consistency, which is most important to me, to be quite good. There were no hooks, that I will occasionally see with my Rogue hybrid. I haven't played it enough to be able to decide if this is a minor or moderate upgrade from the Rogue, which is also a really good hybrid from my perspective. My Rogue hybrids were free, so I'm not sure that I would upgrade, if I had just paid for the Rogues that I got last spring. If you have a few clubs to trade-in, and your hybrids are a few seasons old, I would definitely consider this hybrid.

Played 5 rounds with the 17 in florida last week. Stock shaft standard length

Must say this thing is longer than my 17 G400. Launches higher with similar spin. No left tendency. Also must say that the loft adjustments really make a difference in terms of launch.

That said my G400 is one of my best clubs in my bag so don't think the SH will stay. Off to BST.

Thanks for sharing that TXG review. I can’t wait for spring to come around, so I can get these hybrids out on the course and see if they are as a good a fit for me as I hope they are. Initial testing for me has been positive.

Not to derail or confuse, but I spent a little time with the Mav pro hybrid and find it very interesting as well. It’s not as deep as the super, but one thing I find very interesting is the face.

There seems to be almost zero bulge or roll to it. The face is very straight.

I found it pretty anti left and very playable.

Super Hybrid is a cannon and the new Mav pro hybrid is ridiculously good. I've been testing a few hybrids and Mav pro stands out for sure.

Thanks to the warmer weather and snow drought here in Pa. I've been able to play a lot with mine. It's been exactly what I was looking for. There was an adjustment period because of the shaft but I'm seeing similar results to what they saw on the TXG review.... I need to work pretty hard to draw it. Basically it's a 4 wood that's hard to screw up.

Been through 12 different 4 woods over the past 5 years or so. None of them have stuck since I stupidly gave away my Exotics tour spec 4 wood to move to an RBZ. Never should have gotten rid of what was working. I hit my hybrid much more consistently, so I have an 17 degree Super Hybrid on the way.

There may be something to what they were saying in the TXG video about the shorter shaft working better for those of us with shallower swings. That is a problem I have at times(getting too shallow, then it’s either duck hook city or bad contact). Hopefully I can get better strike consistency out of this club.

I'm tempted with a 17/18 loft hybrid, and I like the look of this Super Hybrid, but I'd have to import one. Can anyone tell me the differences between the Super and Epic Flas and the Big Bertha 2019? Sorry if it's been mentioned in the thread before.

The super is almost fairway wood sized. Very big for a hybrid. Titanium in the face and body with a. Composite crown. It was built to compete with woods. Really kind of a pure distance machine.

the flash is more your traditional hybrid size. Slightly smaller footprint. It is pretty neutral in setup. Meaning, not heavily draw biased. It is also the highest tech filled head in my opinion.

the big Bertha is going to be your most forgiving, most draw biased model of the bunch. It’s is touch bigger than the flash and will be the easiest to launch.

I’m interested to hear what puts the Epic Flash above the Super Hybrid in your opinion. I would have put the SH as the top dog for Callaway’s offerings in the tech category. Titanium face and chassis with internal tungsten weight combined with an adjustable sole screw, composite crown, and adjustable hosel seems like a club that’s pretty hard to beat. Add in the real deal Tensei Pro Orange stock shaft and it has to be at least their most premium hybrid. That’s not to say the EF isn’t still a great club though.

Great info. Thanks.

So my set up is Tm OO mini driver lofted at 11.5* and then Caallway Apex 19 23*, and obviously thinking how they set up, would you go with the Super/Flash or BB lofted to 16/17?

Thanks,

Ian.

I replaced a TS2 Titleist 4 and 7 wood with the 17 and 23 degree, the SH is longer than both in that slot and much easier to hit imo. Not being a big hitter these really work well on long Par 3's and into Par 5's, I was so impressed I found a 20 and added that to the bag as well.

I did not get along with the Tensei at all and put a GD AD DI 85 Hy S in both the 17 and 23 and that is a much better fit for me, still have the stock Tensei in the 20 but I am thinking of putting a KBS prototype 85 into the 20 and see what happens.

Overall just a point and shoot club and I have tried a lot of Hybrids and never could keep one in the bag more than a few weeks before losing confidence with them, I can still pull the SH left but it takes some effort to hit these bad.

Mostly a high straight flight for me just not trying to jump on it, but a bit stronger swing produces more of a fade bias than draw for me.
