I use Mineral Spirit and Flat Skewer to remove grips, which works great..

You just have to figure out a way to get the Mineral Spirit inside between the grip and the shaft..

I watched a vid with a clothes hanger. Shove it in there and pour. Will try in a little.

grip must be pretty tight..

Usually mineral spirit will break down the tape and lubricate the grip..  Should slide out easily.. make sure that the grip and the shaft is also room temperature..  Cold grip will be stiff..

Hanger would be too thick and too flexible..  You need something more stiff and flatter..

anyone not using air at this point to put grips on is in the ice ages.  Air a little solvent over the butt end slide the grip on and blow it on the rest of the way.  No double sided tape.  Saves soooo much money and anytime you want the grip off it comes off in a split second.  I will never go back to grip solvent and double sided taper everrrrrrr.  I actually get legit mad now when i go to blow a grip off and someone before me used double sided tape.  It literally does nothing.

This problem has been cropping up again for me.  I got new tape and new spirit and the grips are starting to get stuck as I slide them on.

I have come to the conclusion some ingredient has changed in the tape which is not official grip tape but generic double sided I have been using from the hardware store  or the solvent ingredients are more diluted or the rubber on the grips is old.  I use 5 layers of tape.  Been doing that for 15 years.

I am using Golf Pride tour Velvet full cord round.   Again been using those for 15 years.  All using the same brand of tape which is made by Scapa.  The reason I use that brand is its very lightweight and I can build up the layers without it messing up swingweight much. Been using it no problem since 2007.

Do you think its possible the rubber is old and less expandable?

I am at a loss as to whats going on.  I am using lots and lots of spirits in the grip and on the shaft. I got it on but it was a struggle

The problem is likely the tape.  The manufacturers likely changed their supplier or what they use to make the adhesive.   There is no substitute for good grip tape.  Don't buy the cheap stuff.  This is what I use and have used for decades.  You will never have a grip tape problem again.

Years ago i used to regrip my clubs alot.  I stepped away from the game for a while, but am back. Recently  I tried to regrip some clubs I'm building and had the exact same problem as the OP.  First grip got stuck halfway.  I've never had that happen before.  I'm using tape/solvent and a vise for the installation.

I ended up buying one of these gizmos, and the rest of the grips went on fine.
