Honestly though, I think he would have somewhat of a difficult time getting someone to staff him just because of the way he blows up on the course.

Sergio obviously has temper problems (which have seen him embarrass himself multiple times recently), and has struggled with confidence and belief over the years but in person he is a great guy - warm, friendly, honest, and kind.

He's also one of the greatest ball strikers the game has ever seen with his irons, one of the very top match players (all time highest Ryder Cup points of anyone, ever) and if he'd been a hot putter then his major tally would have been ahead of any other recent European great.

I quite like the fact that he generates a lot of online hate. He's a real person, rather than the generic, media-trained robo-pros which make up 95% of the golf world. As a golfer, on his day, he is sublime.

I'd love to see him sign for, or just play, Ping equipment.

I am not overlooking anything, and nothing was directed at you, just seems a lot of people like to pile on him. Has he made some mistakes, poor decisions? Yes.

He is also a human that does a lot of good things that far outweigh his handful of tantrums.

Sergio is a top player and has been for over 20 years. Be interesting to see how he gets on with Ping clubs in the bag. Potentially a good move for him as it would let him use whatever ball he wants.

There are no excuses for some of Sergio's past behavior. He's clearly got some issues managing his emotions.

To your point however, when I was on the Taylormade TwistFace Kingdom trip, the club builders and marketing guys had nothing but high praise for Sergio. They loved working with him and claimed he was the nicest, sweetest guy, super easy going as well as easy to work with.

Free agent, playing the best clubs for his game. What's wrong with this? Wasn't there just an article the other day saying the days of these big full bag club deals are on the decline? Plus, it's a win for Callaway too as they can clear more cap space for players who will actually be good for their brand. Does Callaway want their name associated with some of his behaviors?

As far as him going Ping, I thought I heard Ping requires staffers to use their putters. I can't tell but does he have a Ping putter in the bag yet?

I've always been impressed by how quickly Sergio is able to successfully put into play the latest clubs from his current OEM. Given how picky some players are this must be a dream for the companies concerned.

They used to demand putter use, but it doesn't seem to be a deal breaker any more. Tony Finau uses a Piretti putter, and has done since signing with Ping.

Pretty much what they said at TM. Very easy guy to work with and not neurotically picky. He knew what he liked, they'd build a set to his specs, and he'd be good to go.

Golf on the course may just get the best of this guy. Off the course it sounds like he's a good dude. W/ the competitive switch flipped, he's got a few loose connections on the grass.

He has a ping putter however he’s not a ping staffer. He reached out them for clubs.m and they obliged. He has a sim fw in the bag as well.

ping has changed their deals and fro what I heard the size of the deal is dependent on what bag setup a player signs.

I think Tony is the only exception as he had a deal with Piretti before signing with ping.
