I tried the Callaway program only to find the Rogue X's I was attempting to trade in didn't qualify for the extra 50%. Member Judge Smales pointed out that Global Golf is giving 50% extra also, however there does not appear to be restrictions (at this time). I'm trying to put my order in but their site has been down for maintenance, I hope they aren't changing trade in restrictions!

I disagree I used a Epic Flash tour issue last year way different than the retail in respect to numbers and I am a 12 handicap who hits it around 250. It all depends on the specs and your swing some will benefit like myself but some will hurt greatly from a tour head. All comes down to you swing but you can benefit from a tour head. Cor is a great example most of the retail heads are inconsistent in cor and loft.

Watching the PGA Tour live stream of Phil warming up and he's hitting the Epic Flash. Strange considering I just watched a commercial on the Golf Network 5 minutes ago with Phil bothering people talking about Mavrik tech.

they all look the same anymore, the tech is maxed IMO. I hit both the SIM and Mavrik finally, and both great but so has the past couple years drivers. Not sure which way I am going, almost tempted to get a nice tour issue m5 at this point. I do love the colors of the SIM.

For those that have hit the Mavrik drivers, is there a consensus on the pros/cons of the standard head vs. the Max? I was listening to the Fully Equipped podcast and they kind of mentioned that past models the "Max" model would be for the higher handicaps, that they've actually think quite a few better players/pros will be fit in the Max model. I hit the Max at the PGA store the other day but for whatever reason they didn't have the standard heads in yet.

OK......Before I look thru all the maverick threads……..I have an epic flash sz that I like. It is a fairway finder that goes as long as anything I can remember playing. Guys I play with always tell me how great it sounds and it sounds fine to me. So my question is, what will I gain by buying a maverick.

Hitting Mavrik standard 9⁰ +1⁰ today with Even Flow riptide 60g stiff was producing distance and forgivness I've never seen before. Should also be noted, I've never been able to hit driver well but I was hitting the ball 265y carry for 287 total, 151mph bs, 100-04mph ss, 2000 rpm spin. And straight! Can't wait!

Saw these and the SIM stuff at my fitter today. Imo the quality of the Callaway looks better. Address position is fantastic. Only downside is the Mavrik line of woods seems very upright.

I’ll definitely be trying the SZ version, head looks great. I used to have one of the Adams drivers mentioned by several people in this forum. I haven’t owned a Callaway driver in over 15years b/c of the hollow feel I get with them, but numbers are numbers, so I’d use it no mater what.

so are all of the drivers upright? or when you mentioned woods are you talking the fairway line? I am very curious on what model the LPGA and Sr. tour players will be using, I know last year there were a fair amount of players using the reg. EF.

Mavrik sz would have been a clear winner for me if callaway would address the toe strike left miss.

SZ put up some fantastic numbers. But I didn't hit anything off the map with the SIM. I hit a few that were struck toward the toe and they screamed left...like James robinson left...

Ordered SIM. Mavrik is very, very good though. Better numbers than SIM when centered.

I've seen some of this thrown around in a couple different threads, but I looked at photos, old posts, etc and wanted to put down my thoughts here to see if this all lines up.

From the Epic Flash tour heads we know the following:

1 diamond is mid launch with neutral flight - 460 head

2 diamond is low launch with slight fade bias - 460 head

3 diamond is mid launch with slight fade bias and slightly higher spin than other SZ heads - 450 head

From looking at the Mavrik standard and SZ heads in person, and from looking at the tour photos that have been posted for players with them in use already (Wise, Berger, Spaun, etc), I am seeing that the triple diamond Mavrik SZ head appears to have the more "traditional" look in that the rear flattens out and doesn't exhibit much if any of the Cyclone aero shaping. This makes sense as the triple diamond Mavrik is based off the triple diamond Epic Flash - seeing the Mavrik SZ in store a couple days ago reinforced that, and it definitely reminded me of the triple diamond EF with some small differences. I've seen posts on another site that the triple diamond Mavrik SZ will be a mid-year retail release similar to last year (triple diamond EF was in April I believe) - take that with a grain of salt I suppose.

The single diamond Mavrik SZ is the interesting one to me as based on looks it seems to be a standard Mavrik shape with the SZ setup. User Hedgehog posted that same thing in the JJ Spaun WITB thread and I think that's bang-on - whether that jives with the EF tour head diamond-designation and the characteristics of those heads remains to be seen, but I'm sure we'll find out more soon.

Enough rambling but just wanted to collect this information in one place. Welcome any thoughts/comments or if anyone has some more details on any of this. I really like the standard Mavrik head shape and am still debating if I want to go ahead and take advantage of the trade-in bonus that goes for another week. Based on reviews and LM data I think the SZ will be too low-spin for me like the EF SZ was last year, but the TD was released at the perfect time and I wonder if it's worth holding out again this year for the potential Mavrik SZ TD release. The standard Mavrik ticks a lot of those same boxes (shape, spin, look at address) as well as the improvement in sound; however, the standard Callaway heads from the last few iterations have tended to be slightly draw bias (probably related to lie which is 2 degrees more upright on standard Mavrik compared to SZ) which is why I've erred toward the SZ.

I wonder how comparable the Sub-Zero with the heavy weight in the back is to the Standard regarding spin and forgiveness. If they are pretty similar like I believe they have been in past models, then the difference would be the lie angle (SZ at 56* vs Standard at 58*) and the Standard having the Cyclone shape while the SZ doesn't really. I suppose the faces are also designed differently in each model. You can always make the SZ more upright, but you can't make the Standard flatter so I even though the Standard seems like a better fit on paper for me, I would gravitate toward the sub zero with the weight back.

I've gamed Rogue Sub Zero for a couple years now, and went and hit the Mavrik SZ last night. I haven't been playing at all and have only hit a few buckets here and there in the past couple months, so my swing is likely off, but I wasn't all that impressed to be honest. I went in wanting to buy the Mavrik, but it was actually spinning about 600 rpms more than my Rogue with similar launch and ball speed. I just put a Ventus Black in my Rogue and it's a low spin beast - was in the 1900-2000 range with the Rogue and 2500-2700 range with Mavrik. I didn't have time to swing the standard Mavrik or the Max. I will say the sound and feel of the Mavrik are way better than the Epic Flash, but I didn't upgrade last year because the numbers were only modestly different than my Rogue and I hated the sound.

I also hit the Taylor Made SIM(but just with a stock Hzrdous Green 6.5) and liked it much more than the Mavrik, both from a looks and performance perspective. I will say the feel and sound of the Mavrik and SIM were much more similar than in years past with the two different brands. Have been a Callaway guy for a long time, but color me unimpressed. If I do upgrade this year, it'll likely be a Taylor Made or maybe Mizuno or Cobra once I try those and get to hit them outdoors.

Thank you for the detailed response! I was asking about the Rogue White shaft, and I should have used my words better?. Great feedback though, and much appreciated!

I am taking a gamble on the Mavrik Max with the Rogue White. Jumping from the Fusion to the Max will be interesting.
