PING 2020...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever ordered any of the all white Ping bags? I'm really drawn to the all white Pioneer 2020 bag, but I'm afraid of how dirty looking it could get. Do they clean up pretty easily?

The hoofer lite has some good colorways. I especially like the heather gray, blue and scarlet one. The only thing I don’t like about my 4under series bag is it takes a yoga expert to get a water bottle out and back in while you’re walking. Doesn’t look like it’s any different with these bags, well, maybe on the CEL it’s on the side but those colors don’t really do it for me.

Absolutely! I've played about 15 rounds with it, and I stand by my initial assessment that it's way better than the older versions. It seems to be much better balanced when you carry it, either backpack style, or with one strap (the straps are extremely comfortable too). Every round I've played I've carried all 14 clubs, a few gloves, some balls, water bottle, range finder, and threw my sweater in the bag halfway through the round and never once had any storage space issues.

Obviously you'll have some club tangle issues, but I think that comes with the territory. The new top divider is nice simply because it helps to keep things sorted a little bit. With the older versions, I would always carry a short set just because I got sick of trying to find a 9 iron, but now that's not the case. Things seem to stay much more organized, much easier.

I'lll likely order a craz-e-lite as well just to have for tournament golf, but the moonlite is awesome for quick 9's or even full 18. It's just that good.

Got the CEL in the mail yesterday. I currently have a mackenzie and wanted something super lite and slim (live in a apt in NYC) without too much bulge and a stand. The bag seems to fit those criteria perfectly.

Obviously not as much room at the base as the fullsize hoofers and no full length dividers but the bag seems perfect. Highly recommend.

Let me know if anyone has any specific questions on it. The black and white checkering colorway looks pretty slick.

Does the new L8 still have the "wooden dowl" for the spine of the bag?

since you also own a Mackenzie, how do the two compare regarding comfort of carry and club tangle?

Club tangle is alot better in the Ping (although not as roomy as the big Hoofer).

I actually find the strap on the Mackenzie to be petty uncomfortable when carrying a full bag long distances. The Ping strap is better but def could use some more padding.

I think this bag is a perfect complement to the Mackenzie bag though. The mackenzie just looks incredible and timeless. The Ping bag is slim like the Mac but has the convenience of the stand, two straps, a couple extra pockets, and a little more sturdy when placed against a wall upright.

Hope this helps. I havent had the bag out on the course yet....seems won't for a while once the Covid passes through.

Quick question for you: can the Moonlite be converted easily to be used with a single strap? It says so on the website, but I wonder how well that works. I will get one of these, but I like to use it with a single strap if possible. Thanks!

Extremely easy! this is the first Ping bag I've seen that I remember having clips to attach/detach the strap. I'd say you could do it in 2 minutes or less if you wanted?

Thanks @braincramp52 - I appreciate the input. Do I assume correctly you have the DLX bag? Since the Pioneer won’t be leather I won’t use the same method you do, but I assume something like a magic eraser should help cleanup any major discoloration on that material.

Yes, it's the DLX. A magic eraser might be a good idea. The pioneer is a great bag.

Here's my CEL loaded up with a medium weight fleece coat and rain shell (weather ended up way nicer than expected) plus everything else. I walked 54 holes the last 3 days, on hilly courses, a personal record, maximizing pre-closure golf. I really didn't think of the bag though the whole time. I continue to really like this bag. Anyway, thought I'd share....

The CEL looks nice. These straps? Tell me more. The normal PING straps were some of my favorites as they never tangle and are well padded. These are not those, clearly. Tell me more please.

also, is the top a 4 way divider? Any pics of it?

The straps are great in terms of never tangling, going into position, etc. They SEEM too thin, but then I don't think about them so I guess they're fine. I posted an up close pic of them somewhere above but they're some sort of thin, firm-ish, memory foam-like material. This time of year though admittedly I'm wearing layers so maybe it'll be different when they're over a single layer/shirt?

I just got this bag about a week ago for tournament golf, and decided to run it around a few laps just to get everything dialed in, and I can second the notion that the straps are surprisingly good! I felt at the end of rounds like they still had a lot of spring in the padding, which was a nice change of pace. I'd say that they're as comfortable or more comfortable than the normal Ping straps.

The whole bag is really, really good. I was a little worried at how flimsy the material felt, but after using it for a while, I feel like this will be a really solid addiction to the lineup.

I didn't want to part ways with my L8+ that I got a few years ago (the newer version), and after that bag finally broke last summer I was pretty bummed out. I'd say that the CEL is as close to that bag as you can get in terms of space, functionality, and looks. A home run in my opinion.

While I haven't seen the CEL, I had similar concerns with the Sun Mtn 2.5+ straps. That is, they 'seemed too thin', but they ended up being perfect. The thinness allows them to hug/conform to the shoulders better, and there's more than sufficient padding. I find that thicker, bulkier straps don't fit as well and they ride weirdly on the shoulders.
