2020 Titleist T100-S Iron in hand pics

Nobody in their right mind buys a set of irons that doesn't suite their game, except maybe for Club ho's. "Yes", it's their own fault. OEM's do not have the responsibility for what a consumer chooses to buy or their frustration. To even suggest otherwise is ludicrous.

Any person that purchased T100 or in my case 620MB/CB's, had the opportunity before purchase to review club specs on Titleist website and decide if the specs are satisfactory. It's the purchasers responsibility, NOT the company. In my case, traditional specs were my choice. Mostly because I hit my 7i as far as other hit their jacked 6i. Isn't it like buying a car with a 6cy engine and later the manufacturer comes out with an 8cy. Nobody expects the manufacture to trade-out cars. Better golfers know if we want stronger lofts we order irons though Titleist custom dept and have them increase loft or take them to a known builder for adjustment. That's the way it's been since I took up golf. If, however, a better golfer wasn't aware I, for one, would suspect of his better golfer claim.

I don't call stating a difference of opinion - an argument.

People are sour because if the T100s had been released at the same time as the T100 they would have bought the T100s. You think Titleist knew that when they came up with the marketing/sales calendar? Of course they did. Same thing happened with the TS1 & TS4. It's sketchy, but they're trying to sell as many drivers as possible. If you don't like it, don't buy something when it first comes out. No OEM shows their entire hand, there shouldn't be any surprise. Everyone who bought the G400 had a nice little surprise months after. Yet here we are, still giving them business.

Titleist T100S irons provide a distance option for better players - Golf Digest

Titleist’s T100S irons serve as proof that the company is quickly catching on to the players distance iron category. After eschewing the category initially, the company found success with its 718 AP3 iron then neatly followed it up with the recently released T200. Feedback, however, was that while the added distance was welcomed by many, a segment of players wanted that distance boost in a slightly more player-ish package such as the T100.

“That would have been fairly easy to do just by strengthening the lofts on the T100,” said Marni Ines, Titleist’s director of iron development. “But that wouldn’t have stayed true to what we want in an iron which is shape, feel, turf interaction and control along with more ball speed.”

As such, the forged dual-cavity design T100S is a reimagining of the T100. Yes, the lofts are stronger by 2 degrees, but each iron in the set was redesigned with thinner faces. As with the T100, a hefty amount of tungsten (an average of 66 grams) if co-forged into the heel and toe areas of the long and mid irons to boost forgiveness and foster a higher launch. Attention also was paid to the sole of the club with an enhanced camber for improved turf interaction. As you would expect in a players shape, the topline is on the thin side and offset is minimal. The set features progressive blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths with the goal of delivering the optimal center-of-gravity positioning for each iron.

I've had my T100's for a few weeks and I don't feel as though I've missed out on anything. In fact, the more traditional lofts of the T100's is why I bought them in the first place so I'm glad they've done things this way around rather than releasing the T100s' first. I was coming from Titleist 755 irons, which are 1 degree weaker than the T100's across the board. I didn't need/want to gain extra distance through both stronger loft and more modern club construction, so stronger lofted irons like the MP20 MMC's or Z785's were never serious contenders. I'm also not good enough to think about Z Forged or MP20's or the like too seriously (well I did but I'm also realistic about my own inabilities).

There’s been a recent track record from the OEM’s for this type of release. As mentioned before Ping started it (along with the now “max” craze with every oem having to have a Max release now to compete with Ping forgiveness) with the G400 and then Mizuno threw in the JPX hot metal pro with less offset and upsetting 919 forged owners who purchased 6 months earlier .

Sure a part of it is probably ego but anytime you can hit a shorter club into a green should increase accuracy. Now may be tougher to hold green with stronger lofts. Think that what many people deal with. Why some of the super strong lofted irons like Epic Forged or PXG 0311 XP have ton of weighting in bottom of the club.

It isn't really a shorter club though...that 9-iron has the loft of an 8, or even a 7. I have seen 21º 5-irons and 28º 5-irons.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with strong lofted golf clubs, because there isn't. I am just trying to put it in some context. Sets used to be comprised of 4-PW, but I don't know many amateurs today that can hit a 21º 5-iron, let alone an 18.5º 4-iron. Heck, the 6-iron at 24º might be too much for most amateurs. So, what will future sets be comprised of? 6-PW, 7-PW, not to mention all the added wedges. Now one will need an AW, to fit between the PW and GW.

Again, absolutely nothing wrong with strong lofted irons, but it does require some thought about what to bag.

I have been begging for this move for a long time. The 620mb/cb and the T100 is practically for the same player. You need speed to make those work. There is a huge market for single digit that need a players look but a bit strong loft and ball speed. Carry distance maybe more important that spin for that player. There is a huge gap between T100 and T200 in loft, looks, offset, blade length so much I didn't even consider Titleist for the last few years due to this gap. Either two small and spinny or too big and offset. That market is all playing Apex or Z765 or P790 and that is a big market. Hopefully this new version solves that and is the best of both worlds. We shall see!
