Reeds scrape away

This should be epic. See if Reed feeds off this if the crowds jeer him

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/28250835/international-team-predicts-tough-patrick-reed-presidents-cup

"If you make a mistake maybe once, you could maybe understand but to give a bit of a bulls--- response like the camera angle ... that's pretty up there [inexcusable]," Aussie Cam Smith told reporters at the Australian Open, adding that he expects spectators to taunt Reed over the incident.

"I hope so," Smith said. "I don't have any sympathy for anyone that cheats.

I hope not; that’s the risk you take in sports gambling. What about the fan who has money on Reed losing and yells in the middle of an important putt?

It's just different depending on the game/sport.

Each has it's own culture and nuances regarding what is acceptable and what is not.

Golf is very unique and has objective rules that every player knows you are supposed to follow. In golf, everyone knows that intentionally cheating is a huge no-no.

Remember, the key distinction, in golf it is fairly easy to cheat with no one ever finding out.

In team sports the infractions are more visible and refs act as police.

In golf, someone can easily cheat by improving their lie in the woods with no one around, etc.

So, there is a much bigger emphasis on honesty. Without player honesty, professional golf could fall apart.

Someone help me out on the rules violation. You can move pine needles from behind your ball as long as the ball doesn’t move, but you can’t move loose soil (ie what’s in a “waste bunker”) from behind your ball. Pine needles are a loose impediments because pine needles are detached from their original position on a tree. But most pine needles on a golf course didn’t drop down from a tree right above the player. Like sand, they are added to the course by a architect or a superintendent.

Loose impediments are defined in the Definitions section of the Rules.

Relief from loose impediments is covered in Rule 15 (and a special case in Rule 13.1c)Loose Impediment Any unattached natural object such as:

Stones, loose grass, leaves, branches and sticks,

Dead animals and animal waste,

Worms, insects and similar animals that can be removed easily, and the mounds or webs they build (such as worm casts and ant hills), and

Clumps of compacted soil (including aeration plugs).Such natural objects are not loose if they are:

Attached or growing,

Solidly embedded in the ground (that is, cannot be picked out easily), or

Sticking to the ball.Special cases:

Sand and Loose Soil are not loose impediments (except on the putting green R13.1c)

Dew, Frost and Water are not loose impediments.

Snow and Natural Ice (other than frost) are either loose impediments or, when on the ground, temporary water, at the player’s option.

Spider Webs are loose impediments even though they are attached to another object.https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules/rules-2019/rules-of-golf/rules-and-interpretations.html#!ruletype=fr&section=definitions&subrulenum=34

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Uh, no...unfortunately this falls into the “fool me once...” category. Once might have been a mistake, twice is a little harder to swallow. Then to claim ignorance afterward is unthinkable.

PR owns this one.

Most aren't rushing to judgment.

We saw the replay. Repeatedly.

And it's really really really hard to believe a professional golfer wouldn't realize they were doing that with their club. And wouldn't notice that the lie changed significantly.

Logically, it just seems more likely that he's lying.

No in this case most people are probably justified to give him grief. I thought my first sentence kind of conveyed that.

Second part is just a joke. The internet is a rough place man.

This isn't his first time. Someone posted a video in earlier post of him doing the exact same thing about 4 years ago..

He's gotten pretty sneaky at it..

I would not be surprised or disappointed, if the crowd chants "Cheater" "Cheater" "Cheater" when Reed's about to hit in President's Cup..

At first, there was more heat on Phil, but long-term this might be worse for Reed because he said it was just a camera angle issue when that clearly wasn't the case. With Phil, some of the blame lied with the USGA, but Reed won't get off so easily. Not unless he wins some really important matches down the stretch in Australia.

I agree whole heartedly this time that Reed knew what he was doing and got caught. That equals cheating.

But. It still irks me that most called him a cheat way before when all they had were the words of a bunch of jealous teammates , and his over bearing wife to throw out there.

Its a lot like a guy playing the same number for 30 years and finally winning a $1k jackpot. So what? The “ I told you sos” are very weak in my opinion. And also. If Reeds a cheater then Kuchar is too. The size of the loose impediment should not matter. If Patrick had picked them one at a time it would be the exact same thing. His foul was using a tool instead of his hand if you use the Kuchar deal as a precedent.

Also have to remember the team aspect. When it’s stroke play a cheat is abhored. When it’s a team event and that cheat is on your side , they may not have a comment for the time being.

Yeah. I wasn't really disagreeing with your post.

Just going in a slightly different direction, as someone who didn't even dislike Reed before this. And still don't dislike him really. He's not important enough to dislike and I don't even know him.

But that scraping/shoveling in the bunker just speaks for itself. And then to deny any intent. He just seems like a dishonest person at this point.

Is interesting, as has been mentioned, to think about what the European Tour would be doing with this - he'd be a sittin' the President's Cup if PGA Tour had much time for dealing with this kind of stuff and dealt with an obvious cheating episode as it should be dealt with (but it really never has). But just use some Rudolph spray . . . . ;-)

In the end he probably paid his caddie fairly this week, isn't that what we all really care about?

(I think that touched all the bases).

Not by me...….Rooted against him then and every cup since...….I will root against him no matter who he plays in the Presidents cup, and it has nothing to do with this incident......Go USA, except...….I guess I should add that I base my feelings on some things I was told by someone who knows him very well.
