TPC Myrtle Beach condition 2020

Just booked four rounds for a buddies trip to Myrtle in February, TPC among them. One of our group heard from a business contact that TPC isn’t in great shape. Obviously Instagram makes it look 10/10. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in between, but I’m curious if anyone has played it recently so I can tell my buddy we’re sticking with it or look somewhere different. Has anyone played there recently? Thoughts? Appreciate any comments. I’ll report back on the trip in a couple months. Thanks!

Played in October and it is in ok shape was not impressed.

TPC has been in good condition in 2019. Unless the bad condition report is recent, it may be from the 2018 winter freeze issue.

If the guy played it during overseed in Nov, it would have been sloppy, but that is grown in now.

Thanks Art and Woods. I punted on this to the other guy, with a few other options like the MB national courses and World Tour, closer to where we’re staying.

Getting my Caledonia fix and playing True Blue for the first time, so everything else is gravy. Heard good things about the third course we’re playing - wild wing avocet. Hoping for a mild February there.

At MBN, Kings North is the best of their 3 courses and IMO one of the best + fun courses in MB.

I played TPC last week and Caledonia the week before. TPC is in great shape. Caledonia not so much. If I was staying on 501, I would play Arrowhead before Wild win* or World Tour.

Played TPC back in the summer and it was just ok. Not what you would think from a TPC course. Never played Caledonia in the winter but usually they keep everything on the up and up. Arrowhead is nice mainly due to some cool holes on the waterway. The rest thread through homes and condos. Course condition is usually always nice. I like wild wing just because it is a unique course compared to a lot of others in MB.

Going down in March. My uncle lives on Heritage and still one of my favorite courses. I played World Tour last year and thought it was a bit cheesey. Maybe I had too big of expectations.

World Tour could be a let down if you expect something other then replica. If you go into it that way you will come out happier.

Kings North is a awesome course that normally has great conditions. It is a course i could play over and over.

We usually do March trips but I highly recommend MBN North. It's got a cool layout with some fun holes. I wasn't impressed with world tour just kind of a gimmick more than anything. We also had some bad luck at the Legends courses with the greens. 2018 was a tough year for a lot of courses down there but most have come back nicely. If you want to find pretty cheap tee times teeuptomorrow.com usually has the best deals but they only book out 24-48 hours in advance.

I've played World Tour a couple of times and enjoyed it, but I wholeheartedly agree that if you expect to play the exact holes from Augusta or Pebble or whatever, you're probably going to be disappointed. For me it is more of an 'inspired by' those courses...kind of like a movie based on a book. In most cases I like the book better, but I can still enjoy the movie experience. Just my 0.01.

Following up on my original post way after the fact. All the courses were in good shape. But wild wing was the surprise package. Loved the layout and the greens were lightning. Would encourage anyone looking for something new or different in MB to play there. Fantastic spot

That's good.    For Myrtle and any resort,  a buddy of a buddy might have seen the conditions months previously or doesn't know the difference between aerated greens or badly maintained greens.   Also someone may run into a wet recently overseeded course in Oct/Nov, and that has nothing to do with a couple months later, when the overseed is good and green, while there is snow up north.

Glad you enjoyed Wild Wing.  Slightly puzzled by "new and different."  Avocet has been there since 1993 and was one of 4 18 hole courses on site.  Conditions are generally very good and there are a number of interesting holes.  The par 4 6th which shares a green with number 17 is a challenging hole. The par 4 14th is one of my favorite holes at the beach.  Again, glad you had a good trip.

Played TPC Myrtle Beach last Wednesday and course was in excellent shape. Greens were rolling 12. Also played Dunes Club which was great and greens as quick or slightly quicker than TPC. Think these are the best courses in MB.
