Shot Scope V3

This is now a feature in the latest firmware update, it will give you live yardages for last shot hit.

Saying that, I've tried installing the latest firmware today and the watch will not boot, it's getting stuck at the V3 logo. Anyone else having issues?

Mine appeared to be stuck on the V3 logo and I clicked Connect Band from the app again and it worked after that.

A user on another forum got this response from Support:

"I'm really sorry but there was an error with the firmware file that was uploaded to the app. This has been corrected now but we need to first revert the firmware on your watch to the original firmware so we can then get you to go back and update the watch to the correct recently released firmware. Below are the steps we need you take:

Step 1 - Revert the firmware on the watch.

- Make sure the watch is turned off
- With the screen off, hold down the bottom left and right buttons
- Whilst still holding down those buttons, press the top left button once and then release. A V3 logo should appear on the screen. If this does not appear then start from the beginning.
- Continue to hold down these two bottom buttons for 40 seconds. This should reset the firmware
- After this is done, connect the watch to the mobile app and update the firmware/go through on boarding. It is very important to do this straight after the reset so this can fix the issue.

Its not the easiest process by design so you may need a few attempts at this but it does work. Thanks for your patience.

Step 2 - Connect the watch to the app and update the firmware"

Are you saying that 2.2.76 is faulty? I haven't used it since updating the firmware to this version, and haven't heard of any problems with it.

I played a round with the new firmware and it was nice. Only used the last shot distance one time but the time to acquire satellites was way shorter and is a welcome update.

I guess I was premature in my praise of the update. Now I can’t get the band to connect.

Edit: Rebooted  both the phone and watch and it works. I know I’m old but I have a lot of experience with computers. There’s always something.

I played my first round with the latest firmware update today. I don't know that it was appreciably faster in connecting, nor did I experience any other improvements. It still defaulted to driver when I hit 5 iron off a tee that gives me fits because it's a narrow chute. It assumed driver on a tee, when reviewing in the web portal, when I know I saw the watch recognize I was using 3W. It still missed a few shots completely. Nothing has really changed on this firmware update for me except it seems to record the distances more accurately when it does record the shots properly.

I'm pretty new to Shot Scope after years with Garmin, and I just haven't figured out how to view the last shot distance yet; I've got a V3 with the firmware update.  If you don't mind, give me or point me toward a tutorial.

I'm pretty frustrated right now with ShotScope. I played Saturday and it missed every shot on 17 and 18. I played today and it only detected 3 shots on 10 and 3 shots on 11. That's it. 6 shots total. This is useless. I already sent them an email but will be switching back to Arccos for shot tracking and data until they can get their act together. I have been a user since V2 first came out, but it's getting worse every time out.

I'm curious. I am having zero issues with shot tracking. All shots are recorded and no extra shots are added. However, my curiosity has to do with GPS accuracy. How accurate are any of you finding the pin collect (i.e. pin location) on the green? I am thinking my course, one that I play every day, has some mapping issues as the pin is sometimes way off from where I hit the button. However, if everyone is finding the pin location to be off using whichever GPS setting (L1 or L1+L5) it may not be a mapping issue just GPS inaccuracy. Either way, I don't want to address mapping with Shot Scope right now as there are plans to add new tee boxes on a couple of the holes.

I find Shotscope GPS to be about as accurate as GPS typically is.  I see 4-5 yard errors quite a bit.  It will be interesting to see if the device ever gets close to the advertised 30 cm once L1 + L5 is fully available.

FYI.

The L1 signal is the oldest GPS signal. It has two parts: the Coarse/Acquisition Code (C/A) and the Precision Code (P-code). The P-code is reserved for military use, while the C/A is open to the public. The L1 signal uses the frequency 1575.42 MHz. Since the L1 is the oldest and most established signal, even the cheapest GPS units are capable of receiving it. However, because its frequency is relatively slow it is not very effective at traveling through obstacles.

L5 is the third GPS signal, operating at 1176 MHz. It is the most advanced GNSS signal yet, but it is still in its infancy, with deployment scheduled for 2021.  It will be used for safety-of-life transportation and other demanding applications such as aviation. It will eventually become another signal available for civilian users.   Since it is so new, it’s not yet useful for surveyors, but it is something to keep in mind when designing the GPS receivers of the future.

I wonder if V3 ever gets L5 signal since it is in its infancy.  I assume L1 signal mostly.

Anyone else frustrated that they advertised crazy GPS accuracy when the L5 satellite won't even be working for a while? I'm finding I'm having to do a lot of pin moving lately...like pin is on the back of the green and when I mark on the watch it puts it on the front of the green. Just a few that are really off every single round. I also noticed that when I play tree lined courses the GPS can be way, way off. Fortunately, my home course isn't tree lined so it's mostly pretty good but I still have to do a lot of post round editing and I'm getting a little tired of doing that much editing.

I'm a dozen or so rounds in with the V3 after years of a Garmin, and I've used Arrcos extensively in the past for data.

The V3 is fine as a GPS watch, no better than the Garmin, but fine.  But the data collection compared to Arrcos is seems to me to vastly inferior.  Far, far more missed shots and much less user-friendly editing.  The biggest issue for me personally is that I putt side saddle with the thumb of my left hand on top of the putter; as far as I can tell, that completely blocks the V3 putter sensor from picking anything up, even though my watch is on that wrist.  That was NEVER a problem with Arrcos; in fact, I had to edit putts OUT of Arrcos because the sensor was so sensitive.

I don't regret the purchase, and maybe I'll get better at the editing.  But going forward, if I want detailed shot data after getting new clubs or a swing change or whatever, I'll go right back to my Arrcos sensors.

I’m not sure I’ll stick with mine. I like the watch and it gives good basic info while in play. That stated, my Garmin S60 watch gives allot more real time on course info as does my old hand held G6.

I do really like the V3 post round data and the ease of use on course to collect this data. I had not had some of the issues reported others. The V3 is super user friendly and does not impact your round at all.

All that stated, given I tend to work 55-60 hrs a week and have another 7-8 hours of drive time on top of it, it’s not really in the cards to be able to use the data to develop a improvement practice plan since I don’t have time for that. I maybe hit range once a month and typically average one round a week with the exception of golf trips.

Given the Garmin gives more on course info that I miss with V3, I’m not certain how long I’ll keep using V3.

No problems with shot tracking, but I don't trust the GPS on the course. Seems to always be 5 to 10 yards off.

I don't really find the data useful. I hit lots of 75% shots with my irons to control spin and trajectory. So the averages it gives me are not that helpful. And as far as what I need to practice, there has been no revelations.

With regard to accuracy, our carts come with a GPS and I have found the cart and the V3 only differ, at the most, by about two yards.

I don't find club distances very useful, either. It is not only a case of hitting shots at less than 100%, but there is no way to take into account weather (wind into, across, behind) or course conditions (soft, firm). What is of  the most interest and value to me are the accuracy and proximity stats.

I don't have any issues with my V3 and it has been good, apart from putting which is a total loss for me (left hand low)  One thing I do question is their claimed GPS accuracy of 30cm, as I can walk back 3 yds and the display doesn't change ?

Yeah this is a complaint I have too. The claimed "dual GPS" is misleading because one of the satellites doesn't even really work on the watch. Nothing changes when I change to L1+L5 and the watch isn't accurate enough at all for me to trust the putting stats. I've had many instances where the flag is marked at least 5 YARDS from the spot I actually hit the pick button.
