2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

Ok so we had an extraordinary weekend for weather in Texas the past two days and it allowed me to get some range time and 2 rounds in with the Sim Max.

First I tried it with my go to shaft Tensei Pro Blue 60g stiff, playing length 45".  Started 2 click lower on sleeve to promote a fade.  Wasn't seeing the ballfilght I wanted so tried 1 click lower and helped but still could not get the proper height and shape that I was used to seeing with the M4 Tour issued head I have been using over the last 2 years.

So of course I am a shaft ho so I went and got my Real Deal Ventus Red 5S that is same length as the Tensei.  All standard setting on loft sleeve.  I can only say WOW, this shaft made the SIM MAX come alive.  Carry distance was not measured but let me say that I was at least a club less into every green and what impressed me and my playing partners was the forgiveness of this head.   Only missed 2 fairways in 2 18 hole rounds.  I am not a long hitter but its nice to see a little more distance with accuracy improvements from a club.  Did not like the M6 but I think I have found a winner for my game.

Again this is just my findings and I don't have numbers but I did clean some pockets this weekend and it was met with playing partners asking to hit the new Taylormade SIM MAX driver.

I broke two different 4g weights in mine before giving up. I don't think they're compatible and it is likely a very small tolerance difference. $20 of cheap slider weights could have bought me 50g of hotmelt in a cartridge haha.

I am scared of things like hot melt. It is too finalized..

My buddy got fitted at club champion and they even told him that Taylormade has the lightest stock heads. I personally prefer a slightly heavier head so maybe that is why I have not got along with Taylormade. Maybe I will revisit a SIM with some added weight as I did hit his with the stock FENTUS (Fake Ventus lol) and it was long and I didnt even hit one on the screws.

@getitdaily The weights broke during installation, as soon as I went to torque them (with a TM wrench) they both stripped.

I'm not overly concerned with the permanence of hot melt, I'm doing it to add 3 swing weight points worth of weight and I don't intend to bias the head with it. When it's all said and done you're talking about an amount of mass that's literally less than 3% of the total head mass (6g- 201g head) and if I see any change in ball flight I can tweak the sliding weight if I need to. I also am pretty familiar with the market here on WRX and know that melt is desirable, and not many guys are playing super light driver heads. Calculated decision but I can understand why some of you don't want to hot melt.

They do and that is because most of their drivers come in at a ridiculous 45.75"......All of their Tour Pros are playing much shorter drivers with Hotmelt in them to bring up the weight.

Many are reporting much higher spin with the MAX. I have not seen it. It has only been around 300 ave rev spin higher. That is not much. I can't tell a difference in sound either. Where I am seeing the difference for the majority is dispersion is better on the Max due to the higher MOI.

Might have missed it in other posts...do you do fittings?

If so, are those showing better dispersion mid to high handicaps? You seeing any scratch or better players choose max over regular sim? Would figure once you get regular sim dialed in for the better player that dispersion differences would be minimal...

Sure, I could live with that number. I think that is pretty accurate. 3-500 is really the same number for all intents and purposes.

@getitdaily For some reason the quote button is not working.

Yes, I am a fitter. In general yes those seeing better dispersion are your mid to high handicaps. Which really is the majority of golfers. But, I can tell you for myself. I am personally not seeing much difference in spin between the two. I think the SIM does offer a few more options as far as fittings go, I just don't know if most will need it.

I am a high speed golfer and a low'ish handicap. While I have the standard SIM. I have considered switching to the MAX.

I have tested them. I prefer the SIM series of heads. for a couple reason. Most of the related to personal preference more than numbers. the Mav is very muted. Too muted for my taste. When a head gets that muted to me it starts to lack feel. I also prefer the shape of the SIM. It is more classic pear vs. round for the Mav. The numbers for the Mav are good. I get better numbers with the SIM but they are only marginally better. That is with the exact same shafts in them so it is very apples to apples.

As far as I have seen the Mav is winning the sales race. I think a big reason for that is it is currently out and available on shelves. People can walk out with it vs. Wait on an order.

Haha,. thanks.

I only saw about 300 rpm difference too. But it was 300 in the wrong way. 2200 in sim and 2500 in max. If sim had been 1900 avg and max at 2200 then I might be in a max.

If you don't mind a couple of questions...

During the demo, I saw a tendency for the sim and max to close relative to path too often. Not too bad, but enough to be a problem for a fader like me.

I know that weight forward helps slow face rotation so I bought a 4g weight for the front track (need 2 more sw points). In testing I saw really good results with the 10g in toe and 4g just heel side of center. That dispersion chart I posted Friday was that setup. The weight broke Saturday so o had to play sunday with lead tape running on the side of the back weight. Tried 4g of weight toe side with 10g front track weight toe side of center and hit big fades. Moved the lead tape heel side and 10g toe side of center and was just ok. Moved lead tape back to toe side and 10g heel side of center and hit it really well.

What are your thoughts on which setup to play...lead tape toe side with front track weight heel side of center (not all the way in heel) or 2 front weights - 10g all the way in toe and 4g heel.side of center?

I'm a fader so I want that controlled fade but also like to be able to draw it on command.

You have a lot going on there. I would like to know what shaft you are playing as well and at what length? I do not remember seeing you post that. Depending on that, if it is an active tip or counter balanced or whatever. That could affect your ball flight and face closing rate as well.

Depending on that. You should play the set up that gives you the most consistent results. Which sounded like lead tape on the toe, and the weight just inside of center.

I really cant fit via conversation. Its really hard.. Haha.

Yeah, i figured that. Was looking at just hypotheticals...

Playing a 125msi rogue silver 60s tipped. I have a 60 x but I get a bit too much handle pull from the top with the x right now.

Here are the numbers and dispersion with the 4g weight in the front track heel side. I will test the crap out of these setups, just have to be careful with the 4g weight, have 2 more coming but they have less than 10 torque turned before the screw strips...appreciate the insight.
