Irons came in last week. The finally got a chance to get out and give them a hit a few days ago, a session in the backyard, and then a round after six weeks of poor weather, illness, and busy weekends.

LOVE the full set of 201s. I should have gone this route the first time.

It really is in my opinion. I think these sell a lot. I’d honestly love to see a breakdown of their iron sales. I reckon these are top 2/3 easy.

Fairway woods are in. Just did some initial testing by hitting into my net and they feel about the same as the prior Gen but these shafts are smooth. I’m liking the consistent feel from driver to 5 wood.

Switched up the irons, wedges are new SM9's but same grinds as the SM8's. Mainly shaft issues and I honestly am particular on how the grip, shaft, and head work and feel together so a lot of transitioning after played a round or two with some gear. Putter was benched and the Newport is back in the bag. As much as I like to flirt with variations, the Newport has been a constant throughout my ever changing bags. I also couldn't quite get over the feel of the PLD. It was just different compared to the Scotty milled feeling I am so used to. The shape was so good with the Anser D.

I have been toying with different shafts but finally decided on the ones in my woods. That really created some inconsistencies throughout the rest of the bag but the profiles all match up to what I'm currently wanting and what I've played in the past. S300s work, Mitsubishi blue profile works, and the wedge shaft in the Vokey's work well together. I've started to hit all my clubs well now that the feeling I am getting is matching up and I'm not fighting with the shafts as much.

One bad apple can spoil the bunch!

In all seriousness though I don’t know how much I’ll be adding to this post. I’ve had the revolving door of putters. That’s the one piece of gear I can’t just hang onto besides the custom TP Juno I made with my daughter’s abbreviated names.

Haha!! Don’t do it man…trust the process!

I’ve definitely tried over the last year to just enjoy the ride more and not be so hard on myself. Golf is so hard, and it’s so hard to be good. So I’m trying to enjoy the journey more and not be as tied to scores and results.

As a competitor that’s easier said than done though for sure.

Going full on one brand man. I've not done this since I was working in the industry when I played all Nike.

I just like Taylormade stuff now, which is insane because I used to think they weren't even that great. Funny.

Woods stay because they keep me from shooting over 80 and it's my strength. 😂

Irons are now look the part but have dad of two vibes.

Putter is a Spider with tech. It feels so good and my stats went up literally overnight.

Wedges have a bit more bounce and lofts to solve gappings issues.

Yeah man, it’s all about playing what works best for your game, and TaylorMade stuff is really freakin’ good!

I haven’t been able to dial in any of their recent Drivers other than the SIM2 Max, but love their Fairways, Irons, Wedges, and they make solid putters as well!

If I had to choose a full bag deal, I’d choose TM also and just throw a SIM2 Max in the Driver spot or test out the Stealth 2 line to see if I could get one of those dialed in.

Irons felt good during my round yesterday as did the wedges. I’ve got a little more bounce than usual by 1* on the 50 and 3* on the 54,58. I can really tell on full shots and in the bunker.

Irons definitely flight higher through the bag and while it’s not what I’m used to, the ball isn’t spinning out to reach its apex. It just launches and still goes the number I’d expect it to into 20mph winds. It was a true testing day with the heat, humidity, and wind we had. I went to the links course that’s short but penalizing.

I really enjoyed the TP5 as well. It seemed to just stop right where it landed on the green and I really like that.

I see you dropped the P7MC’s for P770’s huh? I made the same move recently and have absolutely no regrets whatsoever.

I did. They felt great but didn’t offer the height I needed to really attack pins. I’m not a high spin player with irons or woods but these give me height and the TP5 spins enough to land and stop instantly. I quite like that because if I need a ball to go 140, it’ll be right about there when it lands. It’s definitely different seeing the ball launch higher but it’s not spinning up high to reach its apex.

Yeah, I’m loving the P770’s too.

Just played my 3rd or 4th round with them, and once I get them dialed in they will probably end up being my favourite Irons that I’ve owned.

They feel fantastic to me, and feel like I get out of them exactly what my swing dictates that they should do.

I can comfortably say they’ll be in my bag the rest of this season, and they could end up being the only Iron set I’ve owned that stick more than 1 season!

An inside look into the ever changing putter rotation. I don’t own all these but have from the last three years.

4 stints with a Newport - 3 generations

1 with a Spider Tour (not pictured)

1 with a Squareback

1 with a Newport 2

2 with a Phantom X 5.5

1 with a Phantom X 9.5 (longest used putter)

1 with a PLD Anser D

1 go with a Tri-Hot 5k #2 (not bad)

1 with a TP Del Monte (another that was decent)

1 with a Golo 6 (couldn’t get used to the look of the shaft bend)

2 with a Spider X (got a slant neck coming because I’d hate for it to never be available again 😂)

1 that will NEVER be sold - a MyTP Juno with my daughter’s abbreviated names on it. I’ll probably get another done with LIA (Amelia) and CAMI (Camilla) on the bumpers once our second girl is born in July.

1 Spider GT Max currently in the bag

I can now honestly say that with Arccos data a mallet has proven to be the better style for me. I don’t lose as many strokes putting with a Spider. The GT was night and day performance over a Newport. I’ll just continue to be a typical WRX nutcase BUT with Spider putters. 😏

Today I shot a 69.

It marks my lowest score ever since I have begun playing golf. I started because a friend of mine wanted me to play in middle school and I think between that year and another tournament in high school, I might have played three rounds that actually counted score. Turn the page to after graduating high school and I picked it up around the age of 20. I slowly started to get hooked and two years later I began working for different golf courses and just being around the course every single day. That’s when I started to get good and shoot in the 70s consistently.

I’m now more dedicated than ever and have really started to work on certain aspects of my short game and putting. It’s really paid off along with having equipment that I truly believe in and love. It’s helped me tremendously. The past three outings have been with my current irons, new wedges, new driver shaft, and new ball. I guess you can add my putter too.

I had 26 putts today and 4 birdies. I was operating on about three hours of sleep since I had a late mid day nap the day before. I know this is more of a bread than a WITB post but so much has gone into working towards breaking 70 for so long. I’m so comfortable with my gear and playing like I knew I’ve always been capable of is truly validating. The ball change has been huge along with the irons. I went from the P7MC to the P770s and wow what a difference. Height is there and I’m attacking greens much easier now. Everything clicked today.

What made it even more special was that my best friend who introduced me to this game played alongside me today. It was super special to have him see me play like I did today. It’s bittersweet for him because I whoop him now 😂 He was such a good sport about today and even called his dad straight after the round as we rode into the clubhouse.

What a game, y’all.

Mate, I hit a 9 iron I thought was for sure short and in the water and NOPE! Hit the green and almost made another birdie on 15. They’re just really good irons. I’m loving the flight of them. They just fly and stop on a dime.
