Zach Johnson PXG Seemore putter

Saw Zach putting with a PXG copy of his trusted Seemore putter at the Sony in Hawaii. Kind of feels wrong to me.

My God, so I wasn’t hallucinating! I thought I saw he putted with a PXG, then I’m like there’s no way he’ll abandon his beloved SeeMore.

 

I think the putter grip is still SeeMore.

Hmm. If there is only some place one could find that information at your fingertips. Truth is his performance along with others has fallen off after switching brands of clubs for money after 2015. Not the first person it's happened to and won't be the last.

Not the first time someone copied a putter and won't be the last. See more is great but any straight centre shaft putter can be used to the same effect IMO

Yep will agree with you on that unless the patent has ran out. Now I will concur that if the patent has not ran out that PXG may have some marks on his putter for alignment purposes that only he can see. I will also say he has putted with that type putter so long that he can automatically line it up.

Zach has been testing other putters for a while now. He certainly lost his touch. He even used a spyder some time ago.

If it is only Zach's putter that has the alignment but the eventual retail putter does not, is it still an infringement?

Maybe not because you can say Zach put it there himself/it is aftermarket?

My pics aren't perfectly clear but I don't see any seemore style alignment line on the heel. No dot or lines.

It's just center shafted. If there was a circular red alignment aid then I think there'd be a case. FYI, not a lawyer.

I'm not a patent lawyer, but don't don't think Seemore could sue PXG if, a) PXG isn't selling it, b) Zach painted the dot on himself.

Doesn't there have to a loss of revenue/sales for a company to sue for patent infringement?

You can easily put the red dot on with nail polish.

Isn't the Newport 2.6 the same concept as See More?

It could just be that Zach liked the SeeMore for the style of putter it was and for the way it allowed him to putt and that the alignment aid was irrelevant to him.

Basically.

My friend used a ZJ-like SeeMore in college, and I loved it when I tried it. Years later, I bought both the SeeMore and Newport 2.6 and went with the Newport because I liked the heavier feel.

Yes his last professional win was at the 2015 Open Championship. I would say that his performance declined dramatically after he signed a deal with another brand. I could be wrong though.

That just reminded me of him colouring in his old Titleist driver so that you couldn’t see the paintwork and the Titleist stamping after he signed with PXG.

Iirc he stated during an interview in the last year or two he’s longer off the tee thanks to pxg driver.

It is, I saw it up close at the 2021 WMPO in Scottsdale. It made me do a double take.
