2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

From everything I’m reading and seeing it would appear the MAX is my better option. I struggle with a lack of spin so I don’t need to revisit the knuckle balls I experienced with the SLDR. On a whim I put the 2017 version of the M2 in the bag for the past few rounds and was not only seeing better then average numbers (when paired with a Helium) but the dispersion was really tight. I’ll be interested to see if the MAX can outperform it on an apples to apples test.

I do enjoy A.E.. He is a funny dude. “Shape in motion” sounds like a yoga pose.. haha. I would love to play a round of golf with him..

It’s funny, not really much changes with drivers any more. It would appear the real tech advances are with shafts. Maybe better to just find a head we like and spend the money on new shafts, or maybe I just think it is a good idea since that is what I am doing this time around.

Well, unless I get lucky today...lol

Go watch the txg video on sim vs m5 and see how stabdard deviation improves on spin and ball speed for Matt. Plus he comments how much more stable the sim head is compared to the m5. Everyone gets caught up in swing speeds or ball speed which isn’t bad but there’s other stuff that improves. Matt was able to eliminate the right side of the course as seen in their video at the kingdom. He was dropping some shots right on top of each other.

Yes, I think he went back and hit two balls......I have trouble figuring out why these guys are the benchmark to so many when they have a guy hitting drivers with a swing speed that 95% of golfers will never get within 10 mph of....Doesn't mean that other testers are great. I just don't see where watching these test help the average player.

I watched it, just a video of someone hitting balls inside. How many times have we seen similar this time of year, only to see them tumbling on the BST, sometimes even before retail .

this is not directed at TM, or the SIM.

I mean they were almost identical to the M5 numbers from rd 1. They also may have hit more than just 2 they just didnt show it who knows

I agree average swings speeds cant take much from it but atleast you see that there is a ball speed gain from Matt. If the Sim was slower for example I would not waste my time going to look at it

Here is where we must agree to disagree.....Results from a guy swinging a club 120 mph has no bearing on a guy swinging the same club 100 mph......My opinion of course.....I remember seeing many high end players having great success with the SLDR, but from what I saw, it was a flop in the hands of lessor players.

I'm in the same boat. I have already come to grips that I will lose that internal battle, as I shop for shaft adapters online.

Looking at a lot of these videos, and then seeing prior years where the this year's old driver was last year's new driver, they aren't always consistent. When the M5 was new the TXG guy was saying how it felt much more stable than the M3. This year he says the M5 wasn't that stable and the SIM feels much more stable.

I have a fitting at Club Champion on the 31st, really interested in comparing the SIMs, Mavs, and TS4. The G410 is getting punted. I want something that is longer than my 0811x but finds the fairway the same way it does. If the CG on the Mav is similar to the Rogue I think it will be a winner. I miss low on the face and get absolutely punished on the G410 for it.

Something to keep in mind, many advances in head tech, aerodynamics especially, disproportionately favor higher swing speeds.

This is very true. I think that is why you are seeing so many light weight option driver hit the market. Mizuno has one coming in the ST200 series, TS1, callaway with their star line. It is all in attempt to help generate speed.

I think they showed it in that one at like 114 but Ian made a comment and they had a short discussion about it that Ian doesn’t look as swing speed because monitors read different heads different and it’s an input number and he prefers to look at output data like ball speed. The overall of the consistency from shot to shot with the sim outperformed the m5 as did ball speed and distance

That makes some sense. I see it work for some and not for others. I have seen ladies with 80 MPH swing speeds that a sub zero low spin head produced the best numbers. Its all relative and options are good. Just have to figure it out.
