PXG Gen 3... Jan 2020 (ST, Gen 3 T and P Photos added Page 13)

J40 CB with steelfibers were one of my best sets I've owned. Looking to recreate that with the 0311 T's and i95's. ....Or P's, still undecided on which model to go with.

On that note, has anyone had experience with PXG irons and Steelfiber shafts? I am asking because I know that they sometimes can be tricky to swing weight and I see a lot of PXG sets on ebay with steelfibers that are +1/2" or +1" which scares me a little because adding length is what a lot of people do when that's the only way they can figure out how to get the swingweight back up to a normal range. It seems like with all of the screw weights they'd be able to just add heavier screws? Has anyone gotten PXG irons with lighter shafts at standard length and gotten the swing weight they want? Or just any thoughts on PXG swinweighting experience in general?

I have mizuno mp20's blended set as well. Recently went to a pxg fitting.

The ST is the blade and very similar to mp20 muscle backs. The sole of the ST is slightly wider than the MB's. And the ST felt AMAZING when nutted.

The P is similar to the HMB. I think the PXG's feel/sound better than the hollow HMB's.

I really want to blend the ST, T, and P's. But I'm looking for a little bit more forgiveness on mishits. The ST's punish the mishits like all blades do, but not nearly as much as the mizuno's.

I'll be ordering a blended set of the T's and P's for added forgiveness.

PXG blends sets fairly often and you can always go back if you have any gaping issues. On the #PXGTroops facebook group, people rave about their blended sets all the time. If you can play the ST's, then go with ST and T blended sets. i don't think you'll need a P club in that bag, but I don't know who you play and trying to mitigate gaping issues, but regardless of how you blend it, PXG will be happy to take your money, I mean help you with any gaping issues.

Great info. Thanks. I am leaning toward T's 5-Pw and then possibly a P in the 4 iron, but may just go all T's.

Alternatively, if I end up getting cold feet I may try a P 3 iron which is what I was looking at before the hero pricing discount (and having way too much time on my hands to think about new clubs).

FVV0V9Y5ZM4P.jpegTook advantage of the 30 day guarantee, my original mix was T’s and P’s, including a gap wedge in the T model. Decided to go all P this time, and swapped the gap wedge for a putter. And yes, that is a Clorox wipe on top of the box.

will report back. The T’s just launched a bit too low for my needs. These have Modus 105’s, 1 weak and 2 flat. Putter is the closer, 33.5. 370 head weight.

Would you please be so kind to post some good playing position pictures of the PW and 8 iron in the Gen 3 0311P?

While your comment wasn't directed towards me, I did receive a little teaser package from my PXG rep today. I have been playing the original PXG iron since the first day i could get my hands on them. These were released before they even came up with the "P" designation. However, they are closer to the P than any other ones.

Here are some comparison pictures between my original 7 iron, the Gen 3 P head, and the Gen 3 T head (left to right). Let me know if you want any other pics. They were kind enough to send me three of the four shafts i wanted to try. My original PXG set has Steelfiber i95 shafts. Bought these right after elbow surgery and wanted to be very protective. They sent me Steelfiber i95, Steelfiber i115, Accura i90, and KBS TGI 80. Prior to PXG, i religiously played Project X 5.5's (0 hcp, drive swing speed around 106, smooth tempo). Dropping down to the SF i95's was not that big of a transition.

Was able to hit the various shafts today both on our indoor TrackMan and on the outside range. Both the Accura i90, and especially the KBS TGI80's felt light. Distance was the greatest with the KBS shaft, then the Accura i90, next the i95 Steelfiber, and finally the i115 Steefiber. Variability (both distance and side to side dispersion) was the exact opposite. The two Steelfiber shafts were the tightest, all the way down to the KBS which was all over the place. On the Trackman simulator, i thought the Accura shaft felt the best. However, on the range, Steelfiber seemed to win.

