Would love to hear a bit more on the hybrids. Particularly whether the reduction in draw bias is indeed true for the off the rack clubs. Seems like most on the trip ended up with 5-woods.

 

Sounds like for Bonecrusher the hybrid was going left - is that routinely true for all hybrids and did you notice anything different about the Sim?

 

How about everyone else? Did you go head to head on the 5w and the 3h?

I really did not hit the hybrid extensively. I always struggle with hybrids. I play a Ping G410 which has been pretty solid for me but still pretty inconsistent. I was running out of time towards the end of my fit (had to make the tee time!) so I didn't try a bunch of different options for the hybrid. I was hoping I would get fit to a 5w anyway. I've never played one and I figured this would be a great opportunity to see how they perform.

I believe Taylormade uses both just for collecting data. Due to how they measure the data the numbers can vary wildly, better to compare TM to TM and Quad to Quad, if one were trying to compare data from both on a given swing it probably cause insanity! Example is clubhead speed, because of the physical measurement point Quad typically shows faster speeds vs TM, and smash factor is subsequently lower on GC and TM as Ballspeeds are usually close enough.

I currently have a hybrid, my fitter told me he could fit me for a SIM hybrid but I really wouldn't see much improvement over my current one, so he fit me for something I didn't have.

The main reason why the hybrid went left for me is because of the regular shaft and the lie angle. I believe the stock lie is 62* where the 5w is 60*. The 3h is about 1 1/2" shorter, but the lie angle is still too upright for me. The first shot I hit with the 3h was a duck. I was able to slow down and not overload the shaft and get 3 straight shots. The clubhesd felt great on those three shots. Nothing ballooned and I was able to hit at different heights. I went with the P790 3i to fill the gap better and to eliminate that left miss on lazy swings.

During our product presentation I asked specifically about the bias in the club. It was explained that all hybrids will be neutral bias. If the pros want a fade bias, that will be done with hot melt.

The hybrids were so new they didn’t have all the shaft options to try to fit us into them and the 5 woods worked so well we would have all ended up with them anyway. He let me try the 4 hybrid after and said it was actually perfect for me with the stock ventus blue shaft in a stiff flex. It was the easiest to launch hybrid I have ever hit and I loved the v sole interaction with the turf. I’ve always been a hybrid guy and play a fade so it doesn’t totally answer your question but he said the tour guys absolutely love them because they don’t just go left on them.

I bet he uses it like bryson does, uses the TM for full data and the quad for normalized data. That or he likes the club data from the quad better.

Awesome write-ups sounds like a blast. When i hit it last week felt pretty dang good, and I only go for Ping Woods. Though i will stick to my 410 set up, its a mental thing. But love learning and hearing about these trips, sounds like a great experience.

Our putters were being built for the tour department so i feel like within reason if we asked for it we could've gotten it. I didn't ask for anything crazy on mine i just like the simplicity of the one line one i was rolling. I did however ask if i could get a tour superstroke 1.0P grip on it and they said we'll see what we can do so hopefully i was lucky enough to end up with that!
