New FlightScope Mevo+ (MERGED)

Recommended Posts

Has anybody had any issues with hitting full sand or lob wedges with the Mevo Plus?  I am a little concerned that I will need to stand reasonably close to the net, and might not be able to have the proper distance from ball to net for it to register.  For reference, thinking about putting a 60 inch TV at a 45 degree angle left of the net and using a Net Return Pro Series 2 net.  Appreciate any responses on this.

I've got the Net Return Pro Series 2 net in my garage setup, with 7 ft from Mevo+ to ball, and about 10 ft from ball to net. Hitting a full or high trajectory 58° is a no-go, as it's easy to send a ball over the front crossbar. I'm planning to add the 'No-Fly Zone' attachment in the near future, because I'd like to maintain as much ball flight distance as possible.

Just looked on their website and saw it was an attachment to their pro series net.  Looks like a good add, but still wondering if it will work with the Mevo and a high lofted club.  I’ll give them a call to see.

The crossbar for the Net Return Pro Series 2 is 7.5 ft high; if your ball-net distance is 10 ft, a little trig shows that any ball launching at an angle greater than about 37° will travel over the crossbar.

Obviously, an individual's launch angle will depend on the club head loft, dynamic loft, and angle of attack. But I don't think that it's unreasonable to see launch angles greater than 37° when hitting 58° - 60° lob wedges.

If you're putting in a home setup, go ahead and plan on sending a few outside the net area and into the wall, will make it easier to account for later!

Minor rant ahead: sent my Mevo+ back to Flightscope after the red band was stained black from the case they shipped it with. A small nuisance but not acceptable for a $2k product. They sent it back with what looks like temporary foam for the lining. What a joke.

Maybe life is good if this is what bothers me, but c'mon Flightscope.

I can’t comment on balls hit into a net but, at a range, spin and spin axis are generally solid.  I’ve put my Mevo+ side-by-side with a Trackman 4 on two occasions and the numbers were remarkably similar.  AoA is more dependent on physical set-up of the unit than TM.  You must be on level ground, or adjust the settings in the FS Golf app.  Even then, sometimes I get odd AoA numbers with irons.

Once you use the unit for awhile, you learn to recognize bad reads.  For example, occasionally the unit gives you carry distance immediately upon impact, without other data.  That’s an obvious misread.  Others misreads are more subtle.  But even Trackman gets it wrong sometimes (e.g., doubling spin numbers) and it costs 12x as much.

One data point I see the Mevo+ getting wrong more than I would like is “shot shape.”  Because the unit does not give you face angle and path numbers, “shot shape” should be a way reverse engineer basic face-to-path.  But I’ve seen a hook presented as a push, a block listed as a draw, and so forth.  That’s not fatal for me because I use my Mevo+ outside and can see ballflight.  But for someone using the unit as a simulator or into a net, that might be a no-go.

I think that, as long as you recognize the limitations of the Mevo+ (considering its price point) and honestly evaluate if you will be happy with those limitations, you will be fine.

How often are you seeing misreads on shot shape? I think the biggest selling point for the Mevo+ is accurate indoor ball flight including shot shape for $2000. If the shot shape and spin axis can't be trusted then forget it...

Someone using Mevo+ as a Sim is probably better qualified than me to answer that. Because I can see my ball flight, I only occasionally look at the shot shape - and that's only when I mishit and want to look at Mevo+ data to see what happened, if I can't already feel the cause of the miss.

I guess if I had to answer, I would say "More than I would like (I want near-perfect), but well-within what I consider acceptable for the cost of this unit."  But, again, if  was seriously working on my game indoors (vs. just having fun on a Sim) and I was getting bad data that made me think my swing was off . . . I might be more concerned.  Of course, I also occasionally get bad data on a $25k TrackMan 4, so . . .

For those using Mevo plus as a simulator only through an Ipad, would be interested in any tips on screen size, projector etc...Distance not a problem, will be in the third bay of garage, and am building an enclosure.  Would like to do this without buying a gaming computer, because I have heard the Flightscope apps included are IOS only.  Have an IPad Pro, so hoping quality of image is OK, but know it won’t be as good as a gaming PC.  Thanks!

You can output an iPad to a projector or a large tv. I’d get the smallest iPad Pro from last generation and a TCL tv if you do t want to go the projector/screen route.

Thanks, that is actually what I am trying to figure out.  I could go Ipad to TV off to the side, or a projector.  Think I would prefer a projector as it would be nice to look directly at the target on sim, but TV might work as well

I just put up my screen and projector a few weeks ago. I’m using an iPad Air (gen 4) and Optoma GT1080HDR. Once I figured everything out it turned out great. My only issue is the projector doesn’t have horizontal keystones and because I couldn’t mount it perfectly center there is slight distortion. My screen size is 11.5’ wide x 10’ tall. I’ll try and post a picture this evening when I get home.

Are the readouts through the Mevo + or through the connected device? For instance, could I use my earbuds via my iPhone and get the readings, so everyone else at the range will not constantly hear the Mevo talking?

Yes, readout is via your connected device.

Through connected device.  I use my AirPods to listen to music while I practice and Mevo+ will tell you 1 data parameter through AirPods (or whatever) at the same time.  For example, I prop my iPhone up so I can see all the data parameters in the FS Golf app and, at the same time, listen to music via my iPhone.  When I hit a shot, Mevo+ will give a single data point (e.g., carry distance) also through AirPods over the music.

Another bonus, if you have an Apple Watch, is that there is an FS Golf watch app.  You can change clubs (significantly more convenient than you might initially think) and see several data parameters on your Apple Watch.

I find shot shape is accurate most of the time with what I would expect based on the feel of the swing.  Setup is really important.  Making sure the camera is aligned every time you use the unit and making sure roll is set to 0 degrees gives the best results.

I'm getting ready to order a mevo plus - is there any reason to pick one retailer over another?  They all seem to have the same wait times and the same prices.  The only difference I've been able to see is that a couple places offer free shipping and flightscope charges for shipping.

I ordered from Top Shelf Golf.
Free shipping and no sales tax.
ordering directly from flightscope would have cost me another $153.00 in sales tax and shipping.

Are the current 6 to 8 week lead times accurate? Is it more realistically 5 weeks or 10 weeks?

Has anyone tried the buying metallic stickers from ebay?  None of the 3rd party mevo+ retailers seem to carry them.  Ebay sellers claim they're identical but for all I know they could just be silver stickers and not metallic.

On Golf Sim Forum, there's been at least one person that has used those I'm pretty sure with good results.

Mulling over Skytrack vs Mevo Plus. I’d likely be hitting into a net in front of a garage door, which will be an issue unless I do something to reflect/deflect the radar wave. I need to add foam insulation to the garage panels for comfort and sound and have found some the are foil/foam/vinyl. I’ll put the vinyl toward the Mevo Plus if I go with that unit. Any Mevo plus users have any experience with a garage sim like this.

Currently, that's my setup. I'll eventually make a more dedicated space, but right now, it works great.

I have a Spornia net right in front of the insulated garage door, and it causes no issues in misreads for me in my environment. I'm not sure which material is the insulation though, sorry.

This past week, I also added a budget projector so I can see the image on the net/white screen, and luckily the fan hasn't added any interference that messes with the unit. I'm on firmware 0.16.

Thanks for the reply. I might invest in a Net Return net and will just use a TV on a cart with and iPad as the interface for now since the garage will still have cars in it, so I’ll need to break down the set up regularly.

No problem.

That's what I do, I set it up and break it down each time I use it, since there's cars. The iPad and TV is a solid way to do it 😀
