I've come to hate push carts

I love my push cart, I wish I had more opportunity to use it. Colorado courses are long with frequent elevation changes so most often it's a requirement to ride. I don't mind carrying either, I use a Ping Hoofer (2018) it's a great carry bag, however I find walking with a push cart very relaxing, I have been using it more with my daughter as we are beginning to play more of the courses she will see in high school and these courses tend to be more walker friendly.

Agree 100% but especially with the added water container during hot days. I loved carrying my bag but I am too old for that now, so being able to walk to the apron edge and leave my push cart or bag is second best. Yep, youth today tends to be "lazy", it's sad. But they have strong finger tips.

In the UK "push carts" are far less popular than Electric trollies! Our course is pretty hilly so you can always tell if you see a push cart then the player is a visitor!

Best invention recently for this winter season has been electric heated gloves connected to the trolley's USB port - different temperature settings available for perfectly warmed hands! Nice work Mr. Motocaddy !!!

61 YO carried until last year. I got a four wheel push cart, much better, not only can I carry more stuff, multiple water/Gatorade bottles, energy bars for the whole foursome, rain gear, etc, the best advantage for me is I can jog between shots with a cart. Can't run carrying a bag.

I changed to a cart because my bag while light with two straps always caused me to lean to one side which gave my back problems. I have a cheap push cart and my course is very hilly so it has been a little challenging, but I don't mind the physical exertion as long as my back feels good. On the flat areas I generally switch around from pulling and pushing and changing arms. Having the cart allows me to carry more water and things more comfortably.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

 

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

Mostly, I use an electric trolley that's remote controllable. I have a Clicgear 4, which I like, but don't use that much because I mostly play on a hilly course where the electric is far easier to deal with. Being able to walk and let my arms swing naturally with the electric is a plus, along with not having to economize that much on what I bring with me, even if I'm not one to load up on extras.

 

I wish I could carry more often than I do. On a hilly course, pushing a cart is a pain. There's something simple and direct about carrying, walking to wherever I want and need to go, not having to focus on navigating whatever type of cart as I traverse the course. But I'm 65 and slim of build. Carrying just takes too much of a toll on me at this point. I can do it, but I start to tire and stiffen with too much of the round remaining. Just isn't worth it anymore when playing 18.

Ive got a SM 2.5 carry bag and a CG4.  Its been quite a while since ive used the CG even though its a great push cart.  I just love carrying and the SM is so light.  Ive got it so Ive got a smalll sand container that I put in the water bottle holder and I carry half a bottle of water / staminade in one of the other pockets that I just keep refilling as I go around the course.  This keeps the weight down.  Something about carrying is just so good.  I am surprised but I am less fatigued with this approach that pushing the CG for 18.  I guess Im taking more direct routes and Im in good posture all the time.  I plan to keep the CG for when it gets over 30 degrees and I want the umbrella for shade and to carry more fluids.  Also when it looks like rain so I can use the umbrella holder.

I guess I'm going the other way. I usually use a power cart, but I think of switching to a push cart but mostly for budget reasons.

One of the few good things to come out of covid for me is that it forced me to rediscover walking the course, push cart or not.   Unless a cart is mandatory or included in the fee, I always walk.

 

As pointed out, push carts aren't perfect, but what is?   Going up or downhill I find that it helps to get the handle lower, even if it means tilting onto just the 2 rear wheels.   

 

The added weight of the push cart (and whatever extras one brings along) does take a greater toll on the lower body, but I find that carrying is harder on the upper back/shoulder.
