2020 LPGA Season Odds and Ends

Evian Championship is scheduled for August 6-9; but of course there're travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

France is expected as of July 15:

"France has announced a voluntary quarantine for all non-European arrivals and is working on producing a list of countries outside Europe that it considers 'high risk' for Covid-19. As things stand at the moment, the infection rate in the USA means it is likely the country would be on this list."

It can still be an issue.

Beth Ann Nichols is good with inside information; the dates for Marathon Classic is still fluid.

"Right now, the LPGA’s return in Sylvania, Ohio, is scheduled for July 23-26, but with the LPGA’s upcoming three-tournament swing in France and Scotland uncertain due to quarantine restrictions, that date could change, Silverman said. News about the Evian Championship, Aberdeen Investment Standards Ladies Scottish Open and AIG Women’s British Open is expected this week.“I don’t think the commissioner wants us to play and then have three or four weeks off before the next tournament,” said Silverman, “that doesn’t make much sense.”

Separate, please! Marathon Classic set to lead the LPGA's return with fans

If the Scotland events proceed, they might have to give some perks to the established players to show up. I'm not sure if I was set financially and with my status on tour that I would lock myself in a hotel room for 2 weeks to play 2 weeks and potentially have to quarantine again getting back into another country after the events. I would probably consider it a lost season play some events where I can and put my focus on the end of the year and all the US events to finish the schedule, use the fall of 2020 and the whole 2021 season with Xmas break in between as my focus on keeping my card or retain my status. After the British you have 7 events in 8 weeks assuming no other cancellations in the US and then a 4 event Asian swing which I think could be problematic as they are in China, Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan. Japan could be easy entry for all player because they've taken a much more relaxed approach to the pandemic. We then end 2020 with 4 events in 5 weeks in the US before the Xmas break. I can see many players only playing the 11 US/NA events and not bother with all the various rules and restrictions with International travel and start fresh in 2021. I also imagine some of the Korean players might decide to stick in Korea and play the KLPGA all season and possibly just come to the US for the final 4 events and play the US Open and maybe earn their way into the CME.

I agree, I think the other 2 Euro events will be cancelled. It could be that the Commish has taken an informal poll of who would show up for the 3 events and perhaps the field they would have might be, shall we say lackluster for 2 Majors and it's better optics to cancel them. I think the Aberdeen event is still doable but instead make it an LET event this season, you'll probably get some good Euro LPGA players to attend also.

LPGA announced on May 20, 2020 that 2020 and 2021 would be combined for player priority and other purposes.

It's a clear indication at that time that 2020 season won't be credible; that they would play less than 20 tournaments this year.

They'll play a total of 16 tournaments, including 3 majors, if they don't cancel any more North American events from now on.

Being played at my home course and I'm working the scorer's table. Really fun interacting with these girls as they are turning in their scorecards. Wind was really strong today and it's supposed to be even stronger tomorrow out of a completely different direction. Maria Fassi and Brittany Lang both shot 2 over par 74. Alexa Pano, who at age 15 has played in 5 major championships, is very impressive to watch.
