Outside of Strokes Gained Putting, where he was 4th in the field,, his numbers at the WGC were worse than usual.

Well, from 2015 to 2018, Spieth was never worse than 50th in Strokes Gained Off the Tee. And he averaged 101st in driving accuracy over those 4 years. While that's not great, it's night and day compared to where he is now.

Amazing isn’t it? No matter how many times his stats have been posted folks continue to post the drivel that he could only putt. His ball stroking striking was elite for a few years. Now? Not so much.

Folks here seem to knowingly and willingly ignore data and statistics when it doesn't align with their opinions. Most TV announcers seem to be in the same boat

His Strokes Gained Tee to Green ranking from 2013 to 2018 was 7th, 38th, 4th, 24th, 2nd, and 23rd.

In 2019, it fell to 157th and in 2020 it currently stands at 161st.

Well, that was because he thought his ball striking was good enough. No pressure. He swings away off the tee, and enough of his results are good enough that he doesn't worry about them.

Then, at some point, he decided that he needed to be longer and straighter off the tee. He starts to tinker with his swing. And then it all goes south.

Ha! And it continues. Top 10 in SG tee to green is just “ good enough” ? He was elite. Period. And then yes, it goes south. Because of an ill advised swing change? Or mono? Or marriage? All have been submitted as reasons.

His own high expectations led him to get better off the tee, and as so often happens in golf, it backfired.

That kind of plummet in ball-striking is bordering on Driver and/or full-swing yips. They happen. They come and they go for some guys, but they are real.

Brendon Todd actually credits Bradley Hughes with helping him get rid of the driver yips. Back in the Fall, he won 2 tournaments in a row followed by a 4th and T3. And while he is only 165th in Strokes Gained Off The Tee, he is 6th in driving accuracy.
