WHOOP

So I bit the bullet and got one. I love mine, but still don't think I will keep it past a few months. I never really know what all it is doing for me other than telling me how well I am sleeping.

 

I also can't fully confirm it's accuracy. I got an email from someone on staff saying I wasn't wearing it right, which i think wasn't tight enough. Now its so tight that it feels like its like permanantly stuck to my skin, causing sweat. at some point it feels like my skins going to go raw. hard to explain really. but its fine right now so thats just speculation.

But just last week I rode 18 holes and it said it was a high stress activity/day, then I carried 18 with some range time and it said it was a medium stress activity/day. so I was confused by that. then I played a high intensity soccer game and it said I was still less intense than riding 18.

Because of this it told me that I needed more rest after riding 18, but i felt fine the next day. it said I didn't need much rest after carrying 18 and i was kinda sore the next day. After soccer it says I am pretty well recovered (even though I didn't sleep for very long) and I feel like I got hit by a bus.

So I am conflicted. The data seems accurate. it knows exactly when i start and stop an activity, and go to sleep. I just have some doubts because it does not correlate with what my body is telling me, which at the end of the day is what I think is most important.

once I have these doubts 30$ a month is hard to swallow.

 

I think I am going to give it to my wife and try to compare results.

I've had mine since the beginning of the year and love it. I wear it religiously and as prescribed. If you're someone who incorporates gym time or any other kind of fitness regimen into your golf game I would highly recommend it. The rest and recovery windows, and the "coaching" that it provides have been great for me. The main benefit that I've seen from it is getting the consistency of my sleep and tracking that better. That's what I think a lot of people misinterpret when they're looking at their data from it. It's not just telling you to sleep longer or go to bed earlier, it's telling you what hours your body is primed to sleep best. Whether that's 9 pm to 6 am or 1 am until 10 am. Now, this the may be unrealistic for some people as there's jobs, kids, families, etc. but if you can you work closer to the times it recommends you'll feel a noticeable difference in how you feel and perform.

Anyone have an update if they found this beneficial? Or did everyone ditch it?

 

Im finally getting my body well enough (ongoing nagging injuries) where I am trying to get a consistent workout routine going and hopefully avoid further injuries. Just wondering if whoop would be good for me to keep me in check.

As someone who is a fan of data and intelligence to make decisions, I’ve had a Whoop for the better part of a year and wear it 24/7. It’s the best health wearable on the market simply because it compiles so much data and how all that data relates to performance. I can’t imagine living without it.

So I have had mine about 6 months and these are just some notes I suppose:

 

1. You get what you put in, yes the basic recovery data is very nice ,  however if you actually make and use the 'survey' questions for every morning when you wake up after a couple months you can really see helpful / not helpful patterns.

2. I think the recovery is a great tool. At least for me I've had some bad recoveries but feel fine when waking up. Decided to play golf and half way through regretted it as my body was fading fast.

3. Not sure if this is common but mine seems to disconnect from blue tooth once a week (a bit annoying)

I like mine. I thought it would bother me when I golf but I decided to wear it mostly on my right wrist and it hasn't been an issue. The big thing I have gotten out of it is the recovery and sleep. It's really helped me realize that a lot of the crappy days of golf I play are due to bad recoveries the night before after lifting. Getting my sleep in order has been really helpful to my golf game.


On a side note, I was shocked how much strain a round of golf put on my body especially when walking.

Had my whoop for over a year now and love it, great for workouts and tracking data. Particularly love to use it on the bike as it sits right on my stem and I have the strain coach right there, really motivating. If you get one though get a bicep strap, its way better and more accurate. I had some weird heart rate tracking when wearing it on my wrist and its completely gone away on the bicep.

I wish their pricing model was not subscription based, but rather one time purchase.

I wore mine for over a year and a half and recently ended my subscription.  I liked it, but it got to where I could basically predict the recoveries based on strain, golf, work stress, night out, sleep, etc., so I decided to move on.

 

One thing I will recommend is to replace the wrist strap with the bicep band... it will take ~2 weeks to recalibrate once you switch, but it's worth it in my opinion.  With the wrist strap it thinks you're straining more than you actually are, as you move your hands/wrists a lot during the day (think washing your hands, swinging a golf club, etc.). After I got the bicep band and my strain per day and activity went WAY down.

Spot on with the bicep band. Wasn't aware it takes time to recalibrate when you move locations though.

I understand the benefit to them of a subscription model. I do not fault them for the recurring revenue pursuit. It just doesn’t jive with how I prefer things as a consumer.

I count it as golf personally. While it is shorter than a round my HR will be higher and not have as many peaks and valleys as I'm constantly moving. 

 

I'm sure it could be considered other or something else as well.

I’ve had a Whoop for nearly 2 years now. Good feedback from everyone else. A couple things I’ll add: 

 

1. It’s perfect if you workout regularly towards a longer term goal. It will help you make “smarter” training decisions to help avoid injury (this is especially true if you’re a runner or other high impact training). It doesn’t stand out if looking at it from an individual workout basis. 

2. I equate it with some of the trendy diets over the years—useful while strictly following them, but more useful for what they do to your mindset. I’m far more mindful when it comes to sleep and what impacts my sleep (room conditions/meals/alcohol) since wearing my Whoop. It will change the way you sleep because your outlook on rest will change.

These re-occuring subscription models are just a cash grab. Had some other app that had yearly sub and they did zero updates. Should be one time purchase like Oura ring.
