Why wasn't Cog Hill's Dubsdread ever given a U.S. Open??

Chicago lost the Western because they couldn't produce a big enough sponsor long term and golf pivoted to new corporate areas of growth. Motorola, Cialis, Golf Digest, Advil, none of those throw around the kind of money needed for a sponsorship today like FedEx and others. There's no reason the Quad Cities has a tour stop and Chicago doesn't other than the fact John Deere can provide sponsorship. Not being able to produce a global level local sponsor, and shortly after Mr. Jemsek's passing, doomed one of the longest running events on the tour. Money talks.

So the only way we will see a regular tour stop in Chicago again is if a company such as Mcdonalds which is based in Chicago and Oak Brook signed on to be a sponsor for say 10 years. Or you could go with Boeing who's corporate headquarters are in Chicago as well.

They are bigger than John Deere and have the money to make a tour event a success.

They'd have to want to first. Both McD and Boeing have no real need to do so as neither really need more exposure.

I don't anticipate it coming back for a while.

Someone said that TPC was interested in buying Cog with the intent of bringing an annual event back.

Boeing I believe sponsors a Champions Tour event out in Seattle so I would think possibly that they may have an interest in sponsoring a regular PGA Tour event as well.

People b!tching about it because it is hard is unbelievable. Also if Phil and Ogilvy never said anything about it then no one would have jumped on that train. I play dubs probably 5 times a year, is it hard? Sure. Is it Kiawah Island or Bethpage? No way. Also Phil and Ogilvy's comments don't even resonate with the normal golfer, so to say you agree with them is most likely a blind follow. Unless you are playing from 7600 and the rough is 3 inches longer than they have it 99% of the year now. The green complexes are awesome too.

Agreed. I didn't play it before the redesign, but in the few times I played it after I found it a tough play but nothing ridiculous. And for all the bitching and moaning Tiger shot -19 the first event back, how does that work out? Some of the complaining was arranged IMO with intent to get the event moved to Conway Farms, which just so happens to be Luke Donald's club that he was lobbying for for quite some time. How many 59 watches did we see there? Furyk did it, Day came close. Call me crazy but that's not all that fun to me, I want to see pros challenged a little bit, especially for the latter parts of the FedEx Cup.

Phil has always been my least favorite player on tour. All he does is whine like a spoiled little child.

The tour screwed up the Western Open when they moved it to the BMW big time. It is a shame for Chicago as they deserve better. It wasn't so much the money the tour was asking for as the long term commitment 5 or more years. I hope the Jackson Park renovation happens and they have an event there on a Chicago PD course.

Boeing already does a partial sponsorship of the Heritage down in Hilton Head.

The crybabies got a much easier course in Conway Farms.
