Taylormade SIM hybrid?

Hit the 4h again but brought my 23* 818 and my 5w. The 818 was turned down to 22.25 ands the 5w is turned up to 19.75.

The SIM was seeing 146 ball speed, the 818 topped at about 140, and the 5w topped at 149. I'm really not sure how it's this fast but that's pretty ridiculous. Oddly enough though I went to hit the sim max 3w and was only getting about 152-153 ball so I'm definitely a little confused. Maybe that head is just really hot. It does look a bit upright compared to the 818 but I don't notice it being overly draw biased.

The 818 goes shorter and spins more which is probably what I need for the golf course. I could look into the 5h sim but I'm not sure I'd be gaining that much for my $$. Great club though I think if someone wants a bomber hybrid.

516Z9R1BJXT0.jpegfor those of you that want a top line comparison of the Mav pro and SIM max. Here you go. I my head to head test the sim is the winner but just slightly and it comes down to slightly high launch than the Mav, but no fade bias to speak of. Head sizes and shapes are very very similar.

The chalk line on the sim frames the ball up really well. The standard shaft although being a ventus in name only is a solid shaft but if I was to buy one, I would get the hazrdus smoke shaft that is a no up charge option at 90 grams. Here is one shot with the SIM 3 I believe it was. The 19 degree option. So yeah, it’s long enough. This one did bend a little left on me, but really not much.

I have not heard of or seen a tour version of the hybrid only retail/normal version in tour bags. And they can bend them. Most OEM's and tour vans have molds which help prevent cracking.

@QuigleyDU , just a thought, maybe, just maybe, you should quit p.u.s.s.y-footing it and actually step on one ;-)

All joking aside, those are numbers I'll never see on my best day with my driver (you're better by 30 yds carry). Congrats, so jealous

So far it doesn’t fit. I don’t carry a 3 wood either. I go driver cobra utility iron. One thing to remember as well, I am at 4500 feet alt. So at sea level take off ~10%

I hit the SIM and Mavrik pro at my range today - they were just stock stiff shafts (all the Golf Mart was provided...) and SIM was a full inch longer so not the best comparison, but FWIW I thought the Mavrik Pro sat more open and was more anti-left for my swing. Was planning to ditch my GAPR for a SIM; I am now leaning toward the Mavrik, but want to try them both again.

Hit both the Sim and Mav Pro indoors. I like them both. The Mav Pro has a more hollow metallic ting to it (still a nice solid sound/feel, though) while the SIM is more of a muted thwack. Mav Pro is kind of a unique shape in that it is flatter but you can see all of the grooves on the face, which for me, made it seem offset or closed visually, even though I know it's not. The SIM, I know is like 2-3 degrees more upright, but it doesn't look like it. Like I said, I like them both, and for me it comes down to the upgraded shafts. The Tensei Pro White is only $35-50 upcharge on the SIM, while the Pro Orange is $175-200 upcharge for the Mav Pro and they don't offer the White. The Tensei White is my fitted hybrid shaft, and it is much less expensive for some reason, so I would lean toward that. I could totally see myself buying a stock Mav Pro, though.

This year, I feel like all the Mavrik line could be ordered stock and I'd be ok with it, but all the Taylormade gear would be mandatory to get a custom build.

Hit a SIM Max at the dome the other day during a golf expo. Currently using a 17 M2 5 wood with a 70 gram DF. The Taylormade rep put me into a Ventus blue 7s. I could immediately tell it was SUPER light for my liking. I questioned it, asking him why this years TM hybrids are trending light. Maybe its just me, but usually you see 80 grams as stock in hybrids? He then put my into an even flow 80g shaft and it felt a lot better. Numbers were good, about the same carry as my 5w, but I could tell that the thing still wanted to go left. Maybe its just me, but it didnt feel like anything special like people are saying. I will be keeping my 5w in the bag this year.

I like golf. A lot.

I had the same issue with the stock shaft. Felt light and was hitting it left. Ordered one with the 90 gram hzrdus and this thing is awesome and forgiving. I think it's the line on the crown that makes me confident when squaring the club behind the ball, it doesn't feel like it sits closed

Maybe I would have SIMilar success with a heavier shaft (see what I did there?), but I could probably say that about any hybrid. I used hybrids for a long time but as I got to be a better ball striker, I hated them more and more. Switched to a 5w and I can easily work it either way and not have to PReed chicken wing it when I want to hit a cut.

From address, still not a huge fan of the way Taylormade clubs look. Just not huge on the 2 tone. I use them, but only because I can over look that for the performance they provide me (in the woods). My last hybrid was a 2017 M1 3h and it looked okay at address, but the face looked like a child's shoe and good swings always produced a 15 yard draw. Just not for me I guess.

I like golf. A lot.

The SIM Max is 19 degrees. I played the 818h flat and delofted to 18 and weight plug set to fade. (most fade bias) but I have not noticed any loss in distance. If anything it might be a touch longer 5-7 yards but thats just going off my landing areas, i have not put it on a launch monitor. I really don't want it to go much farther I like it to hit that 225-230 number.

I have not hit them on the monitor but I could, i have a mevo. I played my 818 with the weight plug in the fade setting, flat, and delofted to 18*. It was good to me for the most part but my miss was left going left. As I told someone else, the 818 was at 18* the SIM is 19*, they launch very similar and I have not noticed any loss in distance, if anything its 5-7 yards longer on my best shots but I am not really trying to add distance, i want this in that 225-230 range.

I hit the SIM Max, Mavrik Max, TS2, and G410 recently. I started on the SIM and liked it a lot with the stock ventus 7, but had to put it pretty far forward in my stance to not hook it. Maxed out at 141 ball speed but was more often around 137 average. Carry was 215-220 on good hits, 15ish launch, mid 3000s spin. The mavirk max I hit fine and similar numbers, but it looks too big. Should have tried the pro like several people here are comparing. But I think I got the best most consistent numbers and shape with the TS2 with the 90g evenflow white shaft. Ping I tried with the stock Alta 70, would like to go back and try the SIM and Ping with heavier shafts. All three could be the one to replace my old Nike VR pro finally.

Guys. This idea that hybrids are hook machines is 5 years past false. I’m the last guy you’d expect to praise a hybrid. But the first one I found that hit a hard low fade was the Bridgestone tour B from 17 ish. Then it was G400. Now g410 is even better with the flat lie angle setting. It’s Been a quiet secret for faster stronger players to have a hybrid under the 3 wood for a couple years now. Some are just late to the party. All it takes is a heavy shaft . Now if someone hits a running hook normally. They still will with a hybrid.

this idea that it now needs to be a tour issue hybrid to be played by a better , stronger player is nuts .
