Best Courses In/Around Phoenix

Hey Guys,

I am currently living in Ohio, but will be making a trip out to Phoenix/Scottsdale for the Waste Management Open at the end of January (it has always been a dream of mine to go there so I might as well while I am single and have more money lol). I am planning on spending one day golfing wherever I can and then two days watching the tournament (hopefully I can get into the 16th hole sometime). I would appreciate any advice or help I can get!

Heading out there in January for a weekend myself. For my "headline" round, after scouting around I decided to play We Ko Pa Saguaro over WKP Cholla, the Troon North courses, Big Wick and Quintero.

For my ClubCorp "$20 round," I chose Anthem Persimmon over Seville, as Anthem Ironwood was booked up.

We Ko Pa seemed like a great choice! I am in kind of the same boat where I want to play one "nicer" course and then another course that's more reasonable! I appreciate it again!

We-Ko-Pa Saguaro.

Best public access course in the state IMO.

Played Quintero and it was amazing. Did replay and played 36 and just stayed there all day. Views are incredible and it is a fun course. Way out there though.

I also recommend Quintero, very dramatic layout. I thought it was a challenge, but very fair if you play the right tees for your game. I played there in November and conditions were excellent. Low on the amenities, they just have a temporary clubhouse but they are very accommodating. It really is out in the middle of nowhere, though. At least 45 minutes from TPC.

I'd agree if Wickenburg didn't exist. Big Wick is so PURE and such a fun layout to play.

I love Saguaro and it was my favorite until I discovered Wick. My only issue with Saguaro is that there are a few holes which are repetitive.

Quintero is a good golf trip course but not an actual good course if that makes any sense. One of those courses that is cool to play once on a golf trip because it's unique, dramatic, and pretty. But once you peel the layers back and actually think about it, it's a pretty horrendous design.

I would also argue the 'fair' comment. If you played it when it's soft, wet and a little slow, sure, maybe it's fair. But go play it in March when it's dry and theres a little wind. You're opinions will change greatly.

We-Ko-Pa is great. Highly recommend, best conditions for a public IMO. Don't sleep on the Cholla course, it is great as well. It was build prior to Saguaro.

About six years ago I was at Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass resort just a couple miles south of Phoenix in Chandler. Very nice and the Web.com tour played there. Full resort with 2 courses, casino and entertainment.

Always surprised that Ak Chin (Southern Dunes) is left out of this discussion. An excellent course although it is a distance.

I appreciate all of the help! Just a couple of weeks away from the trip and now I have many choices, so I will have to decide which ones to go with!

I will be out there the same week. Flying out on Wednesday, playing golf on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Going to the WMO on Friday.

We are playing Gold Canyon on Thursday, WKP Saguaro Saturday, and Grayhawk Raptor on Sunday.
