Ordered a SIM Max Hybrid 19 degree with a Tensei Pro White. Won't have it for another month but excited in testing it against the P790 2 iron. Have always had a left miss with the hybrid but I've seen enough reviews where people aren't having that miss that I had to give it a shot.

Ordered with the Pro white but they said the shaft is back ordered till 2nd week in March, so I changed to hzrdus smoke and is shipping out today

I was able to watch that video at lunch. It's pretty entertaining to see Rory's reaction to hitting it for the first time, and then trying to hit a bunch of different shots with it.

It's been well documented this isn't a marketing ploy. I'm not sure why everyone is still on the conspiracy theory band wagon.

Marketing ploy worked on me, I’m staring out the window waiting for my Sim 3w and hybrid to show up so I can go hit them! Driver blew me away so I had to round out the top end of my bag with the matched set.

Of course what we saw was a marketing video; that doesn't mean their reactions weren't genuine, however. They were all mic'd up because this occurred at a photoshoot, it wasn't a hot mic situation that just happened to catch the conversation. Regarding Rahm: it's clear his mic wasn't added to the audio mix for the video because they wanted to emphasize the conversation between Rory and Day.

Really interesting point about tour head vs retail head. I'll be looking to see if a tour version does come out... It's been my experience that tour issue TM heads are flatter and the cg may even be possibly more forward, with open face at std loft.

All my tour heads are light weight too... Hot melt basically required to get SW in the right spot, especially if you play with shorter than retail lengths.

i saw a TM video that discussed the tour head. The head is different with a shorter face...not as tall for the amateur retail consumer. Not sure what else is different but I assume its CG

He replaced the 5 wood? that makes sense. I know DJ put one in the bag too but was hitting the 19 degree almost 300 yards. He had to go to a 22 degree and "only" hits that 265 i believe.....

Sounds right. My main reason for wanting tour issue is because like the article says, the retail heads are designed with slower swings in mind and the use of lighter weight, less stiff shafts. I assume then, tour heads are then designed around faster speeds and heavier shafts, plus the inclusion of melt.

Surprised the article mentioned TM turning around a tour head in a matter of weeks though... I would assume to actually Make a small design tweak plus validate the design... Get sign off... Make sure no new machines or tools are needed, would be on the order of magnitudes of months.

Maybe they are incredibly agile but color me a little skeptical. Unless I'm not interpretating that section of the article correctly.

I was just on the TM website and had a chat with the sales guy and asked about a Tour model. He said there is no tour model......after some debate and mention of the floridian video (which he denied seeing until i pressed him on it), he said "if there is a tour model. it's not available for any consumer".........

BUT, my question is; was the models set up for Rory and DJ a Tour model or a consumer model?

The article says they are all retail versions. That's why I made the comment about the tour issue part. It says traditionally, tour heads are used bc the van guys need to tinker each players build, which is made much easier by tour designed heads. Since Rory and DJ both had retail versions (and other staffers who then ordered them) it made their lives [in the tour van] difficult.

So he's prob right, the tour head won't come to market.... They never do. I find all mine on ebay.

got it. I misunderstood the article. I didnt think it said Rory and DJ's (in the Floridian video) were retail models. Here is what the article stated "the Rescues were built to spec and shipped off to sit in the bags of the highest-ranked tour staff in the world"

I thought it sad the tour trucks ran out of tour models and had to use retail models....which caused them pain because of the lack of hot melt ports and different hosels. but after re-reading it, i see the tour trucks all had the retail version......I just wonder if Rory's was a retail version?? the article didn't really address that at the time.

It doesn’t use them because he’s not a fan of flight they tend to provide. He’s also one that will play whatever works. Look at all the putter changes he’s been thru.

Yea. he has changed clubs and putters a ton. he uses what sponsors PAY him to use, but within that sponsorship, he does change a lot

From my interpretation of the article, a tour head was *never* designed or made... Just a retail one. The TM staff decided to build (a retail version) Rory one for kicks, and secretly place it in his bag at the launch. He hit it just for the heck of it but actually liked it. Dj then came over, hit it, liked it... Then ordered one for him. Then other guys found out and a bunch of orders came in, which lead to the whole tour van guys being overwhelmed. It mentioned something about it taking weeks to get a tour head but... In my personal experience, it takes more than just a few weeks to even make small engineering changes to things, unless they have a special process for this kind of thing where they can fast track.

That is how I interpreted it as well. Built it for the heck of it, and were surprised that it was so well received by Rory and a few others.

makes sense. Whatever the case my be (and your interpretation seems to be right), the "influencers" in that video has persuaded me to go hit the club. The last hybrid i bought was a 910H. it may be time for an upgrade

The hybrid in DJ's bag is a retail head just fyi. From my sources the company was honestly surprised at the reaction to the hybrids. They designed them to be for better players but not with intentions that it would have the attention of most tour players.
