Anyone go to a lighter shaft?

Recommended Posts

I was given a set of DG Gold 105 stiff shafts that have been pured. Since they are pured I thought why not?

currently I play Project X Flighted 5.5 shafts which are 120g. Hit the ball plenty high etc. always thought they were good for me.

took my 7 iron to golf store. Hit around 20 balls. Then had the guy change shafts in my 7 iron only to the 105. Came back 2 days later and hit about 20 balls with the lighter shaft.

immediately I noticed the feel of the lighter shaft. And I kinda liked it. And best of all. I was carrying the ball 5-10 yards longer. I really didn’t expect to be longer at all. Was hoping results were similar so I would have an excuse to play the pured shafts. but seems as though they are better performing for me.

has anyone ever done this? Seems a little bit like an ego ball buster going to a lighter shaft. But I guess stats don’t lie. And I’ve never had anyone come up to me and look at my shaft stickers lol

Don't let the ego get in the way. There is no real benefit to extra weight you don't need. Finding the best fit for shaft weight is generally much more important than flex or stiffness. Too heavy can be as problematic as too light. Weight can potentially have a big influence on the accuracy and consistency of the swing and results so it's not just about distance.

I was fit into DG xp95 s300. I don't swing slowly by any means, but my launch and spin were low due to AoA. I got more height, spin, and better results. 2.5 Hdcp, Driver SS about 105-108, PW 135, 8iron 160. not super long but long enough. The nice thing about ordering clubs with lighter weight shaft is that you can spec your swingweights. its tougher to do when pulling and installing lightweight shafts on existing heads. At least that what the smart people tell me
