Hacks To Get Into Private Clubs?

FWIW, I can log in with no problems. I have a comp account but this is probably the first time I've logged on in 2-3 years. No problem however. It tells me that I have a score of 712. Interesting as I have no idea what that means. To my knowledge I've used it exactly once (last minute thing where I didn't want to bother one of the pros at the clubs I belong to).

My success has been limited in my short golf life but I read a book by a guy who played the top 100 courses and he shared some interesting tactics. One involved looking up business associates he would meet on GHIN to see their handicap and registered course. He was a successful wall street guy so I imagine it was easier for him to google random people he would meet and find that they were members at Merion or Shinecock . Clever idea though. Ive stalked some people I know successfully this way.

According to the book, the key is to never ever ask. Talk about golf, show them how much you love it, but don't imply that you know where they're a member or that your'e desperate to get on. It sounds like if you're pleasant to play with and get on a really exclusive course, you can leverage that one experience into a few more private invites. That's what he did. For a few courses he had to literally wait outside on the street and ask people as they pulled up. He helped a member change his tire one time, for example.

I'm a member at a private club (not a top tier one, mind you, but nonetheless), and I have to say that trick would probably work on me. If I thought you'd be fun to play with, and you made me interested in getting to know you more, there's a good chance I'd invite you out to play my course.

Expensive but you can check out Charity Buzz. They auction off accompanied 3somes at top club occasionally. Right now they have Oakmont and Oak Hill. The money goes to charity so the cost is easier to swallow.

My local golf association (NCGA) has member outings at some of the local private clubs in NorCal. Usually on Mondays. The cost is usually between $130 and $190 depending on how flossy the golf course is.
