No surprise, but wow, they really can't seem to catch a break.

Was planning to play Thirteenth Beach tomorrow so that I have a bit of a feel of the course before the ISPS Handa Vic Open in case I go and watch. The mixed gender event is kind of interesting even if there are not many big names in the field. Plus, the attendance is really cheap.

The downside is that it's about 1:30h drive from where I live and I have to get across Melbourne which can be a total pain on the weekdays and may add an hour to the travel time. Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day the course is open to the public before the tournament. I've played it a few times a long time ago so don't really remember much of it.

Turns out tomorrow will be 100 degrees F and strong wind. Will give that a miss. The weather will cool down by the tournament, though, but the current forecast is that the wind will pick up which is not unusual at that part of Victoria. The courses in the Torguay region are mostly nicely exposed links courses. Especially the afternoon groups may get a fair bit of wind. Current forecast is winds 10-25mph with gusts up to 40mph during the tournament.

Note to self: Must not leave the car parked in the sun. 54 degrees C is about 130 degrees F.

yes, this is very true, even you guys recognize this... Bianca has always been underrated back in the Philippines, and even in her amateur days internationally... time will tell who'll be more successful in golf, health permitting... personally, at least academically, Bianca already has the edge, but we're talking golf in this forum... because Bianca has yet to really play in an LPGA event (unless you count her Marathon Classic appearance where she made the cut), hard to get sponsor invites as she has a lower "profile" than Yuka (for now)

These ladies chose ANA over Augusta Women's Amateur Championship

"The tournament traditionally invites a handful of amateurs to compete in the event, and announced that lineup on Wednesday. Rose Zhang (Stanford commit), Kaitlyn Papp (Texas), Gabriela Ruffels (Southern California), Olivia Mehaffey (Arizona State) and Angelina Ye (Stanford) will all compete April 2-5 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, among a strong LPGA field."

ANA Inspiration's amateur invites include two USGA champions, No. 1-ranked junior

I'm not sure. I don't know where the virus cases are in Thailand (relatively speaking , the country is large)or the nature of them (local or imported). In contrast, it's not like Sentosa is isolated or far away from the rest of Singapore. I hope it's not the case but the situation in Singapore has the potential to be much worse in 1-2 weeks time before the tournament starts.

@agolf1
It'll be different tournaments even if the tournaments aren't cancelled.

"The top two players in the world are skipping the limited-field events in Thailand and Singapore. Jin Young Park’s manager confirmed that World No. 1 will be starting her season in Phoenix March 19-22 at the Volvik Founders Cup, saying that she needed more time to prepare for the season and that the coronavirus played a role in her decision.
Sung Hyun Park, currently No. 2 in the Rolex Rankings, will also miss the first six events of 2020. Park’s manager said the decision to postpone wasn’t entirely due to the coronavirus."

Jin Young Park? I guess we can't expect a writer for GolfWeek to know the #1 woman player in the world. Oy.

I love the "need more time to prepare" part of the answer. Maybe it's partly true but it doesn't seem like the main factor (neither dismiss the virus completely in their reasoning). Either way it is fine. They are entitled to do whatever they want, and the decision to skip is probably the smart one.

Probably right. Singapore is #1 outside of China for cases now. I haven't seen much on the Korean situation but I think it is a very sensitive thing in Japan. Personally, I would not transit around these places if don't have to do so right now. I was thinking about all the places where players go, take photos, etc here in SG and I would avoid all of them like the plague right now.

I was also wondering if some Chinese played are trapped in China right now. I.e due to travel bans / restrictions they cannot land anywhere. There seems to be a few playing in Australia, although they could have been practicing there or USA during the winter.

Sent a message to a friend who lives in Pattaya about the situation on the ground but didn't get a reply yet. What I hear is that the number of tourists in Thailand is down big time, as if it wasn't down enough before the virus incident already. And now there was the shopping center shooting as well.

I have a couple of projects that are not moving because of the situation in Singapore so they seem to take the situation seriously. Not much to do but wait and see I guess.

There are two LET events coming up in New South Wales after the Australian Women's Open but I'm not sure whether the LPGA players are eligible to addend if the SE Asian events are cancelled (and whether they have time to register). Tournament - Ladies European Tour Tournament - Ladies European TourVery small purses on the LET events.
