Goes to character, ask his college teammates about his they will tell you he is a thief and a cheater. https://www.golfchannel.com/article/golf-central-blog/reed-accused-cheating-stealing-book-excerpt

Pepper, I would normally agree with you, and I defended PR in some previous threads, but the video evidence here seems pretty damning. At this point in time PR needs to exhibit integrity above and beyond the norm. It's one thing to have a I don't give a S*&$# what others think mentality, it's another to push the boundaries of right and wrong on a consistent basis.

A thought I have is how would anybody expect to get away with anything? Every move a golfer makes while playing is monitored by someone or something. Does PR think that nobody would catch it? It really doesn't reflect kindly on his wisdom or intelligence. With that being said, he is a great compliment to any sort of team play. He has the makeup that allows him not to be afraid of anything or anybody.

Blah, blah.

Happy to see the link in this thread (wasn't watching the event), and wouldn't have known it was an issue for him in the past without the link to the video from a few years ago.

You are painting with too broad a brush.

Not biased to say he violated the rule and flagrantly. Not biased to say he's done it before. No conjecture going on about that. Some didn't like him before, so what, they are entitled to those opinions. I never liked the anonymous stuff that certain folks would use as a platform for their stories and books about his past, and filtered that accordingly. My opinion of him as a pro has actually changed a bit as a result of this, my prerogative.

Cheating seems to have followed Patrick Reed since his college days. Sucks when there are cheaters out there. I've been playing golf long enough and have seen plenty of them. But under that scrutiny, you're dumb to think you could do something this shady (twice) and get away with it.

This is terrible timing for President's Cup too. Tiger is probably like really dude....... If this was a Ryder Cup, it'd be even a bigger deal!

Nope NOT painting with a broad brush. Posts are pretty clear. It's ALL after-the-fact conjecture because he accepted responsibility and the penalty, so it's done. He didn't fight the penalty. Ugly bias is what drives hatred and someone to assume intent when intent can never be known without the accused admitting to intent. Nobody can read minds.

No doubt it is after the fact, lol.

He didn't have any choice but to "accept" the penalty - how would he fight it, exactly?

Nothing inherently ugly about talking about what is seen on the video or his reactions to the penalty.

I think he flat out cheated and he knew what he was doing and could plainly see the sand he was tossing back with his wedge. Ugly bias? Hatred? Nope.

Your problem should not be with Bernhard Langer or Scott McCarron. Your problem is with the rule that way that it was written.

I have a problem with that rule, as written, myself. But you can't call Langer a cheater.

Rule 10.1b and it's predecessor adequately addressed the problems which they sought to solve. The vast majority of the "Rules world" is happy with the Rule and find no problems with enforcing it. Right now the Rule says: In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either, directly, by holding the club or a gripping hand against any part of the body (except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm), or indirectly, through use of an “anchor point,” by holding a forearm against any part of the body to use a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club. If the player’s club, gripping hand or forearm merely touches his or her body or clothing during the stroke, without being held against the body, there is no breach of this Rule. (For the purposes of this Rule, “forearm” means the part of the arm below the elbow joint and includes the wrist.)

Give us your words for Rule 10.1b. Who knows, you could become famous?

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

There is no doubt he was trying to improve his lie. If he would have just been a man and owned up to it this would have blown over. As it is, this is going to follow him around forever.

Good grief. Yes, I understand. I do not live under a rock in the golf world. I am not defending what he did, and yes his past is largely irrelevant to me relative to what I was posting about.

I'm not arguing with you.

McIlroy says it wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't Patrick Reed. He also says it was wrong, but the obviousness of it makes it seem like there was no intent. More like he was on autopilot for pre-shot routine. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/rory-mcilroy-on-patrick-reed-controversy-wouldnt-be-a-big-deal-if-it-wasnt-patrick-reed
