So I'v been thinking of getting away late April early May to Florida but now considering something different and am thinking Texas, never been

Have heard a lot of good things about both places but curious as to what you might pick and why.

2 golfers 4-5 night stay with 3-4 rounds.

Cheers,L

If it's a food and drink break, then Austin IMHO, be good fun, for golf neither are much of a destination IMHO; however, unless you have access to ACC/AGC or are going to stay and play at Omni Barton Creek, I'd go to SA and you can play 36 at La Cantera, The Quarry, Breckenridge, River Crossing GC (a bit North of SA) without much planning/money needed... or splurge a bit for TPC San Antonio.

I’ve played in both towns and had good luck with both. La Cantera and Barton are going to run you about the same for a round, but I’d take Barton every day for sheer ENJOYMENT, and speed of play. If you go play the TPC in San Antonio, it’s even slower pace of play! Barto’s Fazio Foothills and Canyons are more enjoyable to me. As far as public courses, I like San Antonio better. The Quarry is a ton of fun, and the City courses like Brackenridge aren’t the longest, but in great shape, fun, and fairly priced. Food is great in both towns, but good golf can be a haul from downtown of either of them. Riverwalk vs 6th Street. You can’t go wrong either way, but if a resort is where you’ll stay, I’d do Barton Creek. If a mix, do San Antonio....

I'm with Duffer, I don't think there is really any destination worthy courses in the area. Lots of very nice courses that are pleasant rounds, but nothing remarkable. Which means that I would pick a city based on what you want to do. For my money, the best courses I've seen in the area are all west of Austin and North of SA. Vaalar Creek, Buckhorn, and the Legends have all been really fun courses. Absolutely nothing out there, so I don't recommend that for a guys weekend, but those are my favorite courses in the area.

Omni just spent $170 million renovating and expanding the Barton Creek resort and renovating three of the golf courses. Canyons will close this summer for bunker replacement. Foothills and Cliffside should be in perfect shape in late April or early May since they are hosting the PGA Pro Championship tournament. The heat isn't bad then.

agree that SA has way better public access, but why would you say TPC is slow?  I play there regularly and NEVER play in more than 3 hours.  Doesn't matter when I tee off or what day it is.

Woah.... how much of that was spent on the courses?  That is an obscene amount.

Just got back from Austin this last week. Stayed at Barton Creek and played the Fazio Foothills, Fazio Canyons and Crenshaw. I was really impressed. Courses in excellent shape and much better than I had recalled. I remember the Crenshaw being pretty Vanilla, but from the back tees it’s a good challenge and I thought pretty damn good track. Canyons really good too but was really impressed with Foothills; the back nine is phenomenal. Revamped resort is really nice too. Probably a little over priced but, definitely pretty damn good.
