Ping G425 closer than we think? (In hand Pics Pg. 16)

Looks good.  I like the idea of making it even more stealthy with minimal color accents, although their driver soleplates have always been nice to me.  Reminds me of the Anser driver that was al black with white lettering.

My G400 Max has yet to be de-throned, but I am digging these more and more.

Same here, the G410 Plus, SIM MAX, Mavrik MAX and Speedzone Extreme were not able to kick the G400 MAX out the bag.  But I am willing to give this new G425MAX a try to dethrone the king.

I'm playing a 2014 Cobra BioCell driver and have struggled to kick it out of the bag.  IMO these G410 and G425 "upgrades" are going to be very small when compared to the G400 Max which was already a top performer.

The G410 Plus had more adjustability but that's about it.  The logic also seems to be that when you put the G410 weight into either the draw or fade position MOI takes a pretty big hit.  So folks should probably leave it center if they can work on their swing.  Now we see the G425 and it appears to have minimum movement in the rear weight.  It's almost like we're back to G400 anyways, at least if you're good with the weight in the center (and highest MOI).

This may have already been mentioned, but apparently this will be seeded on the Japanese LPGA Tour first with an Asian market released expected before North America. It's not supposed to be released in the US until early 2021. This was mentioned by Jonathan Wall on the Fully Equipped podcast.

Tough decisions here folks.

Love my SIM after coming from the g400 lst, however, G425 LST has my ears perked up for that little bit of extra forgiveness if ball speeds are similar. Potentially expensive dilemma ahead.

Hahahaha EXACTLY.  I hate buying something new so late in the season, plus with all the new stuff delayed until who knows when, it could get expensive really quick.

I apologize if the translation isn’t 100% I am fortunate to have a Japanese wife, but since her stroke some of her assistance in interpretation has changed a little but this pretty much says these are a shaft for everyone there’s a red and there’s a blue

The Alta J CB was a stock shaft available on the G410 and is listed on the Ping Japan website. It looks like a 45g Alta and I would not expect that to be available in the USA. Japan's shaft offerings on the G410 are pretty different than the USA. The Tensei Orange was available but that was the only similarity I recall seeing.

Be sure to tip that setup a few inches, if not it'll spin off the planet.

Any idea if adaptor stays the same from G410?

What did it do to swing weight Stetson

I put in a 43.5” shaft, so it plays at 44.75”. Thus the extra weight was great to get it to the D3 range. It feels just a touch more solid with the additional weight out there. Might not be the case but feels like the hot spot is touch hotter.

Makes sense, had to add hot melt to G25 when cut an inch off, cause SW went to C7

It is bad enough that they aren't launching this in the USA for several months. It would be a horrible business decision if they changed the adapter 2 releases in a row. I think it is pretty safe to say the adapter will be the same.

I have some very undude questions to ask, but I have recently come to focus on nothing other than MOI as I want to live in the fairway. With that:

1) Ping website says the combined MOI of G400 MAX, apparently they most forgiving driver ever, is over 9,900. Is there a USGA limit to MOI like there is for size and COR?

2) If there is room to improve, do you guys think the MOI of G425 Max will beat G400 max? If so I will order site unseen.

3) It looks amazing. I know, not a question.

I may be late to the party, but it seems like the best way to be in fairway is to max out the forgiveness in the head (including a higher loft, like 10.5 instead of 9), combined with maxing out the stability of the shaft (low launch, low spin, tip stiff).

So long story short, if this has higher MOI than G400 Max, I will buy. If not, I stick with G400 Max.

Out of curiosity, what is MOI of SIM Max? Can’t find on interweb.

No Founders Clubs Bobby?  Ok so try this from a guy who had the 400, traded for the 410, loved it, but wanted to try another brand that advertised as better than 410, used 410 that had high trade for that! Ended up going back to Ping 400 because it was basically given away due to a sad situation. Was excited to hit it again, but because I had slipped the 410 between getting the 400 back,  it did not feel as nice or as long as the 410. Now I know there’s some will say 400 is longer more forgiving, but for me 410 standard plus 10.5 version was better fit. With that said instead of wringing hands over this, try putting the 425 3 wood in the bag. I say that cause other day I was hitting my 410 3 wood on range and the driver was working to keep up with the distance and accuracy. You’ll have 425, and you can replace a beat up fairway wood, then you can ease in to 425 driver if the FW wood can show you something.....yeah I know shorter shafts, thus why I choke up on all my clubs instead cutting, for me works as well, keeps clubs standard setup, easier to trade.

Okay, I think I answered at least part of my own question. From Rule 4(b)(1) of the USGA Equipment rules: When the club is in a 60 degree lie angle, the moment of inertia component around the vertical axis through the clubhead’s centre of gravity must not exceed 5900 g cm2 (32.259 oz in2), plus a test tolerance of 100 g cm2 (0.547 oz in2).

But that raises another: why, then, does Ping say the G400 Max achieves a "combined MOI over 9,900"? What is a combined MOI?

Don't want to derail the thread with definitions of MOI. All I really want to know is if G425 Max is going to have a greater MOI than G400 Max, or if G400 Max was already "maxed" out for MOI? Maybe it's not that simple...

Vertical and Horizontal axis. I don't believe that the USGA/R&A tests horizontal axis.

The G400 Max has an MOI of 5700 as measured by the USGA.  Thus there is still room (not much) for improvement on MOI.  That being said if the G425 matches that MOI while maintaining faster ball speeds or lower spin further from the center of the face than it would still be an improvement over the G400 Max.  That being said I have no clue if they are attempting to surpass that 5700 number in the new model but if they get close to while keeping spin in check on low and heel contact than I think many will sell the 400 to get the 425.  OR ... if they simply make it sound better without requiring owners to hot melt it.