I have rather large hands and use midsize grips with extra wraps. This makes it a challenge to test clubs. When compared to my original PXG with the large grips, all of the gen 3's seemed light. Wondering if the slight increase in grip weight is enough of a counterbalance causing the club to feel heavier.

Overall, the Gen 3's seem to perform very close to my original PXG's. I did not see the 10+ yards of gain that some are reporting. Feel was really similar - which i love. I hate to say it, but my original PXG's might feel just slightly better - could be due to the grip differences. I did demo the Gen 2's a while back. From what i can remember, the Gen 3's feel much better / Gen 2's felt much harder.

Comparing my original PXG's to the Gen 3 P head, it seems like the Gen 3 is just slightly shorter heel to toe and has slightly less offset. From the address position, the top-line of the Gen 3 does appear thinner. At first, i thought i was hitting the T head.

Even though i can not tell too much of a difference between the two, I am probably going to get the Gen 3's. One or two more range sessions to validate the shaft. Currently leaning towards the Steefiber i95s.

That was very informative and glad to hear that have better feel than the Gen 2’s. Well kind of, as now I have to pay more to get the Gen 3’s than the current Hero’s deal on the Gen 2’s! :)

When I had my fitting and played the Gen 2’s, I did not think they had much feel and the fitter said Accra Tour 90i shafts performed best for me compared to my Steelfibers. Not sure I liked the Accra shaft as much as the Steelfibers when I tried them on the course though and ended up returning the set.

Thanks for the pics. I too am playing Gen 1 0311 (P) with i95 steelfibers. Love those shafts. Used to play s300 and had so much tendinitis I had to stop playing for 6 months. Bought the i95 and have never looked back. They will be my shafts of choice until something new ever wows me.

i really do want to upgrade later this year to the Gen 3. Not sure if P or T, but most likely P as my iron game is what holds me back from improving the HC. Currently sit at a 6. Driver and putter are my most consistent part of my game.

thanks for the pics and good luck. Let us know when you decide.

Got my Gen 3 Ts in the mail yesterday! The heads are definitely compact - slightly smaller than my Miura 1008s - larger than my Miura Baby Blades. More forgiving than either, though not by a ton.

Performance is extremely similar to the 1008. Around 500 rpm less spin and 0.5 degrees lower launch (though they're PX 6.0 vs Oban CT-115). About 3 yards extra carry. Same lofts.

Feel is pretty surprisingly close as well.

Overall, I'm pretty shocked how similarly these two irons perform for me. There was probably no need to "upgrade", but I wanted a little technology and forgiveness, and I feel like I got that.

I also hate money - so there's that.

I was fit into them not long ago, and they were a free option. Figured I'd play them for a while and see how I like them. If I don't, I can always swap my current set in (along with some sweet BB&F ferrules I have laying around).

At the end of the day, I really wasn't willing to pay the $75 per shaft upcharge when I already have a set.

Ordered the Gen 3 0311 P's a couple months back. Absolutely beautiful clubs, but I was hoping the P's would be a bit thinner and more compact. My other set is Ping i500's which are noticeably thinner and more compact than the P's. For anyone who has hit both the P's and T's, can you say speak to the difference in performance, namely distance and forgiveness? If their isnt much between them, I'd consider selling the P's and ordering the T's in the same specs.

Really? The 0311P are way bigger than the i500??

They're not way bigger. I would say the 0311 P has a slightly thicker top line compared to the i500. The i500 is one of the sexiest looking clubs but that all ends when you hit a ball. I had a decent time with my i500 and while the ball flight was good, they weren't as forgiving as the 0311 P and the sound off the face was very clicky, if that makes sense. Whether it comes from a hollow body (no goo inside) or the forged face, it's got a very clicky sound and it's hard to tell if you've hit it well or not. As for the 0311 P, the goo inside (or Impact Reactor as PXG calls it), definitely feels different and much more of a solid thud, when you compare it to the clicky nature of the i500.
