2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

On the issue of TaylorMade custom orders and swing weights, I received this response from TaylorMade a while ago:Our Custom Shop is able to make custom changes to length, shaft selection and grips, but, unfortunately, we are not able to make changes to swing weight by adding more club head weight. The swing weight will vary based on shaft selection and the grip.

May have changed, but worth confirming if you're ordering something fancy.

Consider yourself lucky. The amount of money I've spent over the years on lead tape and weights could have bought me a lot of extra golf balls. I'd love to see 45" come back as the standard driver length, then it might not be so bad but when you are trying to play sub-45 and all these heads are designed for 45.75" drivers it's a nightmare.

I'm the opposite...I'm super sensitive to it. I've done tests with driver swingweight changes where I started at my desired weight and removed .5 point at a time and hit balls on a launch monitor. The first .5 point change wasn't noticeable. But when I removed the next .5 I saw a dip in ballspeed. So 1 sw point lower than normal and ballspeed dropped consistently. 2 points lower than my optimal and the ball is all over the place.

The opposite had similar results. 1 point up in sw just slowed things down a tiny bit. Too heavy and I pulled everything.

It was an interesting test...

I would use caution- I had two different M5 weights fail during torque down trying to get them installed in the SIM. One was my extra 5g that I removed from my M5 to try, the other was one of two identical weights that failed (its twin went right into my M5 head).

I've got the tail of my SIM flanked with lead tape right now but I think I'm gonna go the hotmelt route.

I have a 4g weight in my m5 now (a third weight) that I intend to put in the SIM. I will report back on whether the weight has issues.

Lead tape worked well during testing of the SIM so I'll go that option if the weight fails. Hoping the weight works because I want just a touch more weight forward.

Yeah I’m with you I’m the same way,I Can tell when the swing weight is slightly off even at my 96 mile an hour swing speed, on a sidenote I was able to find a brand new 10 1/2 M5 head still in the shrink wrap for 200 bucks I don’t think it was a bad move grabbing it since I traded mine and always wanted one back since then

I probably should try to standardize things a bit. I have never really worried about it. I don't even know the swing weights of any of my current clubs..

Actually not using it right now, I like the Atmos Black better. I just changed clubs so I haven't been out on the course yet with it and only my simulator league since getting the SIM. I do have a lesson on GC Quad tomorrow so I should get an actual idea of how the setup is doing so far. I am taking the GP with me to try if I don't like what I'm getting numbers wise.

I had a ton of stuff to trade in, so I went apeshit on this club. Ventus Black 7x, 8*, midsize MCC with two wraps, -1.75”.

My club fitter said that for a guy my height with long arms and giant hands, that’s the combo I need.

I swing pretty fast and have no real problems with launching or spin rate, so my hope is I’ll be more accurate with the shorter club and be able to crank it down to 6* so I can hit lower drives with less spin and get more yardage out of that.

Still got my Epic Flash SZ 9* that’s 46” for when absolutely none of that goes according to plan.

Got my 9* Lefty SIM on a simulator yesterday, absolutely love it! Turned down to 8.25* and was hitting well, but I’m still launching high (peak around 140-150 feet) and spinning around 2900. Best results for me were with a HZRDUS smoke black 6.5 shaft, but ordered mine with the Diamana and it was simply spinning too much for me. Question is would I benefit anymore from the Smoke Green shaft, or should I look more at Ventus Black?

With Smoke Black: Swing speed 110-112 mph, ball about 160, smash averaging 1.45.

Also if anyone is having trouble with their 6.5 Smoke Green being too stout and wants to try the Diamana, let me know and we can swap.

If anyone is curious of full specs and accuracies.

Ordered 8* SIM with Ventus Black 7X stock length and grip uninstalled.

Head Weight: 195.2 grams (My M5 was 196.1 grams and M5 Tour was 196.4 grams)

Length measured exactly 45.75" to butt end of grip. I've always measured without grip installed so to me it was measured at 45.5". The same goes with irons, a 5 iron measured at 38" would be the length without the grip installed and the measurement with grip is right at about 38.25".

I use one strip of masking tape and one strip of double sided tape and then put on a Golf Pride MCC Plus4 grip.

Swing weight was exactly D4.

Received my order on Monday, SIM Max 10.5* Driver and SIM Max 15* 3 wood. I played the M5 9* pretty much all of 2019 until it cracked and then used the Ping G410 LST 9* for the last few months.

I was able to get out today to play a few holes and both SIM Max products are not for me. I'm a 118 mph guy and do not spin the ball at all and this driver spun like a top. I lofted down to 8.5* and it was still spinning significantly more than I'm accustomed to. Some of the reviews I've read and watched sort of scared me into the 10.5* Max, but I should have gone with the regular SIM 9*. I'm not sure I've ever swung faster to only hit it 260, but there's a first for everything.

I always stress never limit yourself for one short stent to make a decision on whether to keep a club. I find it usually takes several days and longer to find the exact settings especially if one has numerous shaft options available. I have found myself tweaking the adjustments for a couple of weeks on the course when using a club with multiple adjustment capability ie. the SIM, M5, M3 etc.

In the bag: Playing --- TaylorMade  Qi 10 (core) driver w/Fujikura Ventus Blue 6S. 3wd TM (OG) SIM (special smaller tour only head, same that TW was playing prior to the '24 Genesis approx 160cc) @ 15.*) with Fujikura Ventus 7-S.  5 wd TM SIM w/Fujikura Speeder 857TR-S (Japan made)

HyBrids-Cleveland Hi-Bore #1 (16* plays like 2-Iron) W/Fuji-S Tipped 1/2".  SIM Max #4 (set @ 21.5* w/ Fuji Atmos HB8 9S.  IRONS:  TM M3 4i (2*weak)w SteelFiber i95-S,  P790 3, 5-PW,  w/Fuji Pro 95i-S. SW TM MG4  54*/11 bent to 53*/10 w/ Precision Rifle 6.0-S. LW TaylorMade Hi Toe 3, 58/10 w/Modus Tour 105 Stiff. Putter-- BOBBY GRACE Night&Day-Custom, "M.Coz-Bandsaw Prototype". Ball 2022 TaylorMade Tour Response
Alternating clubs: the 5wd, TM Hybrid Stealth 2+ #2, 3Iron, depending on what part of the country, course, climate, and conditions.
