Is T100 really a 718CB Replacement?

I have been thinking about this, and I think these two irons more closely resemble each other than the AP2 does to the T100 or the 718CB does to the 620CB.

Both are forged body, tungsten in heal/toe, very little offset, blade like top-line and length, thin faceplate, tungsten 3-7, etc...

How are these not the obvious comparison? Am I missing something?

Yes you are. You're missing that Titleist has come out and said the T100 is the AP2 replacement. The 718 CB, 718 AP2, and 620CB all have tungsten in them. You are overthinking it.

Not to nitpick.. but Titleist has been explicit in saying that T100 does not replace AP2. 620CB is single piece forged excluding the 3-4 iron. No faceplate or tungsten in the 5-7. But the T100 spec sheet reads almost exactly like the 718 CB.

In my limited experience, T100 is in between AP 2 and CB.

Totally incorrect, every review of them online the reviewer indicates that they have been told not to compare them to the AP2.

Even still, I would seriously doubt it is the CB replacement when they have a CB that is very similar in size, shape, and offset, featuring the same tech as previous (714+) models. The T100 may not be the direct AP2 replacement, but it sure is the closest to the AP2 in what they presently have.

T100 is the AP2 replacement. You don’t need to be the love child of Dr. Joyce Brothers and Sherlock Holmes to deduce the “...don’t compare to AP2...” was all about branding and getting the masses to move beyond the emotional trauma brought about by the demise of the AP2 line rather than any comment on the design objectives of the club.

I have them and I dare to say that they are a direct replacement to the AP2. And maybe slightly easier to hit?

Anyone hit the T100 in a DG S300 opposed to the AMT White? I really like the look of the T100 but the AMT didn't work with me. Dispersion wasn't what I liked to see. I normally game the DG S300, which is why I'm asking.

I have T100 with S400 coming from 714 ap2’s with s300.

You won’t regret it. T100 is fantastic

Being a CB player with experience with the CB and AP series, it's definitely not a replacement for the CB series in my opinion - multi-material iron with plenty of tungsten that is the next generation of the AP2. It is in-between the old AP2 and CB though, with its reduced offset, thinner topline, and higher CG.

I ordered mine with DG S300. Didn't like the progressive weighting of the AMT White. Love the combo. Got them at the end of last season (Chicago) so I only got a handful of rounds in, but the performance is exactly what I was looking for. I came from the AP2 with DG S300.

I’m starting to think that OP may be right. T120 incoming which is a stronger lofted progressive set of T100.

Regardless of what Titleist says, the T100's are essentially the new AP2's. I replaced my 718 AP2's with the T100's when they came out. The performance is extremely similar with refinements in look and feel. When I was fit for the 718 line, I hit both the AP2 and the CB. The T100's may look and feel like a cross between the 718 AP2's and CB's but the performance (forgiveness, flight, spin and distance) is in line with what I expect from an AP2.

I am well aware that the T100 were intended to be the AP2 replacement, regardless of what Titleist asked their reviewers to say.

But.. 718 CB had average 70g tungsten, faceplate, thin topline, little offset. The faceplate may be thinner in the T100, but the blade length and lack of offset more matches the CB (this is in the shorter irons). I'm aware that the longer irons, say 5i and up, the sole on the T100 gets a bit wider and is more in line with the AP2. That's all I was saying..

mxskier - I think you make a good point. I believe I have heard that Titleist thought the 716/718 CB’s with perimeter weighting and tungsten we’re blurring the line with AP2 and they wanted to get back to a true CB with more characteristics and feel of an MB.

Ironically, I played the 718 ap2 for the past 2 years, was fitted into the T100 in October and recently found a great deal online for the 718 CB’s that I’ve been lusting after for 2 years. Just in looking down at the club from address, the T100 and CB are more similar than the T100 and AP2. Similar size and offset while the lofts and technology of the AP2 and T100 are more similar. To me the T100 is a blend of the other two.
