Shot Scope V3

Recommended Posts

I don't know anything about the technology but the fact ShotScope has the NFC antenna in the watch band indicates that picking up the signals from the tags was a tricky problem to solve. The NFC sensor in Apple Watch may not be suitable for communicating with tags on the clubs. Then you're back to some kind of battery powered gizmo on the clubs like Arccos Link or Game Golf Pro and we know how well those worked out.

Second round in today and I'm still fighting this thing. It appeared that I was able to upload to the phone app and I signed the round without editing it as I figured I could do that in the Dashboard. I can't find that round either in the phone app or Dashboard. Not sure what happened to it.

I just saw that email and am doing the upgrade. Also, logged out of the app and then back in and the round shows back up and I was able to sync it. I'm guessing most of the these problems are self-inflicted because I don't know what I'm doing.

Has anyone tried using L1 + L5 after the firmware upgrade?

Its going to be difficult to know when to use it, seeing as their current advice says just use L1. I tried L1 + L5 and actually found it less accurate but wonder if the firmware update fixes that? any idea when we should start using L5?

Also wondered if anyone knows what the ‘Tags’ setting does in the settings menu? Is it just to test it’s scanning tags or does it have another purpose?

It’s a test feature. I got a response to my support ticket where they want me to test a few clubs with it. I just have to find the time, and a ruler...

I am late to the party... I still use my V2.... Love the data.... the size sucks...

I didn't jump on the V3 because I didn't think it was enough of an upgrade (even though the size was very appealing)

I am trying to figure out who these guys are who average 400 yards off the tee LOL

Going by my experience with the V3 and a bunch of “drives” close to 400 meters, guys whose watches miss a lot of shots D:

Hate it when you three putt for birdie from 7 feet :/

The three putt was probably accurate unfortunately. Just a few shots between the drive and the putts.

Came into this thread to see if it was just me having issues, but really doesn't seem to be the case. I'd definitely assumed it was end user error on my part, but maybe not!

One issue that people don't seem to be referencing is initial Bluetooth connectivity. My watch would NOT sync and I had to hard reset it and kill the app on the phone to get it working (P20 pro/Android). Post round sync was a PITA too.

First round last night and after initial setup, I tried to head out and see what it would collect. 10 holes of bogey golf and most shots were missed, to the point I stopped editing the round and deleted it as I had to edit every shot. Post round it only picked up my driver, 4i, gap wedge and assumed putter despite using most of my bag. Putting I had accidentally left on auto without tagging my putter (flat cat grip, so will need modding to take it) so that really is my bad.

I've now setup my bag fully in the dashboard, so will see if that makes a difference when I head out later!

On a side note, is there any way of checking your round on the fly? I've upgraded from the basic garmin S10 and feel that some functionality there is actually better; Simple scorecards, ability to measure out distances, green outlines.

Edit: Can't get Bluetooth connectivity at all now. Testing with my tablet to see if it's my phone or the device..

Edit 2: Will only connect with location enabled on my mobile. Unwanted design feature..?

welp, first weekend of 3 in the books, and shotscope missed another 8 shots, this with the new firmware. Playing again today, so I've set GPS to L1+L5 in the hopes it'll fix things. That makes 5 rounds with V3 that I won't be able to keep/track performance.....not mad and not getting rid of it, it's so much more comfortable than the v2. Just wish i had waited for the kinks to be fixed before using it (and selling my v2 lol)

Just got in having played 10 holes and it missed an awful lot of my shots out there which is disappointing. Still struck the ball well so I can take that away at very least ?

With all the great feedback on the V2 and the quick turnaround on customer comms I'm definitely committed, but I do feel that this has been shipped prematurely.

Well, that's good to hear. I was worried mine was missing shots because i was NOT hitting the ball well :-) And agreed on being too premature. The silly thing is, had they just called it an "early tester buy discount" we all still would have bought it, right? But then not be as upset. I guess even people buying today are getting it for less than next month when the price goes up. All just about how it could have been communicated. Very common for tech hardware, nobody has a problem beta testing as long as WE KNOW we are beta testing.

I'm betting that they planned on a month or two of final integration and testing, but then COVID came and they made a decision to keep their delivery schedule by using that final testing time as schedule margin (complete guess, no facts).

It's going to make it a very clunky release, but they've already released one firmware update so it looks like they're making up a little of the lost time.

Still, I'm optimistic (and happy that I didn't get rid of my v2 yet).

Thanks but definitely checked that first. I've been working with their wonderful support team. I know things will get sorted, just frustrated for the lost rounds in the meantime. But not the end of the world (but i'll admit I would be feeling better had i bought it at the earlier february pre-buy discount price lol)

I've now played 3 rounds with the V3; the accuracy appears to be better than the V2, and it hasn't missed any shots.

Unfortunately, I don't have any answers/suggestions as to why some WRXers are having problems with shot detection, but FWIW my strap is gray.

From the FAQ section, assuming nothing, this list might help some folks pin-pointing why shot-detection isn't working 100% for them. I hope this helps!

The following article will explain why your shots might be missed by the watch.

When the watch has failed to pick up shots it is normally due to one of the following reasons:

- All the tags have not been securely inserted into all the clubs.

- The user is not taking any practice swings. The Shot Scope watch goes to "sleep" in between shots, if a few practice swings are not taken before each shot then this can lead to missed shots as the watch hasn't "woken up" and misses the first swing/shot.

- Users are wearing the watch on the wrong wrist. Right handed golfers should wear the watch on their left wrist and left handed golfers on their right wrist. You also need to make sure that you have the watch set to the correct hand setting.  Click here to find out more information about how to wear the watch.

- Users wearing the watch too high on their wrist. If you wear the watch too high up the wrist then the watch and the tags can be too far apart to pick up shots. The closer to the bottom of the wrist the better.

- Users wearing metal or other devices on their wrist. Metal and other devices such as smartwatches or ION bracelets can be magnetic and prevent the technology in the watch from working.

- Users gripping down too much on the club. Holding the club down the grip can mean that the watch is too far away from the tag to record shots.

- Users wearing the watch with the face on the inside of their wrist. The watch has been designed to be worn with the screen facing the sky so this can cause the watch to miss shots.

I received my device this afternoon. It was charged to 72% upon receipt but I fully charged it before connecting to the App for the first time. There was no problem connecting via Bluetooth; as with most pairings I was prompted to and did have to enter a pairing code on my iPhone. The firmware update proceeded without issue. I went to "Courses" on the App and all the local courses within a reasonable distance were immediately displayed. I did subscribe to a number of them that I have played or might play in the foreseeable future and updated them. That went smoothly as well.

I was curious about how to set the time as it was incorrect and their website said something about going outside to get a GPS fix and at that point the correct time would be displayed. I found that just connecting the watch to the app it picked up the correct time from the phone. I went through all the settings on the watch just to practice how to use it. No issues there either.

The strap seems backwards with the buckle on the opposite side of where you normally find it on a wrist worn device but perhaps there is a specific reason they did that. I'm sure I'll get used to that quickly. I'm now anxious to see how it performs. Next round will be Monday morning.

My first round with it on Wednesday and it recorded all my shots no problem, even though I didn't take a lot of practice swings. I did have to go in and edit a few shots but that was on me, forgetting to record penalties etc and a couple of pins. I had another round Friday but it appears to have lost it since I synced it. I have a msg in to support to try and find it. Another thing I noticed is that although I have disabled the button lock feature, it keeps going back to locking anyway.
