I have a set of S56 irons in my backup bag in my apartment in California. I spend a couple of weeks a month out there so I have basically an entire bag of 6 or 7 year old clubs. I have a set of 15 year old KZG ZO blades that I play with from time to time.

I dug out my dad's old Hogan Precisions manufactured in England around 1956 and with Slazenger on the sole. Also played with his Hogan Speed Slot laminated woods. Clubs all had Hogan "4" shafts, so pretty stiff for me at 68 years old.

Bulk of collection are irons from 1990 to 2001. Started game in late 80's, so desired clubs lay there. Baggers been, 1990 Maruman SZ's, 99 Hogan Apex and Titleist 681's. Newer sets include FG59's and VR Pro II. Like traditional clubs so there is little advantage to upgrade of new models. Shaft and weight configuration really determines utility of clubs, especially in MB's. Optimizing those aspects are where my focus lies now.

After my Dad passed away in 2017- I collected up his clubs went through the stock. Aside from the antique and collectible stuff, he had a full Iron set of TaylorMade Technicians, circa 1985. I took the collectibles and the Technicians to add to my collection. I tried the Technicians for a round or two and really liked them. But the grips were a bit worn so I didn't get a "real" feel for the clubs. Maybe next season I'll regrip them and really give them a workout.

Regripping makes a massive difference. You can't judge a club properly if you hit it with some worn, hard, slippery grip.

They weren't original grips, I think he had them done a few years before but he hadn't played much since he got them. So they weren't in the worst shape, just not quite in prime shape. Plus they were Tour Wraps (I like them, just haven't used them in a while) and I wasn't used them at all.

I used a set of 1999 Hogan Apex plus irons for the last 2 months of my golf season. this year. I did reshaft the set 4-pw with Xcalibur TourX 95 shafts though.

Have nothing but an MP-32 7 Iron i found in my dad's garage and re-gripped. I like taking it to the range to practice with and every once in a while it makes an appearance on the course for fun.

Mizuno MP 14's. Been using them for 22 years. Never thought about changing them. I like the look of newer equipment but not how they play. If I could get a nice set of new Mizunos with the old loft and lie angles I probably would do it. I do not like the modern iron sets at all.

For the last few months it’s been almost strictly my 1953 Macgregor 259T Byron Nelson irons, but I’ve switched in a set of 1949 H&B Powerbilt 8990 DTC irons a few times as they are a lot of fun too.

 

Woods? 1963 Wilson Staffs, 1952 Powerbilt Model 500’s, 1959 Stan Thompson Customs, 1968 Powerbilt 807’s, 1953 Macgregor M75’s... you name it.
