Ping G425 closer than we think? (In hand Pics Pg. 16)

It’s weird that the ping website has the rogue white 70 listed as a driver shaft but says the weights are 69/71 grams in stiff/xstiff. Those are neither the weights aldila lists in either the 60 or 70 gram options. According to the aldila site The 60 is 66/68 and the 70 is 73/76

I believe PING always states cut weight. At least they do for irons, check it out.

I really want to try the G425Max with a Ventus shaft. High(est?) MOI driver with high MOI shaft for a fairway finding high MOI beast.

I looked at the Ping website and could find very little Ventus shaft usage amongst their PGA tour pros. Andrew Landry was one that used Ventus. Is there a point where there is too much MOI or is it simply that Ping doesn’t work closely with Fujikura?

Edit, I see Nate Lashley and Michael Thompson also use Ventus. Adoption still seems a little on the low side

Just wondering if you asked for any tip trim instructions? I have a g410 5w with the EF black 85 and it feels like a noodle - probably not tipped. Ping, I believe but don't quote me, don't tip any of their shafts (there's a thread on the G410 hybrid with the Tensei that feels soft). Further to that I have a G410 4H and Ts 4H both in the Tensei Pro blue 85 and they feel different - Ts much stiffer.

No tipping specified. I would opine that the 80 in the FW feels a little stiffer than the 70 in the driver.

I have the EF Black 85 in a G410 hybrid and it feels quite stable.

I'd be confident the 80 is tipped in the G425 fw. It is extremely stable.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict the G425 Max fairway will become cult for Ping. I had some quality time with it on course today and the thing is a cannon which isn't something often used to describe Ping FW's. That cup face has brought the line alive. I hit some balls farther than i would have ever expected off the tee box today and it is a dream off the deck. Some may complain about the sound/feel but i'm hard pressed to think of a description.   It is certainly explosive on good hits and you know you've crushed it. Off the tee i have been scuffing up the grass a bit and hitting off that. Works perfectly for me with the shallow face. Mishits get out there too. It's going in the bag and i have some seriously good (older) fairways in the mix.

Hit the hybrid today.  Indoor but with good balls.  Looks great - feels/sounds terrible.  Very disappointed.

TBH I think the 425 line is going to be spectacular with hot melt in it, at least I’m banking on it.

The 410 was the best hybrid I had and was hoping for a bit lower spin, but if this is the case, I will be looking to go back to it ASAP unless it’s just a case of the hybrid needing a bit of hot melt to firm up the hollowness, similarly to the 410 fairways had needed.

Curious on your subjective feel/sound 425 thoughts.

I've actually already hotmelted a 425 for a WRX'er  in my shop.  Sound is MUCH improved.  I spoke to someone inside Ping and they are usually pretty modest with performance claims but he was pretty darn excited, especially about the LST.

Rory and JT both testing it as well, not sure if it's in the bag or not.

Curious how much did you add? I asked Ping for 6g, assuming that would do the trick sound and SW-wise

Added 8g if i remember correctly.  Rear weights are already available on ebay and such which is nice for builds.

I found it to be very firm with a “tingy”/metallic sound.  Reminded me of the G25 driver.  To be clear, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Ping to return to a more traditional crown and was excited to try them.  I’ll try again once it warms up and the outdoor demo days start but first impression was not good.

That is very disappointing, feel and sound were terrible compared to the previous version?

I haven’t owned any Ping woods/hybrids since they went the turbulator route.  I did own, and very much liked, G25 and Anser hybrids.  I tried the Alta shaft, a graphite shaft I can’t remember, and a Modus 105 (I’m in Japan at the moment and Modus is a stock option).  Of the three, the Modus felt best but they were all disappointing.

I ordered all the woods and hybrid blind.  Well I have all the 410s so kind of blind.  You will notice ping sound indoors especially.  Outside with a good ball sounds better.  Hot melt will help but it only will help so much.  Cant change the DNA that much...will chime in once I receive my order....btw i have the tensei pro white 100TX in my 410 hybrid and it is awesome.  So solid.  Going to try the ventus black 10x soon.  And the stock rogue 95tx in the ping...130msi 70/80x in the woods.

I just got invited to a Golf Galaxy fitting event for the 425's Jan 15-17. I'm guessing others will get the same mail invite. I'm going to pass because I'm happy with my 410 driver and FW. Looking forward to the reviews from the guys who go though.

I gave the 410 hybrid a shot on a whim and knew it was going to sound kind of metallic but was actually pretty surprised how much I ended up liking the sound and feel. Of course, the fact that it just pops up in the air and goes 200 every time probably helps.

I had a Ventus Blue 6X in my G410 Plus and it wasn't a great combo. Somehow the Ventus didn't handle the extra headweight that well, even had my preferred swingweight and even tried tipping the Ventus to see if it helped, didn't do it for me.

I preferred the Tour 65X over the Ventus.

That if they are going for a shorter build, just chucking in hotmelt could mess with a lot of peoples swingweights.. I haven't picked a shaft properly for my G425 just using one I traded for.. But think small minus with RDX Blue 60g hopefully 45.5" with a touch of melt to D4.. LST is a bomber think Ping will shock again lower spin, top speed and even more stability 🙂

Not sure what you were hitting but I was hitting absolute piss missiles with the 19 degree. Hi low I could do whatever I wanted with it. Tested with stock tensei pro orange and my gost shaft. Was an instant order. Driver fairway and hybrid all spectacular

Try the black, it is a different animal. I did not get along with the blue either, especially with a heavier head. My feel and timing were terrible. I had an extra 6-8g in each of my G410 heads, and the black performed MUCH better. Play them all 1/2-1" short and swingweight and feel are spot on. The tip is ultra stiff as well to handle the heavier head better.

Loved the performance of the 410 just could not get over sound and feel. I had 5 grams of hotmelt added and was instantly happy with all aspects. So, not surprising everyone is saying get hotmelt in the 425 as well.

I got my hands on a head today. Head is 201.3 grams without the adaptor. With a tour ad VR 6 @ 44.5 it’s D1 so I have a couple of grams that I can add to get it back to D4. Haven’t had a chance to hit it yet and the weather doesn’t look promising.

I thought I read earlier in the thread that their shaft played longer in the G425 than their previous heads. Mine does not. Played 44.5 in G400 Max with 1.5” bbgm. It is the exact same in the G425 after switching adaptors.
