Heading To Kiawah Resort

Recommended Posts

Hey guys our crew has decided to stay at Kiawha resort, and will be playing the ocean course for sure.

Should we just stay there and play the other 4 courses or should we skip any of them and go play somewhere else close that is a must play in the area.

In order, what would be the best of the other four courses? Turltle, Oak, Osprey and Cougar.

Fly into Charleston? Rent a car?

Thanks folks!

I booked both the Kiawah and Sea Pines special packages for 3rd week of Feb. Based on lots of research and feedback, I am staying at the resorts as part of the package and I am just playing the courses at the resorts.

Flying to Charleston and staying there 1 night to enjoy it; then down to Sea Island for a few days, then back to Kiawah for the rest of the days. At least 7 rounds booked! :) May do more if I feel good.

At Kiawah, I have Osprey, Atlantic Dunes and then Ocean course.

All of the Kiawah courses are great conditioning and good courses. Top level resort experience. Getting to the island is a bit of a hike and once there, leaving is sort of a pain. Unless you have access to any of the privates in the area I personally would just stay on the island. The resort shuttles you around and (aside from the private courses in the area), I don’t think there is anything in proximity worth leaving for.

Use search feature to find 500 other threads debating which course at Kiawah poeple like .

Fly to charleston international- rent car. Kiawah is out there, Uber not always available (may not even be allowed on island)

I liked ocean, osprey, cougar, oak, and turtle last. Love stono ferry. If you're going to hike all the way out to wild dunes (1hr+ each way) then might try 36 with Chas Natty, but not likely unless it's summer for longer days.

Def rent a car...stay on island for the most part. Also, and I say this alot...book through Kiawah. Condo/hotel and all rounds. You get a significant discount, something like $100 off. Replay rate is $90 for all course except ocean and that's ,$150 I think.

All the courses are nice, all have been redone in Paspalum, all immaculate condition, great service at all. I was most surprised by condition and new clubhouse at cougar. It used to be the crappier course on island. Ocean is special. Worth playing twice.

Cassique will let you on. At a premium. I think it was $500 or something like that, plus caddie, plus a pro ($150) to play with if you aren't a 4. It was like $795 all in...at least that was the non-accompanied guest rate my pro.got me. But in May. After 1 pm as well.

great itinerary. If money isn’t a huge issue keep it as is. If you want to save a little then I would do the ocean on the 36 hole day for the replay rate.

I wouldn’t change a thing. If you can get on cassique (or river for that matter) it’s worth it. If not, just add a round at the ocean or possibly take a look at oak (good course. Probably not a great value by any means but it is fun).

Forever Changing at this point.......

I'm there several times a year. My best friend lives there. I have played all those courses twenty times over. Just stay on the island. It is a hassle and a bit of a hike to drive back and forth or go looking for anything else. Charleston is fun and pretty cool but like I said, I've been there twenty times in the past five years so I don't go near downtown Charleston anymore.

Last time I was there in Oct I played Osprey. It is decent, they all are. Not overly hard but nice. If you play from the White tees, you won't need a driver at all. It's a placement course. Typical resort course. Over priced. I get on for 50 bucks but they charge 250. It's not worth that.

Love the area and you will enjoy it. It's quite and very scenic by the ocean. Ocean course is great. Ocean Views are awesome but again, a bit pricey and uppity for my taste.

was there in April, played two rounds at Ocean Course, 1 at cougar, 2 at osprey, 1 at Turtle and one on Johns island (can't remember the name of it now)

Ocean was best worth playing twiceThought Cougar was second and Osprey 3rd, but there is not a whole lot of difference4th was the one on John's islandand 5th was Turtle, probably my least favorite Nicklaus course ever, seemed like it was just built to sell condos. The only course I thought that was worth the travel was Ocean. The others were nice, just not worth traveling for. If flying into Charleston, if you didn't mind a hike, could drive to True Blue and Caledonia Fish and Golf club for 36 holes, they are worth the hike.

for all those that are making the trip soon, please post some photos and stories. I had to cancel my trip (in 3 weeks) due to a delightful lady who felt compelled to text and speed on a one lane road and total my vehicle in turn thoroughly injuring my back making walking currently an incredible challenge!!

You better read up on the mandatory 14 day quarantine for all visitors to to Hawaii that is still in effect. No guarantee that it will be lifted before you go.

Well I'm guessing the OP's trip got canceled so maybe he wont mind if I highjack his thread.

I'm heading down to Myrtle Beach end of June and was wondering what were the chances I could head over to Kiawah and play the Ocean course. I would be just a single. But don't know how realistic it is to try and play this course when you are not staying on the property and just a single?

Any locals know if I could just call the week of and try and get on?

Thanks

You can book a time through their website. They'll put you with another group to fill a foursome. Or it could be kind of quiet. Less tourists more locals....

Thanks for the info.

According to there web site they are temporarily suspended online tee times. So I wasn't able to check and see if there were available tee times on the day I wanted to play.

But, it sounds like you don't think it will be too hard to get a tee time. So I'll probably just wait till the week before I'm down there and call to make a tee time.

Thanks

I noticed places have suspended the online booking for phone calls and handling the tee sheets manually. I hope you get on the course, love to hear your experience.
