What's new In The Bag for your 2020

I replaced several grips end of season - tried the mid-size Golf Pride Tour Wrap on one club (old Cobra Driver) and really liked the tackiness and slightly thicker size so put it on several others....now deciding if I want to do same to new Steelhead irons but with them already feeling on heavy side with the Accra i123 shafts not sure I want to add even more weight with heavier grip.

I have UTX on a second set of clubs. Again, a decent grip, but between the two I would prefer the Z5. I like the material on the lower hand of the Z5. I would say the UTX play a little firmer.

As for durability. I don't grab my clubs with a death grip, and the durability of these have matched what I had seen when I was playing with MCC. There may be a little more degradation in the lower hand material over time, but in general I was very happy with durability. I also thought that the grip grew less slippery than the MCC over time. I initially went to the Z5 due to the cost of the MCC. Based on that alone, I wouldn't go back to the MCC.

Shoot, I have no idea how much I'll tinker with clubs. But so far what I'm planning on having in the bag is...

Titliest T100 irons

Taylormade Milled Grind 2 Wedges

We'll see whatever else is intriguing in 2020. I could end up with an entirely new bag like I did in 2019. Oops.

This will be going in for sure -- it replaces another B-17 that I used last year, but sold back to its original owner while I had this one built for me.

CRSKUNBHQU2G.jpgI'm also experimenting with a couple of new wedges:

REFSL4FELUVL.jpg

Other than that, the only thing that might be changing is the shaft in my Driver and 3-wood. I've been playing the 130 MSI Rogue Silver, but I just got the Aldila Synergy Tour Green to try out, and early results are promising. I'm definitely not changing irons, and the driving iron is pretty secure.

I've just ordered a set of T100's - four through pitching - and an 18 degree U510 and 22 degree U510. They should be here early in the new year, replacing my Titleist 755 irons 3-PW and an Adams 2 iron hybrid.

My TS2 arrived this week, with a 68g X flex Even Flow white shaft, and it's amazing. Should have upgraded from my Adams Fast 12 LS a few years ago...

Other than my driver I have had a hard time getting the most out of the top end of my bag. I play on a relatively short course and as a high handicapper have struggled with hitting my 3 wood off the deck and the reg flex shafts in my hybrid. I finally sold them and picked up a used Rogue 4 hybrid last night. Later in 2020 I will ad likely a 5 wood in between the Driver and hybrid. Might tinker with wedge set up later on too but for now, that will be it.

Good luck with the Rogue hybrid...I tested it and the Titleist 818 H1 hybrids and hit them alright but couldn't get used to the bigger squarer looking clubheads, so stuck with the Cobra F8 hybrids I picked up on sale mid summer.

Thanks, so far it have only hit it off a mat. It came down to the Rogue and a G400. A few more yards out of the rogue and similar dispersion. The used price was too good to pass up on the rogue.. I don't mind the head shape. I think I prefer the squarer head shape, especially around the toe. The face on it is a bit deeper than what it's replacing which at least visually gives me more confidence. The big thing is that I didn't hook one test shot with it. I had to really slow my tempo and swing down with my old hybrid to avoid a hook. I can swing more naturally with the rogue. Here's hoping it works outside too.

Finally found my irons. Just put an order in for MP-20 blades w/ Modus 120s. After a year with P790s, which performed OK but which brought me no joy, and after putting the Titleist 620s through their paces, I found my perfect irons in the MP-20s.

Also picked up 2 iron and 4 iron in the Titleist U-500s. LOVE those clubs. Great feel. Virtually no offset (for a long iron).

How long until spring?

About a month ago for S's n Grins, the 913 Driver went back in the bag and I don't see it leaving soon. FWs hit has gone up dramatically over the final few rounds of the year with no loss of distance. Went back to the little fade and love has ensued.

Of course, after 1 bad driving round the 913 will be back in the time out corner of the golf club room.

I finally found my setup for 2020. My latest changes are...

Replaced my SM7 wedges with the same heads but switched to the KBS Tour shaft to match my irons.Added a Titleist 818H2 hybrid 3 as alternative to my 3-iron.Replaced my M3 driver with a new M5 with 9.0° after trying the M6 with 10.5°.Only decision to made is if I will replace my AD DI shaft with the HZRDUS SmokeBall: Love the TP5 but will bring in the SNY Pro as alternative. Similar performance but half the price.

So I was planning on going into 2020 with tried and true 712 AP2, but there is a set of lightly used Cleveland CBX with TT 98 dst S300 that look so tempting. Have to trade tried and true to do it....

I like the gapping on the CBX and I've had them in graphite R for trial, the shafts weren't for me so I didn't keep them. Thinking in light weight steel they might fit the bill.

Mental gymnastics are strong this a.m.

Picked up a set of i200’s with AWT 2.0 S to try/ compare to the JPX 900 Forged I’ve been playing the past couple years. Like the look and increased forgiveness, unsure about the loss of distance. May have them bent to power spec lofts, or stay with the JPX.

Also picked up some Glide wedges to replace my RTX3’s. Definitely keeping the PING’s, much better feel and prefer the look at address.

Winter is still young here in Iowa, so probably more eBay options before spring.

Pulled the trigger on some monogramed ProV1x's! That's about it. Got the TS3 last year and nothing has changed. I may get some MP-20 blades this year, but only because the 7-8-9 irons are starting to wear out.

I can't compare with the Cobra.

I really like the 818H2. It really depends on the shaft. Tried the Tensei blue which feels great in my fairway wood. But it felt terrible in the hybrid.

I normally don't like hybrids. But the 818H2 is very close to an iron...
