Is this still broken for real? What is the value of this robust of a database if you can’t search it? Even if I manipulate it and add some filters I will only get half a dozen results and most all of them render the same thread

use the advanced search link and it will do everything you need. It also allows you to select only topics/discussions so all of the results aren’t from the same thread

Odd. I just tested it out again. I entered p790 (something im interested in), unchecked everything but discussions, and got over 1000 results/threads all listed in order from today back

The fix for that has not been applied yet.

Don't type "exo" there.

Hit advanced search first and on the NEXT page type "exo".

Not sure what I’m doing wrong here. You uncheck everything and select search. When the results pop up all of the boxes are checked. Uncheck them and do it again and then end up all checked.

I know they meant well, but there nothing Intuitive or user friendly about the UX of the site

Now I'm not saying I KNOW this is how it works but pretend you are a computer programmer.

Someone tries to run a search, as you just did, and unchecks ALL the boxes and then clicks "Search".

What categories (or whatever) would you, as the programmer, assume they wanted to search ? Isn't the user actually saying "I don't want to search anything" ? Of course he is,,,,, which makes NO sense.

So, with the user not selecting ANYTHING, the "safe" default would be for the programmer to assume/default that the user wants to search EVERYWHERE, They surely don't want to search "nowhere". So the programmer makes the software check everything and then searches - just as it did for you.

Unfortunately I don’t need to pretend, I work for a software provider and frequently cross-function with developers and UX professionals. The answer is elasticsearch.

Looks like the advanced search is working again. I typed in "cameron" as you did in your screenshot above and unchecked everything except discussions, and got back over 1000 threads

Yep it shows 100+ but the page only renders 9 threads and there’s no way to get to the rest.

like wouldn’t it be kind of intuitive to have like a “next page” somewhere?

Just like it would be intuitive to have an edit function next to the like and quote..so I could change my post from 100+ to 1000+ like it should say.

For me, it shows all of the pages and i can click on each of them and scroll through. to edit your post, click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner

Edited to add- it shows me all of the pages on my desktop- on my iPhone- it only does it if i turn the phone to landscape

so the gear only gives me the edit option. If that’s all it’s good for why is it even there. Every other forum platform plus the legacy platform has it visible where it would intuitively be.

i only use the site on my phone, so the landscape tip is super helpful, even if the lack of scalability and UX is completely dumb af.

No, you did not answer my question. And there's no need for me to google anything.

Now that's just good comedy. The platform is packaged and sold by a company in business for 10 + years. They'd hardly be in business that long if it was a complete POS.

Counter-intuitive ? LOL. ANY new board one gets on is "counter-intuitive", TO THEM, until they get used to it. Even the same platform in its many different flavors has its differences that one has to get used to.

And the "basic functions of the site" work just fine although I'll grant you there's no real reason I can think of why the programmers can't get the search to work right from the small drop down the first time rather than having to hit "Search" or "Advanced search" and then re-entering the search criteria. That would seem to be a relatively easy fix yet it hasn't worked for a long time (if it ever did).

And the "Within" date range never has worked properly.

But the "basic search function", as well as most of the rest of the board, works just fine. It just doesn't work quite the way most of us are used to it working on other sites.

I think there are a lot of things that are frustrating that I don’t understand about this software but I can just deal with. The fact that they are coming close to a year into this with still so many issues and functions that this site needs That aren’t there shows they were either got poor information from vanilla on what could be done with this platform or didn’t ask the right questions (feedback in particular) or they don’t have the capabilities to program it
i still remember @easyyy posting that this new experience would blow us away. Now it seems like that won’t happen but if they can just fix some of these issues it would suffice
overall, I love golf and the site (it’s why we are all still here), I have just never seen a message board change go so poorly

there’re plenty of other stable out-of-the-box platforms out there. It appears they got sold on a one off, under the cover of robust capabilities and a rich user experience

Is the search function working what would be correctly for everyone else? When I search for something, like in the classifieds, the results are not being put in chronological order. Posts from March are showing up before posts the more recent May posts. Did not show up that way previously from what I remember.

No.

There seems to be a little progress but the overall functionality including results, is still POOR.

Some results are missing and, as you mention, the results are definitely not ordered from latest to earliest. Then again, it's not clear to me whether the ordering date is the date the topic was started or the date the last post was made (I would think the latter but,,,,,).

The "little progress" (AFAIS) is that when clicking on the spyglass, entering the "search" argument and the author then clicking on "Search" actually seems to work now. Clicking on "Advanced Search" does NOT. So, a little progress. Baby steps ? LOL
